When I go to the print shop to have the plans enlarged they want to know the thickness of the image 32' long side view

RE: Scaratch built 32" ESB Millennium Falcon - daverep - 02-06-2013

Okay, not sure what they mean by thickness, but I'll see if I can help. The plans that Joe created as well as Joshua Maruska's plans were designed at 1:1. They should be able to take the file (I'm assuming a PDF) and print them straight out without having to enlarge them. That's what I had done through a friend of mine who works at an engineering firm and they have a huge plotter. If you're printing out the detailed plans that Joshua Maruska created, the sheet of paper should be 88"x67". That's the document size of the file. Unless they can't print something that large...that might be why they're asking.

Now...with that said, the measurement of the width of the Falcon drawing (the side view with the cockpit) from the top gun turret window trim (for lack of a better term) to the bottom gun turret window trim is just under 5.5 inches. I've taken the drawing into Adobe Illustrator and came up with 5.0463 inches.

Hopefully that helps. If not, PM me and we'll see if we can figure this out.

Good luck!
-Dave

Thanks went out and the place I went to, didn't have paper that size so I'm on the phones in the AM and got home to some good news from Amazon about my shipped model kits. They have been delayed for over a week. Now I'm just looking around the net for some photo etched parts that will pass for engine vents.

RE: Scaratch built 32" ESB Millennium Falcon - daverep - 02-07-2013

The other evening I went through the Maruska plans and took out each individual drawing and place them into separate files. If you PM me your email address, I can send those to you as PDFs.

Maybe your print shop can handle the individual views? In order to print out the top view, you're looking at a paper size of at least 32". So, if you want to do this, check with them to find out their maximum paper size.

Jase...where are you with this build? I was using a few of your early photos to help me figure out what to do with my build. Tongue

That's the beauty of Maruska's drawings! You can manipulate each section individually....big thanks to Maruska, whoever the hell you are, man! Smile

Hey Dave, if I can get those files from you, I would appreciate it! I need to purchase the program I normally use again so I can't work with my files at the moment......hmmmmm....I wonder if I have Illustrator somewhere around here.

Joe...I'll email them either really late tonight or tomorrow night if that's okay. I teach this evening and won't be home until 11:45pm my time.

If you need something done on one of the drawings, let me know! I should be able to handle it while you're searching. I was going to shoot you an email last night after working a bit on these files, but ran out of time. Undecided

His drawings are INCREDIBLY helpful and I gotta say, what you did was awesome as well! BIG help! Big Grin

Take your time, bro! And thanks! I should have some time coming up where I can put my hull pieces together and start bashing out the details for the guts....aka 1" tubes and inner support.....probably gonna go with square tubing.

Yes the print shop was able to handle the individual image so I have what I need thanks a bunch.

Dave this build has been canned.
Going to stick with the ANH models first.
So will probably upgrade to the 5'er when i finally buy my house.
At present we're living with the inlaws & 'everything' is in storage.
Except my newly arrived Escape Pod Hull from Mr Salzo that is getting stripped of the few details cast into it & replaced with all kit parts....
Can't wait to actuall play with something again Confused

RE: Scaratch built 32" ESB Millennium Falcon - THX1701 - 02-15-2013

I've been working the engine rings and still looking for the parts they are made out of. is it easier to just make my own? and I'm looking for Entex castings if anybody is selling them.

RE: Scaratch built 32" ESB Millennium Falcon - JAWS - 02-20-2013

See Mensaboy for Entex castings.

JAWS, I decided to build the MF using your approach and so far it has been great....I can send pictures later. I am using laminated cardboard...yes it is sturdy enough...but I plan to glue styrene hull plates to give it the metallic look
I built the base and I am about to build the upper hull....unfortunately  the plans on this blog do not provide additional details.
Can you help me with further instructions to complete the model.
much appreciated
Joe
