RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - Wombat - 09-27-2012 I remember mixing, mixing and more mixing till i ended up with the colours i ended up with. Be curious to see how yours look now with these new colours applied. RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - LeeS - 09-28-2012 I'll take a pic tomorrow once it's 'pre weathering' ready :-) The red is now maybe a little dark so I'm thinking again on that one. I went with cans for the containers as I hate running out and then having to start again. But I may have to mix my own red. I think the Tamiya Field Grey is very close to the right green colour. RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - Wombat - 09-28-2012 At the end of the day the only person that needs to be happy with the final colours is yourself. In someways mixing the colours may have been an easier way to get a result you was happy with although it sounds like you mostly are now anyway so thats great news. ![]() RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - LeeS - 09-30-2012 Base paint is now done, decals and weathering next. ![]()
RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - Wombat - 10-01-2012 You tease!! lol Looking good there!! and the red looks just fine.. RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - LeeS - 10-01-2012 There is a clue to my 'surprise' in one of those pics :-) RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - t2sides - 10-01-2012 Hey Lee, Looking awesome, seriously great!!! Nice Job. Is this the 'surprise'? (attached) That is a good part to find in the Lindbergh kit as I recall (even if it's not the surprise). BTW, not sure if you have access to Floquil railroad paints, but they seem to be the ones they used in the day. I think your colors look good though, but, if I may, the reefer (the one with the red stripes) was originally 'Depot Buff', kinda a sand color from Floquil, yours looks gray, but it could be the photo. Once you start plastering on that wonderful weathering, it will definitely start bringing the hues together and making it look real nice. Keep up the excellent updates! -Sean RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - LeeS - 10-01-2012 Hey Sean, No that's not it :-) I actually can't remember what kit part that is, it's one discovered long ago. There's a bunch of small details that are slightly off on mine in light of the newer photos. I have updated as much as I could without fear of damage. The refer is indeed buff/tan not grey. My red container is a little dark, but apart from that I think I'm fairly close. Not sure I can get Floquil paints here in Thailand. But I can certainly get some shipped here! L RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - Apophis - 10-01-2012 Looking great Lee! I imagine that since ILM originally built all of these models for the movie that yes they wouldve used Floquil paints, also, they mightve used their favorite mixture of reefer white and grime, 50/50 mix like the falcon. This is what i painted my AQ. RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - Wombat - 10-01-2012 I think the red will look just fine.. Once you get that weathering layed on it's gonna look nothing like that at all as you well and truely know. Look forward to see what you dish up with that side of things. ![]() As for ya hint of the surprise..They only thing i'm thinking is you are gonna shoot this bluscreen? The mount is covered either to keep paint off of it or it could be your hint perhaps???? RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - LeeS - 10-01-2012 Thanks! Like most of my stuff, I have some floquils in storage. I'll see what I can get sent over. (IF I can wait :-)) RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - JAWS - 10-08-2012 Lookin good Lee. Can't wait to see this done. RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - LeeS - 10-08-2012 Decals done and some scratches on the containers ![]() ![]() First round of paint weathering, just a basic dirty brown wash.
RE: My Colonial Movers Saga... - Wombat - 10-08-2012 I'm so looking forward to seeing this side of things! Nice start and them decals look damn good!
