Ah ok.. well, I'd say the gray I used and the light gray you used are pretty close.. Now, you added 7 parts Flat white.. which would lighten the gray up more.. and look pretty close to what Im using now.. ok, I feel better now Smile

I can't believe I didn't leave rep points for you, Scratchy!! Blush I figured that you more than deserve them. Check your rep comment from me. Wink

This is going to be a rocking build, Richard. I can't wait to see the lights completely installed from left to right. The con tower is killer! This makes warm fuzzy memories come back to me.

Thanks 427 Cobra, that's just too kind of you.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 05-17-2010

This is why the ISD was put on hold, I still have a lot of work to do on her.....

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - 427 Cobra - 05-19-2010

Just keep cutting that plastic and gluing those bits! I can't as it's been raining for the last three days! Angry I have so much acrylic to cut and I can't work out in the rain with my Moto-tool. At least I have enough work to keep me busy for a couple of days until it dries out enough to get back on the X. This is why I haven't posted anything lately, but I'm glad to see that you're still on top of your projects, Scratchy.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - JAWS - 05-20-2010

Thats another teaser Jay. Can't enlarge the picture for a good look.....

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 05-20-2010

Im a real jerk aren't ITongue

when I'm done with the painting, I'll post some pics on a thread that's specific to the Nebulon B. I just wanted to throw one pic up to show her to everyone. I'm about to pencil in some hull plating lines then apply the washes. I touched up the medical bay window today.

I'm glad it's working out, after making a statement about lighting a 1/2256 Nebulon B and not having it turn out... Well, I didn't want anyone to think I was nuts!

how's that, it's still a bit fuzzy

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - erospawn - 05-21-2010

Hmm, I've got the Nebulon B.. and lighting that up might be a bit of a trick. The Mc - 80 which I also have, no problem.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - JAWS - 05-21-2010

Thanks. It looks wicked Jay.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 06-13-2010

Well, finally found some time for the ISD, I finished off the Port side of the front of the tower

I love the detail this has, Jay! This hangar would look great with light inside it. Will this be lighted too?

thanks Chris,

yes, actually there is lights already in the hanger, I believe I have some pics earlier on in the thread that shows this.

Thanks for the kind words.

Here are a couple more pics of the bridge, I've added some more detail to the star board side

These pics are just another re-shoot with a better camera, covering the bridge details again,

Are any of the microscopic details kit parts or are you scratching the whole thing? It all looks like styrene.

This is insane. I love it.

Some of the very small parts that are grey or yellow (paint) were sliced from a deck of various battleships with a razor blade. Other details where butchered from other kit parts. Other than that, all that is "white" is custom cut styrene.... I do have some grey styrene in there as well.

It's a slow process, but well worth it in the end.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 07-10-2010

Here's the last of the details for the front of the Command Tower. Now I'll finish off the back side.

Thanks for following alongWink

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - JAWS - 07-10-2010

Hell Jay that is sick man. Thanks for my weekly dose of serious 'scratchy' building mate!

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 07-12-2010

Thanks Jason!

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - Hammer3246 - 07-12-2010

Yep, great work happening there!

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 07-16-2010

Thank you Hammer3246, that's very kind of you to say.

Here's a small update, I made a couple detail parts for the back of the command tower. Here's the piece at the left corner already glued on.

I scratched up these two detail parts, I believe it's "skirt armour" from a tank that was used on the studio model,
[Image: bridge13.jpg]

Here they are glued to the back
[Image: bridge14.jpg]

I thought now would be a good time to finish roughing in the top level of the Superstructure before I add any more details to her.....

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - 427 Cobra - 07-16-2010

Excellent! I wish this was going to be a big model, but we all know that's not the scratchy way! Tongue The detail on this is incredible for something so small.

~ Cobra Chris

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 07-17-2010

Thanks 427 Cobra. Yeah, something larger would be cool to build. However, this will look nice beside a 1:2256 fleet of other capital ships.

Thanks for the link jason, howver that's the wrong one, I'm looking for parts from the old MPC Darth Vaders TIE. The Wings, pylons, and cockpit grill.

Yes, that would be the one.

These are all over the bay. Here's one for 9 bucks. Vintage 70's version are still around $20.

I'd love to see you do the SSD at the same scale and with the same level of detail. That would be huge. 8.5 meters? Is that right? You'll need a whole lifetime to do that one.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 07-18-2010

Thanks for the link dbhs. I seen the eBay auctions, but first I wanted to send out the call in the modelling forums to see if anyone had extra parts laying around in a parts box, offer my fellow builders some cash or even trades before I resort to eBay.

As for the super star destroyer,..... I'm affraid that I don't have enough house for that build. Besides, I've accumulated a number of kits since I rediscovered this hobby of mine and I also have some builds that have been started, but not finished.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - JAWS - 07-18-2010

Well Ive got those parts so if your happy to wait until the weather warms up & I can get them casted'nicely' I can do that.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 07-20-2010

Just finished roughing in the superstructure, now I have something to detail. I'm satisfied with the shape even thought there is some lense distortion form the camera. Once the detail gets on, it'll look wider.

That would be one insane kit. Although the thought has crossed my mind of doing a kit, but I feel that I would have to better my skills before such endevour is taken.

"had the chance to get to know me",... Chris, you're not planning on leaving the forum are you?

Say it isn't so....

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - JAWS - 07-25-2010

Better your skills. No. Think about parts being separated & remade. Yes..... You could do it easy. There are people out there also that would help you achieve such a goal.

No, sir! I'm only taking a small vacation from modeling for a short stint. I have to do some side work that will take a while to complete, then I'll return. I'm just glad to know you, and the others here, but your skills with tiny things is exemplary! My hand grip is begining to wane a little because of carpal tunnel syndrome. I also have a spinal injury that causes me pain, and partial paralysis on the left side of my body. These conditions are causing me to rethink my role in the world of modeling. After the projects I have on my table are complete, I don't know how much more of this my body will allow me to do. Confused

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 07-26-2010

Well, if you're not doing any modelling for a short period of time, then be sure to visit Cobra Chris!

One last pic, just a little bit more work on her for the end of the weekend,

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 08-02-2010

Well, it's official, with the exception of the spires on top of the shield domes and the four small door flaps underneath the bridge, this piece is done. I'll add the other pieces at a later date, I just don't want to damaged them while handling her and repair them later on.

Thanks for following along, now I'll tackle the scribing of the superstructure and start detailing.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - dbhs - 08-02-2010

Looks fantastic. Seems like you started with the most complicated part first. Maybe the engine area is just as complicated as well. Looking forward to what you do next.....

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - JAWS - 08-02-2010

Crazy. Love ya work Jay!

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines, I think the biggest challenge for this build for me was the engines, hangers, and diffinitly the shield domes. Once I got those pieces done, I'ld figure it would be downhill from there..... but I've been wrong before.Dodgy

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 08-10-2010

I added the end pieces to the superstructure, I didn't add too much scribing to this area, out of fear that the pressure of the knife blade would break these pieces off. I'll hit it with some pencil lines after it's painted.

I just finished with the scribing, I gave the the superstructure a light sanding with some steel wool, without blowing out the lines, just so they're a little bit more visible for the pics. Once I start glueing on the raised "plate" styrene, I'll add some more that closer resembles what's on the actual model, and I'll touch it up with some pencil lines after it's painted. I improved upon my technique, it didn't take as long as before, it was less work, and the results where better.

Next, I'll start penciling in the placement of the "shelves" along the perimeter and start glueing those on, then I'll concentrate on the tower and detail that area before touching the superstructure details.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - JAWS - 08-10-2010

Wow just gets better & better. Love it Jay. Its fantastic.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - 427 Cobra - 08-11-2010

This is very inspiring! I think I might just go back, and finish all my projects now. I need to find the bumpers to my '59 Cadillac Eldorado - the ones that I had to special order to replace the original ones in the kit. If I can get all my other kits that I started built - I can get the motivation to finish the models that I've started mastering. Keep going, Jay - I need your strength. We're the only two fools scratching Star Wars stuff at the moment. Undecided

Sounds good, that's what I want to hear. Modelling isn't a weekend hobby, it's something that's done over years. Take your time, and give your hands a rest when they need them.

RE: Scratchbuilt Star Destroyer 1/2222 scale - scratchy - 08-22-2010

I decided to go back into the back of the tower and pull some plastic off. These pieces right here (they're gone), marked with the arrows, I took the plastic rod out.

I found these gun barrels from the POW that I had in a parts box, they would be better in that area.

Here they are glued on
[Image: bridge24.jpg]

Here's some work on the shelves on the superstructure

Not just yet, I had some more shelves to go upDodgy

Here's the shelves of the superstructure, the majority are on, now I have something to assist with the placement of the detail pieces. I made some longer, I'll trim these down when I detail those select areas.

I wanted to get these out of the way before I start work on the "spine" of the tower. Next will be the garbage chute and the surrounding area.
