Well my set has a a big opening in the bottom plate which should allow for any drive parts to stick through. I will have the drive mechs attach to a seperate bottom plate with the whole body being removable. The non hero side will be finished to the same standard as the hero side on my build. The original had four motors, one above each track. I believe the centre box between the front and back tracks actually housed the batteries.

I plan to use modern motors and batteries which are much smaller than what they used in the ‘70s. I’ll also use belts instead of chains. There should be plenty of room for all of this inside the Sandcrawler.

Next phase of the build. Side sections and top mid section done. Next step is the access pit at what I call the back of the neck.

Thanks Guys. I'm really looking forward to moving to the back end. That was actually the part that made me want to build this thing. The parts layout on that butt is just gorgeous.

Besides building the beast, I recently started modelling out the headlights. They have been 3D printed and will soon be able to check if they work. Final version will be machined out of aluminium.
