BSG Viper with Digital Camouflage - dbhs - 11-20-2009

This viper was done as part of the RI group build. It's got a digital
camouflage pattern paint job and decals that were done just for the
group build. It's substantially done but I need to take some final photos.

Shit a brick!!Big Grin

Mate, now that's bloody different alright. It really does look like you got the result you was after there and i'm sorta speachless seeing it done in this scheme. Not in a bad or negative way,it's pretty bloody awesome the effect you achieved there. It's just different to what i'm use to seeing!Wink

For being a BSG fan,it's pretty sad that i never really checked that thread out over at RI!Confused

Good work there bud!!

Great concept!

RE: BSG Viper with Digital Camouflage - dbhs - 11-21-2009

Thanks guys.

It is really different and I think it an odd look on this ship design. I tried adding the wing stripes on to get a little of that 'viper' look back in it but it just didn't work with the camo pattern. I really just wanted to try doing a digital camouflage pattern on something and thought this group build would be a good opportunity. This kit is just 20 bucks so I wasn't worried about trying something different.

You should run through the thread on RI when you get a chance. Only about 4-5 guys have finished their builds but a lot of others are in progress. There's a lot of really good custom vipers in there. 79 Daytona's Scarlet Viper is REALLY nice with a great paint job and weathing and Shadowknight did a lit-up cockpit and engines.

I do regret that I never got to participate in that group build.
And that camo just rawks big time there!

KUDOS!Cool

cool, is that just painted?

RE: BSG Viper with Digital Camouflage - dbhs - 11-25-2009

Yeah.

I'm still having depth perception problems after staring at it while doing all the masking.

RE: BSG Viper with Digital Camouflage - scratchy - 11-25-2009

Nice paint job, never in a million years would I have done or thought of something like that! That's just too cool.

It still looks great! I love the paint scheme. I gave this thread five stars! I wish more people would do stuff like this. Wink

RE: BSG Viper with Digital Camouflage - dbhs - 12-19-2009

I'd do a camo paint scheme again if I found the just the right subject for it (but not too soon). It was very time consuming but not too difficult. I used a camo pattern that U-Boater had uploaded on RI. The hardest part was staying consistent with the pattern and not losing my place on the model so the effect came out right. If anyone really wants to know more specifics I can go into more detail.

Thankfully, it was a fairly easy model to do this on. The wings are flat and the fuselage is a tube without too much variation. If this had more 3-dimensional curves keeping the grid straight would have been really hard.

RE: BSG Viper with Digital Camouflage - 427 Cobra - 12-19-2009

Well, not only would it throw off the grid texture,it wouldn't flow as nicely as this does. You need a uniform shape to pull this off,and you did it with flying colours (pun intended). Tongue

I finally got this one completed and photographed.
I'll post the rest of the finished pics in the right spot.
