RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 01-20-2010 Outstanding work my friend!!!
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 07-26-2010 I'm getting back on the shuttle now after a little break. Mostly internal stuff going on getting ready to close up the hull. Engines attached to the rear body. The tray under the cockpit area is glued in. I added a couple of holes to run the wires through from the rear. I'm going to make the cockpit lid and the "cube" part removable and do all the electrical connections underneath so they are accessible. Ok, so, I admit I'm more than a little paranoid about things coming loose inside the model once it's sealed up. I drilled holes through all the joints it the armature and wire-tied them so they can't ever move. The pipe armature is wire-tied and epoxied to the resin frame. The taped on part is the bottom mounting block. I taped it on the armature so I don't forget about it when the armature gets glued into the body. Lastly, working on the brass plugs for the power connections. Trying to stay true to the studio model will a little inspiration from Wombat. Thanks !! -Doug RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - darkimmitator - 07-26-2010 Lookin REAL good !!!!!! More updates please !!!!!!!!! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 07-26-2010 NIIIIIICE Doug. Ive actually been toying with my Shuttle also. Might even have an update! This is great & am sure it will be nothing less than fantastic once your through with it. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 07-27-2010 Looking GOOD Doug i hope to get back to work on my soon. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - Wombat - 07-27-2010 Nice ta see some progress on this again there I'd normally say it was about time ya pulled ya finger out on it,but since you've been sidetracked on that other killer build, then thats not case this time. ![]() Anyway, get stuck into it while ya can!
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 07-27-2010 Thanks, gents !!! I ran out of glue now, among other things , so i'm tackling things as I can. Between the engines, the tray, and the armature this thing is sucking down epoxy like crazy. I did get my replacement and new parts (and decals) in the mail from Mike today so that's not holding me up. And I got the lights for the CR so I'm really running out of excuses now. Ok - time to go home and get busy !! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - Wombat - 07-27-2010 Is that the flu i hear ya coming down with? LOL RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 07-27-2010 :cough: RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 427 Cobra - 07-28-2010 (07-27-2010, 06:00 PM)dbhs Wrote: :cough: ![]() Alright you guys - back to work! I read this thread post in an email. I was hoping that there would be pictures. My time is a little more flexable today, so I decided to pop in for a look. I have to get back to work as soon as I jump off the forum. I'll come back a few days to see what everyone has been up to. I just wonder what the brass tubing is for? ~ Cobra Chris
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 07-28-2010 Hey Doug what was that power source we had to use? It was a special adaptor because we were using auto bulbs. I remember asking Phil a while back but can't find it in the threads???? I remember asking Phil a while back but can't find it in the threads???? My power supply is 12V and 10 watts. I think the wattage on mine is a little low but that's what i have right now. I still haven't tested it with all the lights on at once. The engine bulbs are 5w a piece. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 07-28-2010 There are two types of 12V wall adaptor. I remember we had to use a specific one as we were running LED's with auto lights? Like 12VA or something like that? RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - Wombat - 07-29-2010 It's just 12V DC output mate.Again it'll just be the amps you'll have to decide on.The one Doug mentioned would be 1A (10watts).The one i've got is 2.5A.I think the thread you was looking for might have been down in the lighting section where Ron was helping out with my questions. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 07-30-2010 Thats it. Thanks mate. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-02-2010 I got to spend most of the day on it today and made a lot of progress Rear brass plugs installed. I decided to go with only the front and rear plugs. And with the greeblies installed over the plugs. The front half of the body is installed on the armature. Here's a view looking inside at the bottom mounting point. Everything slathered in epoxy. Before sealing up the rear half of the body I did a last check on the wiring to make sure the plugs and lights are all working. Here's the rear plugs in use. Photo just before gluing up the rear half of the body to the front. Masking tape applied around the glue joint to keep it clean. Inside view of the cockpit with the front power plugs installed. In adding the front plugs I tried to recreate the slight asymetry of the original. It was a lot of work to get to this point and getting the body sealed up. Now it will be fun to start applying the greeblies and flush out all the exterior details. Thanks for looking !! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-07-2010 Here's mine with the cockpit lights on finally. Still loving the engine lights. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - Wombat - 08-07-2010 And they look awesome!!! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 08-08-2010 Man that looks COOL!!!!!! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 08-08-2010 Really Kool. Im bloody jelous now..... RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - darkimmitator - 08-08-2010 I echo the oppinions of my fellow modelers above !!! SHAZAM !!!!! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-09-2010 Thanks, gents !!! I'm working on the masking on the concept raider now and want to get back on the shuttle as soon as the paint starts drying on the other one. Still have about 200 little parts in bags that need a home on this guy !!! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 427 Cobra - 08-09-2010 I've truly been asleep at the wheel around here! I had to work the last two days, so I can't stay on top of things anyway. Oh, well... At least I get to see this, even if I wasn't one of the first to see it. This looks great, Doug! I just wish I could get some progress done on my projects. I guess that doing too many things at once takes its' toll on your enthusiasm to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time! What are you going to use for the lights, since light bulbs are too hot? ~ Cobra Chris
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-10-2010 I'm going with the halogen lights - heat and all. I won't be able to keep them on too long and that's ok. I decided when I started this kit that I want as much studio model accuracy as possible regardless of the final look or function. I'll leave the brass wire plugs exposed with the wires hanging out and an on-off switch on the power cord. This way it will be displayed with wires showing like it would have been used while filming. I'll be able to turn the lights on and off without fiddleing with the brass plugs. Maybe not a conventional approach but it's what I wanted for this model. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-11-2010 Getting started on the greeblies now. Tackling the rear and bottom first. The armature and the stand are really handy for putting on the greeblies. I can rotate the shuttle end over end with it attached on the side like this. I was lucky to have a few spare kit parts donated to the cause so there will be a little plastic mixed in with the resin now. ![]() RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 08-11-2010 Looking good ya bugger! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 08-13-2010 I agree looking GOOD!!!! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-13-2010 Thanks guys. I got the bottom rear done last night. I'll be starting on the sides around the engines next. I think the landing gear will be very last and possibly not glued on until after it's painted. I'm pretty sure I'll end up breaking them off moving it around before it's safely in a case. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-25-2010 I got the morser parts that cove the side mounting points done and installed magnets to hold them on. A pair of magnets are installed in the hull just above the mounting point. The morser parts just have steel inserts. I used some flat head screws - mostly just the head. They hold on plenty tight. Will post some pics tomorrow night. That rhymes - LOL. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 08-26-2010 Your a modeling poet & you didn't even know it.... RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-26-2010 Don't get me started, man. You'll regret it. Back to modeling.... RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 08-26-2010 Here are the covers. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 10-13-2010 Been almost 2 months since my last post on this. I had started the rear starboard side and managed to get most of the parts on it tonight. The details are tough to reconcile on this part but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The central pieces between the harrier parts will go on later. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - Wombat - 10-13-2010 It's about time!! ![]()
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 10-13-2010 Nice. Kit parts. You basdard.... RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 427 Cobra - 10-13-2010 Shut up, Jase!! I just love seeing these things come to life. To think that urethane resin mixed with styrene would look so good once made into a solid, then a liquid, then a solid again without missing a beat! Who would've thought that someday you could make copies of your favourite models from T.V., and movies? I wish we had this resin back in the day - it's so much easier to sand, and work with. Now if I could just get the money to cast my own parts......~ Cobra Chris
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 10-14-2010 Looking GOOD!!!!!!!! Man i need to get back to work on mind. Do you have any more building to do? RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 10-14-2010 Well its about 80% done i still have a little more painting to do as well as a few more parts to put on and a little weathering to do i would have finished by now but but when i got in the Colonial Mover kit in i could'nt wait to start work on it so i put the Shuttle on hold for a little while but after seeing your 's and jason's progress am really wanting to finish it. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 10-14-2010 Yeah I actually thought you had pretty much wrapped this puppy up Mark. Wombat as well? Just thought it was some paint. Phils should be finished. Would do him good to work on something else. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 10-15-2010 You know i thought Phil would through with his by now but have'nt heard anything from him about his shuttle he must be working on another project like me. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 10-18-2010 The weather was gloomy all weekend and it kept me in the workshop the whole time. I loved every minute of it and feeling good that I made some progress on the shuttle. Especially since I crossed the line of having more parts glued on than sitting in bags or bins. I dug through my hardware bins and found a pan-head screw that just matches the one on the rear deck in the B&W image. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - 79 Daytona - 10-18-2010 Outstanding work thats looking great!!! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 10-19-2010 Nice Doug. Looking really sweet. You may still get your done before me matey! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 10-19-2010 We'll see about that... I didn't get around to ordering the piping for the sides until yesterday. The antenna and landing gear will slow me down now for sure while I'm waiting. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 10-23-2010 I got my wire this week..... and the weather is shitty again this weekend !!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - JAWS - 10-24-2010 So show us what you got buddy! RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 10-24-2010 I got the wires and side details done today and will start the bottom and landing gear tomorrow. I'll post pics tomorrow. RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - Snake Plissken - 10-25-2010 Hey dbhs Can you tell me what the frout parts are and kit it is from ![]() Thanks
RE: BSG Shuttle GAL356 - dbhs - 10-25-2010 Unfortunately I have no idea. the part map says "AMT Peterbuilt ?" but I don't see it on the kit scans for that over at studioscale.com. It has the same listing on the part map at RI so maybe still an unknown part. SeanC should know but it might not be a "public knowledge" part. |
