RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-26-2012

Thanks fella's! Appreciate the kind words again.

The primer i am still holding off on, i actually like seing the build naked. Once it's painted that will be end of that look for ever so i'm just enjoying while i can..
Mike, you know me, i'm never happy with anything i do. This lid could be better. Just using unused parts would have made things a little neater without question and i should have got things placed a little better. Still hopefully once painted up it wont look too bad. Yeah those change outs look about right. One for sure and the other looks to be right also in my mind.

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - peza - 08-26-2012

eh up buddy i`m really impressed with ya build mym8,how long has it taken ya to get this far on a spotless build?peza

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-27-2012

Thanks peza!!

What you see has taken about 14 months and that is only because some of the sections were assembled for me before being sent down. The head only comes assembled for this kit but Charles also built the neck and engine section structures for me also to speed things along a bit. This detailing side of things is taking forever though but i guess thats about quarter to a third of the way there now. Plenty ta go still as you can see.

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 08-27-2012

Man, it's gonna be interesting to see our Battlestars sitting side by side isn't it? I'm really scared to see the shape differences.

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 08-27-2012

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 08-28-2012

Yeah, true that! Can't imagine not having a Battlestar on the bench. Id love to build a 6 foot Maquarrie Galactica and just have fun freestyle greebling.Smile

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 09-12-2012

Nother small update on the little progress that has been made with things since last time.

Little more completed on the undedrside since last posting of this area.

[attachment=12137]
Just a few more pieces added but it's looking more and more the part with each one.

Made a start also on the body lid. The big island castings sure have been a massive time saver with things.

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 09-13-2012

Sensational mate. Man, I leave him alone for a couple of weeks then he hits us with another great progress update like this! Looks like you, Ken and myself are locked in a furious building battle right now eh? Good to see some resin on there finally!

I have a couple of those mystery parts cast for you mate. They'll help finish up that neck area nicely!

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 09-13-2012

Holy Sh..@#%*..T !!! I would say that is a bit more than a little update Phil !
Looks bloody awesome too !!! Nice update indeed !!

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - dbhs - 09-13-2012

Spectacular work, mate.

I'm hoping we get to see your entire Galactica assembled without primer just to see it as near-complete as possible with all the greeblies in original color. That would be a sight !

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 09-13-2012

Thanks fella's!!

It's not a lot done compared to what a couple of you guys have been cranking out over the same time but every bit counts as ya's know!

Mike, will put those castings to good use, thanks! Whats a bit more now that theres this much resin on it? lol Still that don't mean ya can give up on trying to recall what that kit was. Who knows what else may have been in it also.

Ken, couldn't let you have all the limelight now!! lol

Doug, that would be cool, will see what happens there. At this stage though i'm just happy to plug away on it now and then and worry about paint at the end or there abouts. I'll probably need another year for the clean up after that primer does go down though.

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 09-14-2012

I reckon you're going at a reasonable pace Phil. One day I'll hit one of my six month breaks and you'll catch up. Hey, maybe one day we'll get to the finish line, put our models up on stands and primer them both at the same time? That would be an epic.day. What a cool photo opportunity!

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - padawan-builder - 09-16-2012

Phil,
Man, it just continues to look amazing. Can't get over how so clean everything looks; even while you are working on it. You probably have the only G that DOESN'T need a coat of primer to make everything look cool.

I have started working on mine again. Hope to post some pics soon. Have a couple of questions for you on the underside of your neck. Posting one of your pics with notes to explain.
1. can you identify which kit part A came from
2. do you have any pics of part B before it was covered. I don't have the peterbilt wrecker, but even in online scans, I don't see a part that looks even close, I have several of the other AMT 1/25 kits. Anything else a match or is it Wrecker or bust.

Thanks, you work is helping motivate me to keep going.

Mel

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 09-16-2012

Hey there Mel,

Trust me it's not as clean as it looks but thanks for the kind words just the same.

Good to hear from you again there and very happy to hear you are plugging away again on your own build. Hopefully you wil start up a thread here sometime soon?

So your questions then.

Part A i also took from the wrecker kit bit i cut and sanded it down to make it work. At the end of the day it's a simple shape with no detail so was not as anal about finding the correct part. Who knows, they may have done something similar as they did plenty of cutting and sanding on the original.

Part B is only found in the wrecker kit. I don't have any pictures of them sorry but i took this picture just then from the instruction sheet.

Hope that helps.

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - t2sides - 09-19-2012

Hey Phil,
Looking Simply AMAZING!!! Nice work on the updates, you are making a helluva impressive replica there!!

It's been so, so long, but I thought that part A was found in one of the Heller ship kits. OR, it was a suitable sub. Too foggy, but I thought that was found. Don't mean to send you on a goose chase, but might be worth checking if not already done. Sounds like the modified wrecker was a good sub as well.

Keep up the outstanding updates!!
-Sean

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 09-19-2012

I saw Phil's Battlestar again on Sunday and am still blown away at the precision of his work. Man, I can't get close to that quality level no matter how hard I try! It really looks amazing in person.

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 09-19-2012

Sean and Mike, thanks for the encouraging words once again mates!

Sean we'll see how it looks with some primer on it but if it comes out anywhere as clean looking as your build i am going to be very happy. I am pretty happy that parts wise thus far it is nearly 100% accurate but of course theres so much still unknown and at the end of the day i'll just be subbing out whatever is left.

I'm gonna look through me Heller boat now that you've brought it up. I didn't look too hard for that part just because it was a simple shape i guess and with a lil bit of pretty easy work it came out damn close i think.

Mike, c'mon it's ok but let's not over exaggerate!! lol

It was good seeing you again on the weekend and thanks for that little gift you brought around. Glued em on tonight and they do finish that bit off very nicely indeed!
Still need you to remember what that damn kit was though as who knows what eklse it may have contained? Theres still lots that need finding on this one afterall. You may have been sitting on a goldmine!????

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - padawan-builder - 09-25-2012

Hey Phil,
Looking for some more parts help on some of the ones you have on your coffin. PLEASE..... Smile

Mel

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - padawan-builder - 09-26-2012

It's doing it again.Sad

I posted some questions for Phil and it shows me as the last one to post, but the post itself does not show. Should I repost or just wait it out?

Mel

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 09-26-2012

Hopefully you can see it now Mel?

Will update the maps for this section soon but for now,

A. 1/24 Bandai M60A1
B. 1/450 Hasegawa Yamato

C,D & E are already mapped.

C & D is one part and it as well as E are all in the 88mm.

Smile

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 09-27-2012

Well after a small mishap with this piece a couple of weeks ago this lil piece of the puzzle is almost done.

Theres a few pieces still missing and a couple of those i just don't know or been able to find thus far. Will probably just have to sub em out in the end more than likely.

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 09-28-2012

Mate, you are smashing this build!!! Nice job again, that's looking incredibly sharp.

Up late again? Me too, this project is so addictive when motivation strikes.

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - darkimmitator - 09-28-2012

That's quite the nose job there Phil !! lol Nice clean work as usual sir !! keep em comming !!!

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - dbhs - 09-28-2012

Nice work, Phil. Man, that thing is super detailed. Has anyone ever done a count to see exactly how many individual parts are on it?

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - JAWS - 09-28-2012

Very nice mate.
I am so jelous of all these fantastic builds going on.

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 09-28-2012

Thanks again for the encouraging words everyone.

Smashing? It was more a case of braking actually!! lol
Again things should have been done a lil better but it's the story of everything i touch on it pretty much. I think my attitude towards it lately is that the original was never spot on or overly clean so as long as things are no worse things shouldn't look too bad hopefully?
Doug, haven't done a count but there is a few pieces that get used on it. Obviously some are pre cast onto the plate itself in my case though.
Jase, i think there is a few of us here that look forward to you getting stuck back into your own again when the time is right mate. Hopefully all the builds will amount to some motivation for you!

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 10-01-2012

Hoped ta get a little further with this next bit but for reasons this is as far as i've got with it all.

Theres a few things parts wise i dont know and haven't found. Will just improvise with those as i did with the pieces under the brass rod there as for the most part it's nothing too important.
Theres an area i'm not exactly sure how i'm seeing things when it comes to all the rods that run out from the Blue Devil part to the White Road Boss tank. I think i know what i'm seeing there but i'm not entirely sure either. At this stage i'll just do it how i think it is and hope that is about right. Anyway, heres where i'm at with it..

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 10-02-2012

Aw Phil, you're killing it mate!!! Pure Wombat precision right there guys. Looking awesome!

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - t2sides - 10-02-2012

WOW!!! That section looks fantastic Phil!! The bends in the wire look great! Very nice and clean work as usual!!! Love these updates!

-Sean

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 12-04-2012

After a little inspiration from a fellow member here i finally touched this thing again after what seems a couple of months. Theres been little motivation for it but things changed there over the last few nights. Still not much to show but thought i'd give ya's all a gander at things anyway. Tonight i found a few small pieces for the puzzle in this area and glued em on already. It's always a good feeling finding more things and i'll update the map very soon. Anyway, not perfect and far from it but to me it's got the look close enough just the same.Smile

damn nice job there Phil ! Lookin awesome .

Jealous.....

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - padawan-builder - 12-05-2012

VERY Jealous.

Looking awsome Phil, as usual. Keep those updates coming. Seeing others progress keeps me going (that is once I get past the initial discouragement and thoughts of trashing mine as it is no comparison). Smile

Mel

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Titon - 12-05-2012

Awesome work sir! Top notch.

Smile

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 12-05-2012

Thanks for the encouraging words once again there fellas!! Been a lil flat with it for a bit but hopefully i'll be on it a bit more again, it can be a daunting thing if i look too far ahead. I'm keen to get more done with this bit so thats a good sign and then will see where i head next, plenty of choices there!! For now though i WANT to play around with it and i have been like that for a while.

To those so could Jealous,

Simon, only for a lil bit longer if that is the case..Wont be too long and you'll be enjoying your own build over there which hopefully, we'll see here with the other SS Battlestars that are on the go. Look forward to watching your own journey!!

Mel, rubbish!!! Your build is looking great and once theres some paint down you'll be surprised how good it looks. Just keep at it and likewise keep the updates coming, i need as much inspiration as i can get! Now what ya got ta show??

Thanks again everyone!!

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 12-09-2012

This is about as far as i can go with this bit for now, like everywhere else it'll still needs finishing at some stage. Hopefully sometime betwen then and now the last parts that need IDing can be found. If not i'll just improvise as best i can at a later date. Things could be neater and sharper but then, they could be worse also...Wink

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 12-11-2012

Yes, yes it did buddy. Holy crap, that detail area looks bloody incredible! Damn, I built that upper and lower raised section from TB1 and could have used railgun parts I had the whole time. Rework time again LOL.Big Grin

Gods, that is precision work Phil. Stuff it, you reworked my Movers, now I'm handing you my Galactica for some Wombat lovin'.

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 12-11-2012

Thanks mate!!
Those rail gun parts were a PITA but yeah you had em all the bloody time.
LOL, Precision??? Man it's far from spot on and hell, half the time i can't even really tell if i'm seeing something or not when it came to those bloody chips. I am happy though as this was an area that was testing me just a little but it's good enough. I tell ya, i can't believe you keep reworking that thing, once is enough!!! Still WTF, if you must!! LOL

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 12-11-2012

I've just finished boxing it up for delivery to your place tomorrow. FYI.

Mike

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - Wombat - 12-12-2012

Are you planning to change the title to 25+ years in the making?Huh

RE: SS Battlestar....attempt II - LastBattlestar - 12-12-2012

If it looks as good as yours, I can wait. Smile

Did it arrive safely at your place today or did it fall off the back of the courier's ute?

Mike
