Death Star Tiles - trooper1389 - 12-05-2011

OK this is where I'm going to start. My goal is to build the death star tiles, then cast them and make an entire wall on my sons room into the D/S and if possible with my wife's permission, my office.

A buddy of mine gave me this a long time ago and I dug it up from storage last week, when I got a hold of a sphere 36 inches in diameter.

2 things I'm going to work on the wall and office with original size tiles, then on the cylinder, i want to shrink them to 1.5 to 2 inches to place on the sphere.

here are the pictures of the tile. I'm looking for a box with other things he gave me that have some more goodies.

Hope this will be a great fun adventure for you and me.

now make them smaller I found a chemical that will cast very well and once it's dry it will reduce to 25% of the original piece

here is a pictue of some parts that I used that chemical on.

The ones on the left are the smaller parts and the ones on the right are the original once.

They are the air rators, chin piece and compad for the episode 3 helmets i make.
Here is a picture of the 36 inch future death star... I'm thinking on making this my center Chanel at home Smile

Enjoy guys.

RE: Death Star Tiles - JAWS - 12-06-2011

Hey nice Death Star Tiles.
I haven't seen those around before.
I have some recasted Icons tiles I had thought to do very similar to your wall idea.
I was going to stick them to my sons ceiling.
Hoe big is that tile section you have?
You should post your props & costums in the new section.
It needs some more kool stuff in there.
Thanks for posting.

RE: Death Star Tiles - trooper1389 - 12-06-2011

The tile is 6" I don't know I'd its the correct size got it from a friend some time ago.

Also I don't know it its true he said that he has "an original copy movie used" of a x wing and y wing fighters and pilots. ". I'll try and get pictures of them and post them here.

I traded a helmet for the tiles I have 4 or 5 of them and they are two different scales. I'll look for them. em and need to dig further in storage for them.

RE: Death Star Tiles - JAWS - 12-07-2011

Oh my god!
Im going to ask some really blatant questions.
Who is this marvelous person?
Is he a member of any boards?
Can we get castings of any of his stuff?
More pictures please!!!!!!!!

RE: Death Star Tiles - joewhite - 12-09-2011

Dude!!!! I'll also take castings of anything SS TIE and X-Wing!!!!

BTW....does your friend have any connection with JMJmodels? Funny cause JMJ are my initials. Anyway, just thought of it when I saw the Y-Wing molds and remembered that JMJmodels never released their Y-Wing after the TIE Bomber. This somehow reminded me of it.

RE: Death Star Tiles - trooper1389 - 12-09-2011

LOL... I called him today and asked him if we could cast them parts he said ok but not till next year. He also reminded me that I have the mold for th y wing main body. So I need to look at my storage to sign it up. Will see on everything he has and you guys can help me is the. Pieces. One thing OS he does have the entire molds for the u wing.

RE: Death Star Tiles - JAWS - 12-10-2011

Ok so your freakin me out big time.
I have to ask this for clarity.
Those are moulds & castings of 'actul' ILM models?

Also Joe who is JMJModels?
Remember im still sorta new so take it easy on me if this is another stupid question.

RE: Death Star Tiles - joewhite - 12-10-2011

Jase, that's not a stupid question actually. JMJmodels produced a TIE Bomber resin kit back sometime around 04-05 I think. You can check out the one I built....Joe's Models. It isn't entirely SS accurate but it was a pretty nice kit with most of the donor kit parts being molded and cast separately in raw form so you had to modify them yourself. I wasn't fully aware of that at the time which might come through in my text. It was probably the kit that sparked my SS addiction. They announced a 1/48 Y-Wing release but never actually did. Trooper1389's pic of a smaller Y-Wing mold reminded me of it for some reason.

I'm also interested in knowing if those are actual canon donor part copies. I was thinking not but I don't want to jump to conclusions and I haven't had the time to sit down and compare these pics with reference pics.

By the way, Trooper1389, props to you for hooking up that kid! I forgot to comment on that before! Also, you've got me thinking about a DS tile border but only along the top edge of the wall near the ceiling and around the room....much like those decorative wallpaper borders...only awesome!

Joe

RE: Death Star Tiles - swpropmaker - 12-22-2011

Those are some interesting cast pieces in the photos.... The TIE parts are Icons as well as the X-Wing bits and the one I have concern for is well... I know my Y Wing anywhere... am a wondering who i gave permission for the hull and Y wing parts to be molded and released. Come to think of it I did not. I am 100% positive the mold of the Y body in the picture was taken from my solid body Y Wing kit. Since i never loaned the pattern to anyone or gave permission to use it.... I'm very interested to know who the owner is of the Y wing hull molds... the Y part molds are from a model producer in California... he made some molds of the Y small parts before i recieved all the stuff. The molds are set up just like the no shrinks I got from him. He did not have any permission to give those molds to anyone. The hull is 100% a remold one of my Y wing hulls. I can tell by detail and cross support rod placement in the mold... I have a few "tells" in the pattern so close up photographs of the wings on the hull mold. I can prove it is from my pattern.

Please get back me me on this....

Steve

Thanks guys and Sorry for a bad start but know that I for one dont Like recasters and don't need to be branded as one.
