1/24th A-Wing WIP - DarthDuck - 11-21-2009

Howdy all,
Just became registered here and would like to share what is on the bench.
Added lighting to the instruments. The upper four flash colors while the lower three flash on/off red.

And the main display screens are backlit a diffused blue.

The engine cans were prepped to accept a jumbo LED which was tinted amber around the base. Here's a light test.

The side hulls were reworked with tubing to more closely match the filming mini.

New guns were made as well as the gunmounts upon the body. This area was carved out to bring back the undercuts and new details will be added back in.

The backplate was repaired.

And a base was whittled up.

After some redetailing and rescribing went ahead and added the remaining parts to move towards paint.

So, there's a quick "catchup" and from here I'll rescribe some panel lines and move towards final assembly and paint.

Damn Im glad your back! I just love your work Duck. I have some lighting coming to install soon & I think I may need your assistance with advice. Another great build mate. I just love the AWing. My sons getting a Hasbro AWing for Christmas! I have to say Don they cannons look deadly!

Holy shit,you've been quite busy there since the last time i seen you posting stuff on another board.
Bloody incredible work there as alway's bud.I really like the mod's you've done with this one.Them cannon's look damn good bud as does the mod's you've done with the body.The lighting is looking good and sound's cool that it switches colour's and flashes on off there in the cockpit.Those display also add to the whole thing,it's gonna look pretty sweet when all done and finished.

Actually, I'll be hoping to make it look like the studio pieces we've seen? Standard white, red and kinda scarred? Wink

Them lights are kind of "entertaining" all by themselves in person. Um, or at least they are to this duck? Blush

I even replaced the lil grain of wheat bulb in the rocker switch (on the stand) just to add a lil more "pop" to it. Them engines can double as flashlights if you ever get stranded in the dark! Tongue

Don,

Can you share with us how you make the really thin metal rings on your guns? Yours looks so clean, square and like they came out of a professional machine shop.

I've used a Dremmel cut off wheel to cut the piece. I file down the tubing before cutting it so at least one end is square. I made a half-assed sliding jig to try to get straight cuts but it isn't too accurate on parts this small. Then after I cut it they are really too small to file down easily on the cut side.

If you can share your technique it would be great. Thanks.

Love those guns! Looking good. I like how you filled in the details at the back edge of the fuselage on both sides - that's something I tried to replicate too. I forgot those bent hose parts...have to get back on that.

And it needed some more extras. Wink

Wrapping up some final details caused me to notice those elbow pipes from rear fuselage bulkhead to engine cans. While they were just "fine" I wanted a little 'more' so chopped up some tubing and put it on the ends.

And it's all the little touches like those that make such a big difference with the end piece.
Nice little bit of extra work there DD and i'm not that suprised that you'd do such a thing either.

Yep thats Duck. Just pushes the absolute boundries just a little further Nort South East & west with every build. Love it! Think I already said it but "Im glad your back Duck!".

This one entered the paint shop last night and got it's base white so soon I hope to share more. Wink

I'll be shooting to fashion the paint after the SW tour in Madrid. It looks different with some of the patch panels and battle damage than other shots I've seen including the LFL archive photos. I have no clue how many studio models went out amongst the masses on tour? But I thought that one rather distinctive and more visually interesting. Cool

Of course that translates into more fucking paint work? Rolleyes

This is close to the time Duck seems to disapear. No flyin the coupe Duck Man! Oh just a little off to the rear topic change-"What happenned with that Tie you were buildin?", I don't recall seein that thing completed? Oh 1 more a certain other 'Y'ellow build that was on the bench??? Cough em up Duck!

This one got bumped up in the build line. After completion, you'll see those two get revived as well as new projects brought forth. Wink

I can totally accept that excuse seems I too have a few on the bench that haven't even been cleaned up yet. Just thought in your absence you may have completed these.

I woulda thought by now you woulda had it trained well enough not to have to worry about that,but obviously not!
Mate,I'd be chaining down the rest of the tool!Like now that they've seen how easy it is to get away,they'll be queing up for a quick exit there! Confused

I came across a "spare" metal ruler that I had bought awhile back, for just such times!

He'll come home to find the locks have been changed! Wink

The A-Wing now sits in white and red! No WIP shots though since masking tape and overspray ain't exactly glamorous! Next come the various 'patch panels' and maybe after that I'll show what it's looking like. Cool

True is Apophis's statement. I am very visual as we all must be. Every picture gets studied to ascertain techniques. What you may think is unimportant & trivial is anothers treasure chest of learning. Don't hop the skip & finish with the jump!

The masking and paint seem to have gone very well there Don!But this thing really does need that weathering thrown on it by ya.Clean just don't look right and it'll be interesting seeing what you throw at it to give it a worn battered look.I've seen your weathering on other subjects and this one i'm sure will be no different in that it'll look just outstanding at the end!!

Next update should be a real bloody ripper! Big Grin

Panel lines, when consistent enough (I rescribed alot and even moved a few) are easiest (IMHO) with a 'sludge wash'. Cool
