Its been soooo long since I worked on my build...
Im looking at Brads & about to strip it.

She really is looking great & looking at yours I see what I wish I had have done to start with.
Build the base shape before detailing.
It makes working on these models so much more efficiently.

That really does look great Ken.

Thanks Mike ,the mystery slope parts you sent me worked out great,with very little work I might add.The work shop isn't much , just a area in the furnace room set up wit a bench and some cubboards. I have started actually building a workshop out in back of my house .Hope to have it built by late fall .

Thanks Doug . Yea ,the rotating stand was pretty easy to build and is a huge help in working on a model of this size .working from top to bottom is just an effortless flip ! lol

Well here is another little update on the engine plate of the ol beast .
This part is done except for the tank hatch covers that cover up the mounting screws . And yes there are no mounting screw holes on mine as I engineered the fastening system on the backside of the plate . That way I don't have to pop the hatches off every time I need to remove the engine plate . I still am not sure if the hatches are off of the gepard tank or not . Anyway this is going to get a shot of primer to see how things blend together .

Oh man, it's engine port deja vu hell all over again for Phil and I! We're both multiple port attempt sufferers so are glad to see another completed nicely like this one. Primer that mother right away Ken!

One more thing, the two Roco crane arm on the lower outer edges should be the 88mm gun legs. Phil and I reviewed the DVD and saw those parts on the model at the time of filming.Smile

Ha ha , thanks Mike . Yes my bird dog Phil spotted that crane arm boo boo earlier and I plan on correcting it . I used weldon on the plastic parts so I will have to destroy that part carefully to change it out .
Well here is the sow's ear in some primer . This is my favorite part ,when color goes on and all the different colored plastic bits get blended together seamlessly !

That's first class Ken, no doubt about it. It's a hell of a job detailing that assembly. Until you build one, you'll never know the sheer terror!Tongue

What are your plans for the rest of the build? Build it stock or add a few tricks like I'm having fun with? You know, a filming miniature replica or a replica of a 'real' Battlestar?

Ha ha , thanks Phil ! Yes , it is a good feeling to finally get to this stage of the build on this piece . Was getting a little shack wacky staring into those ports as long as I did !

Thanks for the kind words there Mike . Plans are for the studio lighting but led lights instead of halogen quartz . I am going to build a small row of little vipers in the launch bay and put a mirror at the back of the bay end cap to catch the reflection of all the vipers and make it look like there is more in there than there really is . Still trying to research how I am going to power everything up though . Definately want to plug into a wall socket though.

But i for one understand the hours something like this eats up and hell man, that thing of yours is takin shape really well up there. It's not a quick build this one and anyone who thinks it will be is well, bloody kidding themselves. Mikes 20 year build is probably the other extreme but i think if you can build one in say 3 - 4 year on ya own you'll done ok. You should be good for that looking at where ya at.

Thanks gents ! Looking through kits for the correct part ,while researching what the part is to look for ,combined with gathering a bunch together that are going on the area that you are working on , and then spreading them all out and test fitting them to make sure they look the part before gluing them down , is what takes up alot of time . ( can't believe I got that all in one sentence and have it make some sorta sense !)
Then there is the frustration of not having a certain kit for 1 frakin piece of the puzzle to go in the area you are working on which in turn keeps you from glueing dozens of pieces down because you want to make sure all the pieces are in thier correct positions and take up the right amount of empty space !!! Fun ,Fun ,Fun !!!!! It's worth it in the end though .

Nice work Ken! Lot's of hours have obviously gone into your latest update with all that detailing being done. Damn you sure have been keeping quiet on it lately but that hasn't been the case up there. Fantastic stuff! Hey, I finally cast up an exterior post van front cap, so I was able to glue on my bottle cap too! It's a Bundaberg rum and cola cap, there for posterity. Jase and Phil will know what I'm talking about.Big Grin

I think I've gone through about 6 88mm kits, and probably the same with the railguns. I have a lot of the common greeblies moulded, so that has saved me a LOT of money over the years!

Well, I'm catching up on this site, and I must say, WOW! This looks great!! Very nice job with this project so far!! I love seeing more of these beauties coming on line (except for Mike of course, he just keeps us entertained with the eternal dry dock)! Smile

Outstanding work all around, will definitely keep watching this awesome build up!

BTW, I'm sure it's buried in the threads somewhere, but would someone mind sharing what kit this came from?? I think it's one of the few I've never followed up on. Might be good to retrofit mine with this Smile

Sean C found them parts. Italeri 1/72 Gotha Go 242/244. Kit also donates that small part that sits on the BB gun barrels resting on the stb side of the pyramid.

Hey sorry Sean . reading this post a little late . Exactly, what Phil said on them parts , the 1:72 Gotha go glider ( full credit to Sean C . ) . I also used the wheels from this kit for the two little buttons that sit on either side of the back end of the Gepard part that makes up the nose plate . Don't know if it is the right part but it looked right , just had to split the wheel in two .
Phil , your right mate , at least they did win a few cups !!

Mike , you are also right , the model is prettier than me !!

Nice lot of progress once again in multiple areas. Is that a something you are doing deliberately or because of part's, more so lack of?
Whatever the reason it all needs to be done in the end so you are off to a good start in a lot of areas now. It's coming together nicely there so far. I think you summed up the chips on the bottom of the head perfectly. There is just a few isn't there. I'm sure i'll enjoy it just as much as you are gonna when i get to laying all of those ones down. Kep up the good work bud!

Have question on the armour plate next to the scribed domes in front of the pyramid. What the hell is that plate from?

Thanks Phil . You would be right about lack of kit parts forcing me to move on to other areas to start detailing so as not to loose progress . I will just have to go back and fill in the blanks as kit parts permit .
The part in question is from the Tamiya 1:35 Jagdpanzer IV L/70 Lang . They are parts d1 and d11 and will need to be cut from the side armor . It is not Identified on the parts list , so I guess now It can be .

Well i never found it when looking for it so thanks for the help with that one, Ken. Much appreciated! Don't spose i can get you to measure it's height for me or is that the also cut to length? Just curious how it'll line up with things that i've already put in place.
Can you add that ID to the parts map thread for Jase to update also perhaps. This is great finding all these new things not ID'd on the maps, theres not a lot in the scheme of things and it'd be great to get as much listed as we can. Damn, i need anothert kit now!

Your build is sure coming along real nicely there and at an unbelieveable rate just of late. Do you actually sleep there? lol
I'm the same as you but probably more for the lack of not knowing what the part is but i need to go back to every area i've started still also and add things to finish em off. It's a good start to things in all these areas you've touched as i said before. If anything, having parts down already will be even more motivting when you can go back and work on them more. Just little here and there as you've done has it already looking PFG! It's good motivation for me also seeing all this work, i've had hardly any really over the last few weeks. Might do some chippen a bit later on an area i started a while back, might as well have some of that fun myself..lol

You are most welcome mate . The part measures 38 mm long and 24 mm wide and is easy to cut , just follow the existing line of the first two panels . I am getting a fare amount done also because i am on vacation !!! have one week left , so i will see how much more i can get done , especially before Halcon ( sci-fi convention ) as I am invited back again this year to show the progress of the beast . That show is the last weekend of october. Will definately let Jase know of the part Id .

Ah, vacation.. Good to see ya putting it to good use there. Thats fantastic the invite with the convention, sure there will be plenty that caught a glimpse last year and be keen to see more of that journey you're on. Keep cranking away with it all there as much as ya can, you'll have plenty ta show em again this year the way ya going. Was thinking of doing something similar this year but of late i don't think i can be bothered myself. Just too much trouble moving something like this around and the no motivation factor has a lil ta do with it also i guess. Maybe next year though.

Wow Ken, you're forging ahead now! Everything is looking great and accurate to me. Once you get your head around the greeblies, everything falls into place.

The scribing looks good too. I'm close to scribing the underside of the head myself and am totally dreading it! I think I'll have to put down some parts first to ensure the correct location of the panel limes. Is that how you did it?

Thanks Mike for the kind words . Yes , placing a few parts about on the areas being scribed gave me a pretty good idea on the where abouts of panel line placement . I think I would rather scribe panel lines than glueing all of those acne chips all over the hull in just the right places !!! But it has to be done , The effect is amazing at how much more depth it gives the areas of less detail or kit parts . !!!

I agree, there's a real art to the chip layout to get it looking right. Wombats chip work blows me away. Each one is from really thin styrene and way smaller and neater than I can cut. It blows me away when seen in person. Yours look very nice too.Big Grin
