18" SSD EXECUTOR - JAWS - 11-08-2009 This is an 'Arvery Models Productions' kit I picked up when starting back into Sci Fi models. My poor mathematics actually made me think this was bigger. Its a good little kit thats just about done now. It didn't take long to assemble or paint. I have bought a plaque from Kevin at http://resinilluminati.com/showthread.php?t=2114 to mont on the base which is the final part needing attention. RE: 18" SSD EXECUTOR - JAWS - 11-08-2009 Nearly finished. Just need a nice base to mount the plaque on & an acrylic case to keep the dust off. RE: 18" SSD EXECUTOR - JAWS - 12-03-2009 Well this is taking up space sitting around Ive really just been lazy not mounting it. I scored some nice 'Hard Wood' routed the top & it should do ok. Its bloody heavy wood! The two bits of steel I'll use to mount it at two spots Im just a bit worried to use a single mount because of the shape. If anyone thinks it would be ok to just use one speak up. The plaque will look sweet in the corner Might give the wood a dark or blackish stain & some lacquer. If anyone has some ideas to make this little model look kool Im all ears
RE: 18" SSD EXECUTOR - dbhs - 12-03-2009 That's going to look sweet. You're right, I think the base would look better darker. I think the 2 mounts will definitely make it more stable. Are you going to glue the model to the posts and the base or just drill holes and let it sit on them? If you just drilled holes about 1.5cm into the base and the model you probably don't need to glue it. Then pop it off whenever. RE: 18" SSD EXECUTOR - Wombat - 12-03-2009 That will look good Jase. Another option would be to get some thicker than the rod's,clear block, and get it either laser cut or cut it yourself into the shape's of the forward and aft section of the hull. This way you won't need to drill into the bottom of the kit and it'll still be pretty sturdy but easily removed from the stand. Just an idea anyway. RE: 18" SSD EXECUTOR - JAWS - 12-03-2009 Thanks boys Check this out. I really like how its looking. The way its displayed seems to have made the model look alot better than it did. Ive used two mounts just drilled into the wood & the just drilled the holes in the underside to do exactly what Doug suggested. Your suggestion was a good one too Phil. Im going to give this like a black stain which will look really good I think & tie in with the model, the steel supports & the plaque. Its only small but she's nearly 'Finished' ![]() Drilled holes [attachment=947] Hammered in supports [attachment=948] Drilled holes with Ozito hand tool(Like Dremel) [attachment=949] Then drilled correct size holes with cordless drill [attachment=950] Attached to supports
RE: 18" SSD EXECUTOR - Wombat - 12-03-2009 It works just fine in my book! I think that black stain will look great as well mate! RE: 18" SSD EXECUTOR - jon pollock - 06-29-2011 nice. Vader's 19 km long battlewagon, you did one of my alltime favs well. |
