RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 04-29-2011

So this is my box of goodies. I also now have the medicine cups used for the seconadry rockets in the engine bay. We're progressing quite nicely. Its been a productive couple of weeks on the builds & am looking forward to some more over the next few weeks. Im in no hurry to build this as Iwant it to be right the first time so the second one is a simple follow on.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - darkimmitator - 04-29-2011

That is not a bad lookin haul there Jase ! Was that all in one sale ? Wow!!!!!!

Second one???

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 04-29-2011

One box. One seller. One shipping cost. I am extremuly lucky to have a vintage kit supplier. Sorry this one is something im keeping to myself as i will be buying all his kits.

Charles i thought i mighy build 2. One for me & one to help cover some cosys. Not definite. We'll see as we go.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 05-05-2011

Ok so Im back at this build after my brothers wedding over the weekend. What a great wedding it was. Even better than my own! hahahah Wink Anyway so Im still Id'ing parts & seperating them from kits. I am putting all the parts from a kit into seperate containers. I plan to mould & cast all these parts Confused Oh crap what the hell am I doing as this is a HUGE job..... All good. So Ive been working with a couple of people Id'ing this baby & we've got just under a100 kits on the list so far. A lot more than I expected actually & some surprising ones at that Cool Anyway I said this would be a slow build as it is going to be a very accurate one. The photos show my Devestator research table. You can see the containers I put each seperate donors kit parts into for storage. Stay tuned crew.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - Wombat - 05-05-2011

All good things take good planning and you seem to be covering your bases there.Wink
Very nice stash you picked up there, your collection there must be looking pretty incredible these days!

You got my attention on one of your tub's there. Can you tell me which kit this tub's part's are from?

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - LastBattlestar - 05-05-2011

Old teeth found in the fried rice that was in there?

Mike

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - ringa - 05-05-2011

Hey, Jase, you're a busy guy! Like my wife said when she saw my build, "It's like a huge puzzle!" A puzzle AND an Easter egg hunt to find all the pieces!

Those are from the AMT Kenworth. I just bought one for the same parts last month. It comes with 8 of the 'U' shaped pieces, so it was necessary to cast 4 more to complete the back.

Thanks!

Are you talking about the W-925 or another.I have that one but for the life of me i can't see those u shaped part in there.I even looked over the instructions but couldn't see them on there anywhere either.Where actually does the U shaped part go on the truck?

I think they are part of the engine. Not sure, I didn't pay that much attention to what part of the truck they're for. To me they are Star Destroyer parts first Big Grin I didn't know there was another Kenworth, but the W-925 sounds right. I'm not at home to check. [EDIT] I'm wrong. Here's a photo of the box I bought...

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - LastBattlestar - 05-06-2011

You reckon those parts are on the Galactica Phil?

Mike

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - dbhs - 05-06-2011

Beautiful work there. I love seeing them with all the greeblies exposed in their raw form.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 05-06-2011

Theres one used on the front of the Shuttle. Phil I got the W925. I noticed your kit scan didn't have them in there? Its used all over the Galactica Mike, especially along the waiste body & neck. The neck uses the frame on either side. You can see the box in the last lot of kits I got.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - Wombat - 05-06-2011

Well i got ripped then, this wasn't a sealed kit but as far as everything needed for the Gal that was listed i removed and bagged up,so thats all good.I was thinking of the shuttle when i seen the pictures you posted,i was just curious as i had looked for them when i was building that up without finding them.So where on the damn truck does this part get used, what the frak is it meant to be.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - star-art - 05-07-2011

Looks like an A-arm for the suspension. . .

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 06-07-2011

Just have to get started on this build after soo long doing reference research on this subject. Have started getting the sub sections together.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 09-27-2011

Righto then its been a while since I updated this build & it has in no way been off the bench.
Just lots of research to be done.
So yesterday I picked up my hull & frame acrylics from the plastic supplier.
Unfortunately they got some of it wrong.
Parts cut too big & too small.
The frame diamonds were cut twice the size as they should have been so I would have been building an 8'er Confused
As much as I would like too I will leave that for crazy builder colleague Monsier Tox.
Hopefully I will pick up the corrected parts some time today & the other 2 hull parts they didn't even cut Rolleyes
These things happen & the plans could easilly be misread by people not knowing these subjects.
Heres a brief glimpse of what I did get.
You will notice the 6 squareish rectabgular parts that are the spacers between the frame.
These were cut too small.
They are copies of the original structures & look great other than their size.....
All the information about everything is coming soon.
I have people to aknowlege & thank when all the correct stuff is together.
The parts in the container are the engine mounts.
With all the work thats been done on the paterns by Charles with help by Rick & myself this thing should go together pretty tight.
This is the protortype that Charles Adams has over the last 6 months been drawing up in his limited spare time.
Rick Inglesby & myself have also helped in getting the dims as accurate as possible & I think this should show that once construction starts.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - ringa - 09-27-2011

Those parts look good. I am so close to the end, and you're just beginning. I hope when yours is done that it is everything you hoped it would be! Best of luck in this build!

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 09-27-2011

Rick you have been a huge source of inspiration in this build & my others.
I can not thank you enough foir your participation in these projects.

Just picked up 'almost' the last parts for this build to begin.
I am missing just 2 small pieces for the frame supports & have asked Charles to make a couple of minor additives to the paterns to match the studio model.
They should not be any problem for Charles & will have them added to my parts tomorrow hopefully.
I am also seeing my stainless steel guy for my armature pieces to replicate the original model.
Charles's work on this is simply superb & the knowlege he has picked up working on the Galactica has certainly paid off.

So here is a glimpse of what has already been developed.
Thanks Charles for helping make my dreams come true as accuaretly as can be.
Which is so important to me. Cool

This is certainly going to be a dream come true.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - beaz - 09-29-2011

Now that's cool!

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 09-29-2011

I totally agree with you on that one beaz.
Charles has just made a couple of adjustments to the paterns to incorporate the holes in the bulkheads.
The paterns are now true representations of the original frame.
I will be taking my parts back for them to add these holes some time today & hopefully picking up the armature mount before the weekend.
The engine section is so kool on these paterns also as its all layed out ready for assembly.
Charles did a brilliant job on mapping & paterning that area.
We are now working on finalising the head, neck, superstructure & docking bay paterns.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - MonsieurTox - 09-29-2011

Awesome Jase ! Now nothing can stops you !

To avoid any problem when getting parts lasercut, I always put a drawing of a 5" square in the drawing (for each parts of separate file), labelled as a ' 5 inches square for reference -not to be cut- ', this way I never had any problem getting smaller or bigger parts, the guys know how big it should be !

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - star-art - 09-29-2011

That's good advice. When I make laser-cutting files, I have a standard 1" X 1" square in every file. Note that I did not supply laser-cutting files in this case. Jason is having them cut from PDF construction plans I created. Those were drawn 1/2 size to make it possible to print them out (and they are still huge).

I would not use the word "adjustments" in describing the changes that were made. He simply asked me to put some lightening holes in the main frame parts to match what was done on the original. These details seemed to evolve somewhat during construction. I added them so Jason could have the most authentic replica possible which is what he wanted. Except, of course, he is not using plywood. LOL

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - MonsieurTox - 10-01-2011

Oops I was meaning 2" x 2" (was thinking 5 cm while typing lol).

Yeah I try to avoid sending .pdf files to get my parts lasercut because I noticed that even when at 1:1 sometimes it happens that the parts a tad smaller or bigger (by only a few mm on big parts, but those mm can lead to a major failure Big Grin).

I'm so jealous when I see your hull and Rick's one !! I want mine so bad !
I cant wait to see it assembled Jase !

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 10-01-2011

Ha! you think you get jelous of our work Big Grin
Your the king J Cool

I take back the nice words I said about my plastic supplier.
Wasn't happy with what they charged me to get the holes added to the frame parts & bevell the trench sides.....

Anyway its all done now.
This is going to look neat once constructed.
Wink

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - MonsieurTox - 10-01-2011

Yeah, getting bevelled edges is not cheap but I think it is worth it, I will have to bevell everything by myself (ribs, side trench plates, hull edges etc) and it won't be easy on such large parts Confused

You're probably not saving money but you're saving a lot of time my friend !

Go, go, start to build the hull ! Big Grin

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 10-31-2011

Started to clean up today.
Again.
Finally got this off the floor & onto a bench.
Have some more tidying up to do to create some much needed space & get Ricks parts done.
Im way behind schedule on lots of stuff...
Good to see it coming together slowly.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - Wombat - 10-31-2011

All good things take time mate but i bet ya itchin to start puttingthat together. I must get out more, those pieces look fantastic and i know if Charles has had input into this then it'll be a killer without question the pieces you'll be assembling up there. Damn, you sure are flipping galaxies all the time but theres worse problems one could have. This will be killer dude!!

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 01-28-2015

So after leaving this project due to not being able to follow through on my original direction have teamed up with another fantastic artist Robert Bosjnak, dsp5500.
Work has begun on new patterns for a complete model. Superstructure, Hulls, Docking, Engines etc.
Using photo telemetry, 3d modeling & 3d scanning will produce extremely accurate patterns for a rebirth of this project.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - dsp5500 - 01-28-2015

Mate, you've short changed me 500 on my handle. Good speakers but the 5500's sound much fuller lol

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 01-29-2015

Oops! Corrected.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 01-30-2015

I was hoping you would jump on this stonky.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - stonky - 01-30-2015

Wouldn't miss it! If there is anything that I can do to help, please let me know.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 01-31-2015

Yeah buddy. There's still plenty of R&D needed to get it right. Will be moved into the new house. Or should say house, first one for us to actually own & can get back on track.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - stonky - 01-31-2015

That's great, congratulations!

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 05-24-2019

Been a while...
Time to get this thing started.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - mikeg - 05-25-2019

Nice Job!!!

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 05-25-2019

Thanks. This like the Pod has been one of those up & down projects.
But finally just making a go on my own.
Parts laid loose at moment.
Still have a little sanding & filling before sticking them down & moving on to the superstructure.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - Hammer3246 - 05-25-2019

Sweet, now I need to build one.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - marvin - 05-26-2019

Devestatorrrrrrr!

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - Satazius - 05-26-2019

Go man go. Awesome to see.

RE: SS ANH ISD DEVESTATOR - JAWS - 05-26-2019

Hey thanks all.
It's good to be doing something again.

So I just remembered the missing part from the Bridge Face.
Missing from the bottom centre.
The long piece.
Now I remember looking for it & am pretty sure it was found.
But I can't find my notes on it...
