RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 06-30-2012 Thanks mate!! I decided to just leave things as they are (fauts and all) so added a little more to this area. It's about as far as i can go with things here because of three reasons. One, i just don't know what some of the part are at all. Two, i need those unkown parts before adding some others and three, i just don't have some of the parts at the moment like another of those peterbilt wrecker jerry can halves. Ordered another of those kits but wont have for a few weeks. So for now i'm just gonna move onto the detailing of the underside of the neck with what is known anyway. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-05-2012 A little more done with all this. I think for a couple of reasons i wasn't able to get the parts to lay out how they should but even so still came out looking the part even if it's not right on the money. A few pieces still to add but i'm awaiting some more kits to finish this area off. I was able to use some of Mikes parts that i need to get everything else layed down that you can see. Bar the big M60A1 parts the rest is glued down. So for now i'll leave this bit as is and maybe take a squiz at the underside of the next chapter.
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - JAWS - 07-05-2012 Damn you been busy boy. Thats a loot of work done just there mate. Good to see. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - dbhs - 07-06-2012 Looks great, Phil. I bet you're stoked seeing it come together after all this time. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-06-2012 Thanks guys! Doug, sure am mate. Piece by piece it's slowly taking shape and it is pretty satisfying finally seeing that underside with more parts on it than bare space at last. Still a lot to go back and finish there but most of it is done. It's a good thing i'm in no rush to complete it as theres still a few years ahead of me there but i guess seeing areas slowly take shape gives me some confidence i will get there with it at some stage. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 07-06-2012 God damn Phil , your flying at this build !!! That underside is looking awesome . I have some serious catching up to do now !!!! Just great seeing this coming along . Now if we can just convince Jase to get back onto his G build , Eh !!!! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-06-2012 Cheers again, Ken! I think an update on where you are at is due so we can see just how much catching you need to do? It's not like we haven't hit for six before with an update just outa the blue now and you have been very quiet there again with the big P. It would be great to have Jase back on his again also. The more the betta, it's all inspiration for us other builders. I think personally though he just needs to finish his shuttle off and perhaps the landing gear version of the viper first. Be nice for him to just get one or both of them finished for some personal satisfaction before getting stuck into the other small build. Hopefully that will be the case soon though. Im going to go down your path Kenny & rebuild.
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - JAWS - 07-06-2012 Oh shit I didn't see Phils pictures. Sweeeeeeet. You suck being so frakn talented. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-14-2012 I aint that talented but thank you! So the kits came in i was needing to finish up the parts i know on the underside of the neck. Again it's not right on the money but is gonna have to do and is there or there abouts. Also made a small start on the next chapter. [attachment=11805][attachment=11806][attachment=11807] RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - JAWS - 07-15-2012 AAAAGHHHHHH!!!!! Sooo sexy. The model Phil, not you... Won't be long and you will be done with the bottom !!! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-15-2012 What stumpy legs and fur don't do it for ya's?? ![]() Hopefully not too long and the underside of this will be done but i know you guys understand how long these sort of things can take. It's not just the part's but theres all those damn chips that are gonna need doing also and it's gonna be like a bad case of achene under here. So looking forward to that!!
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 07-16-2012 That piping is a bitch to get all those bends to look the part . Tricky to glue into place as well !! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - JAWS - 07-16-2012 Wouldn't know.....(feel sorry for jase mode, NOT YOU TWITS). Am hoping to get back on the Big Girl sometime soon with some fresh perspective. Phil your build is looking F%$#@*g fantastic my friend. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-16-2012 Well we are gonna keep prod n ya till ya do get back on it! Wheres that damn stick gone Ken? Thanks again Jase, hopefully you do get the chance to hit it again soon. It wont be easy when ya have so much going on in ya life but even an hour a night when ya can you'll be able to see the results over time. I'd probably just keep going with where ya are now, it was looking bloody good to me from memory and at the end of the day with some paint on it it'll look bloody fantastic! Ken, there is also a bit of pipe work to go under the head and it can be a PITA at times to get the bends how you need em. Not so bad when it's on a flat surface but once you start adding other directions in can be a pig of thing at times. Hopefully by the time i get to the end of the build i'll be better at it. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 07-16-2012 Phil ,I think that stick is in my own arse ,trying to prod myself back into build mode . Jase , Phil is right in saying that even an hour or two glueing bits and pieces on a night ,or even every other night can soon add up to some progress after a week or two . Now I just have to listen to my own words and get back into build mode on my beast and my long over due neglected movers build . I have all of the trailers and pipe and even the decal kit , so there is no excuse other than the bloody heat wave we have been in for the past couple of weeks . Too hot makes me lazy !!! lol RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-16-2012 On second thoughts, you can keep that stick!! ![]() When it all boils down i think the word is, Motivation?
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Richard_2001 - 07-17-2012 Phil, WOW Mate!!!!!! You are really moving along on your Battlestar there and she is looking Fantastic! You are going to have to buy a 6 foot mirror as a base to show off all the underside detail you worked so hard on. Hopefully Charles will post pictures of our little project soon and you can see what I have been working on. ![]() Richard RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-17-2012 Thanks there Richard! Long time mate, hope all is well up there with you? Yeah It's changed a lil since i last spoke with ya, getting there piece by piece ever so slowly. I feel burnt out by it a little, last few nights i haven't really wanted to look at it. Hopefully this will only be a short term thing? RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 07-19-2012 That looks insane Phil! I have a couple of interstate mates over on the weekend who might be interested in seeing your work... Mike RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-19-2012 Thanks Mike! It's not that insane man and i really think your mates will be happy just seeing what you have been doing there. You are really getting stuck into it again there, good to see! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-22-2012 So after a week of no motivation to look at the build i hit it again yesterday. A little more was done at the front after the last pictures and before my week off from it all. The rest i did yesterday and a lil more earlier today. As you can see things are again not spot on but pretty close and it's looking about right so far. I may hit it a lil bit more later today but for now i'm just gonna sit on me arse for a bit..
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 07-23-2012 Christ Phil , when you do work on the ol girl , you get a shit load done !! Awesome progress mate . Excuse me now while I go glue some greeblies . I have just become inspired again !!! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-23-2012 As always, thanks there Ken! For the amount of hours i seem to throw at when i do, it's hard to notice where that time actually goes for the piddly amount that ends up on the build. Still it ever so slowly is getting there i guess. I can't believe a couple of fellas out there have been able to crank one of these out in around 3 years by themselves. Thats construction and detailing. Them guys are frakin good!! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-28-2012 Wasn't happy how things were looking so i stripped that last progress seen off of the aft end and re did. Still aint the greatest but i ain't doing it again. If i do you might as well call me, Mike!! LOL ![]() So after getting that all back on again i've been able to make a lil more progress with it all. The parts i was looking for i ended up just improvising and used parts that sorta look about right.Afterall, at the end of the day there will be plenty i'll need to substitute before it's all done. Anyway this where i'm now at with it. Just a few more parts in the scheme of things and then lord help me, a crap load of chips to finish up this trench area. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - dbhs - 07-29-2012 Its looking great Phil. Very inspiring work my friend. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 07-29-2012 Exactly what Doug said . Awesome work Phil !! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-29-2012 Thanks fellas!! Inspiration. I think we all need some of that at times. Well like before, just a FEW parts to go in this trench area (there is only a few to go this time) along with a crap load of them chips still and it'll be pretty much done.
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 07-30-2012 Sweet work again Phil, she's rolling along now mate! What are the big grey drop tanks from? You just know I'll be rejigging this are soon enough! Mike RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-30-2012 Thanks mate!! I'm actually ready for a break, a couple of days off from it now will be good. The two big drop tanks are from the Harrier kit. I used what is shown on the map. Somehow i believe you on re doing more!! ![]() RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - DarthDuck - 07-31-2012 I wasn't around for a long while now so I've basically missed this build of your's Phil. It's fucking amazing! I still can't quite fathom the amount of time, resources, research and dedication that it takes to make anything on this scale- yet I can surely recognize some sheer modeling greatness when I see it! Top notch mate!
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - t2sides - 07-31-2012 Speechless Phil, just Speechless!! I'm so jealous of you being able to get all those little details right and looking so good. Can't tell you how many parts I didn't either have or have ID'd all over this ship when I did mine. I sure miss those days, but I don't have the will that Mike has either to go back and re-doing it. This build just continues to be outstanding, keep up the great work!! You are gonna have one helluva sweet replica when she's all said and done! -Sean RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 07-31-2012 (07-31-2012, 08:27 AM)DarthDuck Wrote: I wasn't around for a long while now so I've basically missed this build of your's Phil. Thanks there DD. It has been a while. Figured you must have gone chasing them damn geese south during the winter or something. Now with the warmer weather you are back and it's good ta hear from ya again. Yeah this is what i've been playing with. Hope i can keep at it, it's not easy sometimes but then, nothing ever good is either. (07-31-2012, 11:02 AM)t2sides Wrote: Speechless Phil, just Speechless!! You are gonna have one helluva sweet replica when she's all said and done! Thanks Mate, coming from one of just a few to build one of these means a lot. I wouldn't be getting too fussed about your build, what you did is nothing short of spectacular! Hell it's one of just a few completed SS Battlestars to be ever done and that aint no easy task now. Mike is a tad crazy with what he's done with his but i can't knock him for wanting to achieve what he wants either. It has transformed dramaticly in the years i've known him and all for the better at that. I wouldn't be doing that to yours either if it was mine. For the info you had at the time it was as good as anyone was going to ever get with one. It was the best one of it's time, no if or butts about that! Us builders are so unbelievably fortunate to have the info we have and it's something all of us should be very thankful for. It just wouldn't be doable without it in my case. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-11-2012 Chip'n away... ![]() [attachment=11992] [attachment=11993] [attachment=11994] [attachment=11995] [attachment=11996] RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 08-12-2012 Man , that is lookin sweet !!! Phil , you are really cruising along at the ol girls underside details !!! Won't be long and you will wireing up lights . Keep them updates coming , you got me motivated to working on mine again , and I will soon have enough done to post an update of me own !! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-12-2012 Cheers Ken! Look forward to your next update, could use some of that inspiration myself lately. Not sure what i'll play with next on this. Every area i've touched isn't complete yet for one reason or another. Might go back to the belly/coffin and do a little more there again. RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 08-12-2012 Holy crap, that's some high end studio scale modelling right there! Just amazing Phil and hardly a resin casting to be seen! Yeah , sickening isn't it ! lol But she's a beaut !!!! ![]() ![]() RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 08-13-2012 Yeah, if he'd sacrificed a Sealab kit for those kitchen sinks under the nose I would have called the men in the white van! Or is it four Sealabs needed for the four sinks? Mike RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-13-2012 Cheers fellas! If i had it you would have been seeing orange!
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LeeS - 08-14-2012 WOWOWOW!!! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 08-15-2012 You should see this thing in the flesh Lee! It's so sharp I have the scars on my hands to prove it. Mike RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-15-2012 And some people are just soft skinned!! ![]()
RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 08-16-2012 Not me mate, I have plenty of scars from my Battlestar!:p Mike RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - qcfoundry - 08-16-2012 I don't meddle in the BSG universe, but do peek my head in the doorway occasionally. HOLY FK!, that is beautiful. hats off to the work!! RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-25-2012 Thanks QC! Nice ta have ya pop in to this universe! It's actually a combinded effort on that head. Only the detailing is my doing, the build was done by Charles Adams. So a bit more done on this today after again not touching it hardly for teh last week. Went back to something i started months ago and then put aside. Most of what you see was done back then but i did add a few more bits and the chips today. Bolier parts and Chicago parts are just sitting there still at present. The JPS/Leopold/Tirpitz pieces are now one assembly that is at this stage still removable. That idea came from Charles and at this stage is how i'll leave it. Overall it's turning out ok but i am a lil worried how it'll look when painted. Nearly everything was alrady used on the old build so theres like double gluing a plenty on most of the parts. Add that to the person who did the gluing and it starts getting scary really!! Time will tell! ![]() [attachment=12057] RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 08-26-2012 Those mods at the rear look abut right to me Phil. ![]() Sweet work as usual. If you reckon that's crap I'd like to see your stuff on a good day! Mike RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 08-26-2012 Looks top notch to me too Phil . Now throw some primer on that puppy !! lol RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - JAWS - 08-26-2012 Thats beautiful. No primer needed on this build. |
