Hi guys,

First time poster here at SSM (thanks for the ref, dirtydave) and wow! Your scanned model section is INCREDIBLE!

I am here because right now, at the RPF, we are studying the backpack and cannon from the movie, Predator which has dozens of model pieces on it, many from Tamiya 1:35 scale tanks. Our members (probably many of whom are members here as well) have identified a ton of the parts but we have run into a bit of a wall trying to ID the remaining parts.

I was hoping you might be willing to take a quick look at the photos we have uploaded and see if you are able to help us identify any of the remaining parts.

We have two threads going, one for the cannon, and one for the backpack.

http://www.therpf.com/f11/predator-plasm...ed-146918/

If you aren't a member of the RPF already, you are welcome to sign up, but the purpose of this post isn't to get you to become a member of our site, so you are more than welcome to just respond here in this thread if you do see any parts that you can ID.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and information and thanks for being a great resource!

I'm working on a spaceship model for a low-budget film. I'm looking for fuselage halves for a Revell/Monogram 1/48 scale B-17F and B-17G. These are two different molds so the details are different. I already have one of each and I need to get one more of each.

If you have these kits for studio-scale use, it is very likely the fuselage halves aren't needed. Or, if you have a started kit or junker, that might work as well.
Please let me know if you can help!

Well here we go then. This little build has plenty of part's that i find myself looking for. The publics maps are simply awesome as so much of this beast has already been ID. Thanks to all that contributed to those maps, without em i wouldn't have ever contemplated trying to build one.
I find the more i know the worse i am with wanting to find the part's that pop up as not having ID's yet. Already i'm at the point where i don't want to proceed with areas as i need to find things before laying down what i do know.

It gets frustrating at times as i'm sure you all know.

Anyway, thought it was worth a try throwing these out there to see if anyone has spotted em and can help.

I got hold of a fibre glass Judge's helmet and a resin Law Giver.
The helmet came with a gold chromed respirator plate.
I painted it using car paints which allowed me to polish it to a mirror like finish.
The Law Giver was a one piece resin cast.
The mold had seen better days, the barrel was warped and way off a true cross section, so I replaced it with a piece of metal pipe.
I also modified the ammunition selector so it was moveable.
The ribbing along the sides of the rear sight were riddled with air bubbles so I removed them and filled and sanded it all smooth.
I was then stuck with how to replace them when my wife pointed out that they looked like cable ties!
Quick trip to the local hard ware store and the problem was solved.
I got hold of a Tiger Joe tank for the wheels and tracks.
I made a balsa wood body and then made a mold, using plaster of paris bandages.
Into this I slush casth polyurethane resin.
I was able to source most of the kit bashed parts, though a few were impossible to obtain so I scratch built those.
The chasis is made of perspex with suspension springs made from old junior hacksaw blades.
The crew are converted from Star Wars figures, which appear to be about the correct scale.

1/15 scale Landspeeder with Luke

This was a fun little project. A seller on ebay named darksidemodels, from Spain, sells painted and kit forms of a landspeeder in 1/15 scale-ish. I thought the painting on the painted version looked nice, so I bought one.

Then when I got it, I noticed many differences between the graphic paint job and the actual model and full scale prop from the movie. So I ended up spot repainting the model with some help with accurate color mixing info from the seller. The paints were tamiya and were mixes of 3-4 colors. One of the inaccurate areas was the big round dark red-brown arc on the top in front. Although better, mine still seems a bit off. It needs to be rounder.

It also had a normal steering wheel placed on the left side. So I made a steering wheel more like an aircraft wheel used on the full sized prop and put it on the correct right side.

The rear center engine vane was also too thick, so that was cut down and sanded and repainted.

Then when I was working on it I wanted a scene to put it into. So I thought of a simple base with some kind of machinery from the family farm in one corner of it and luke standing off to the side. An 11x14 metal picture frame with sand and putty placed directly on the acrylic, after sanding, were added.

The seller recommended a resin 1/15 scale figure of Luke for sale. That figure ended up having a very flat body. I added lots of miliput to fill out the back of the chest and elbow areas of the arms. The rear belt area also got some pouches that were missing, also made from miliput.

So it ended up that I repainted parts of the landspeeder and modified some parts. With a modified and painted resin figure. And made up base. It was fun!

The only problem is and was that the speeder has a nasty bow in it that I don't think would come out without heating it up and unwarping it. That would wreck the paint job. Oh well...

ESB AT-ST BUILD: "ka chung, ka chung, ka chung…"

This is Allan Hansen's partially built project that I've taken over. Allan had built the head and top of the chassis - some of the most difficult and important areas to scratch and modify kit parts. Also, the kit parts were ordered very neatly into bags representing the subassemblies, which helped move things along in an orderly fashion. Allan also made possible placement of non-canon symmetry in some of the head parts on the right side of the head by using magnets to hold them on or pose it with them off, as is the stop motion puppet. Even the chin guns are held on with magnets.

Since all of that was taken care of, I've completed most of the rest of it the last two weeks. These pics show it as of last weekend. Since then I've made a couple of mistakes that I'll just have to live with. Hopefully they're not too noticeable and can be put down to "interpretation". Everyone seems to build them a little differently and makes them a little more neat than the original - which had hot glue blobs especially all over the right thigh area. The original was built in such a rush I'm surprised it held up for filming!

I'll post pics of this weekend's progress in the next day or so. I'm just placing the hoses and such now. They're the last parts to go on it. Oh yeah, and the little part that goes under the nebelwerfer arms in the upper thigh area. The feet and engine areas are just fit in place, no glue yet.

I ended up scratching the inner thigh plate that had me scratching my head and on an intergalactic search of obscure kit parts trying to find it. Life's too short, and I had to move on.

For the most part I wrote with pen on parts then eyeballed x-acto-ing or razor blading the cuts on parts. Only in one area did I waste an AMT flatbed part by cutting it incorrectly.

Now I have my own unstarted AT-ST to figure out what to do with. I'd like to make another, using this as reference. The other might be idealized and symmetrical instead of asymmetrical like this one. All I know is I can't get enough of building these. I also have a Neisen version I made a diorama of.

So far I've had a blast with this!

Ok so figured It was about time I shared a build around here. Been gettin so much out of this place so time to start putting a bit in. I've got quite a few kits on the go and need to finish up a chunk of them this year as my wife is now expecting our 3rd child. So hopefully this will motivate me to make some progress pretty quickly on this one. Also there are some fantastic studio scale kits coming out this year. Some really big ones too so I need to clear the workshop asap for some of the bigger kits. This year is going to to be expensive for me I can feel it.
Also will be releasing the Turbo Laser kit in the comming months so that is going to take up a chunk of my time, but we are confident everyone will be very happy with it. Will start a new thread on that soon.

So the BIG AT-AT...... I was lucky enough to be one of the fortunate few who actually got one of these kits. I honestly think it is my favorite kit to date and I have a few.
[img][/img]
The diorama as some of you already know from the RPF , will be six feet long and 2 1/2 ft wide. It will have 3 speeders, 1 of which will be crashed and a snow base. Also I have an ILM Hoth background to be printed on a large format printer and a control panel with audio files also from ILM. So it's kinda interactive from that point of view. I need this finished for a show in sept so here goes.

I found the MPC Speeders were perfect for the dio but they needed a little work to make them a little more accurate. Firstly I opened up the canopy and got rid of the raised panels. The Mpc pilots were crap so they had to go. Mike gave me permission to cast up his 1/24 x wing pilot as they were a perfect match. This is how the MPC should have been done to begin with.[/img]

I've been on a time crunch with just about everything lately. I leave on a 3-month business trip next week. If you've seen any of my other builds, you'll notice that I make and use laser cut parts. Unfortunately, this weekend will probably be the last time I get to use the cutter. It's been a good three years! :cry

Soooo....I decided to hurry up and get the basic shapes of the Falcon cut before my trip. Mission accomplished! Man this thing is huge!!!!

I used Joshua Maruska's drawings, imported them to the program I use and made vector templates from them. As with most Falcon builds, I'm taking a different approach. Due to the table size, I had to break the body up into three parts. It's ok, though. If it doesn't work out, I'll just have to cut a new hull by hand. I also incorporated a few guide notches for some parts. Oh, and there are 38 ribs in all! To tell you the truth, if I could have only done the ribs, it would have still been worth it! Call me lazy, it's ok! :lol

All in all, I used one 72" x 24" sheet of .060" styrene (cut up into 24" x 20" pieces) for all the parts.

PM me if you would like a copy of the cutting file. I have to warn that although I have spent a lot of time on these parts, there may still be some errors. I think it's a good start though. BTW, I can provide drawings with and without the 3-part body.

Oh, and I misspelled Joshua Maruska's name in the preview above. I'll correct it later.

I've been on a time crunch with just about everything lately. I leave on a 3-month business trip next week. If you've seen any of my other builds, you'll notice that I make and use laser cut parts. Unfortunately, this weekend will probably be the last time I get to use the cutter. It's been a good three years! :cry
