Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 03-29-2012 This is the start of my salzo viper aquired from Jase ( thanks man ) Plans are to light the engines and to have a cascading light in the cockpit . Also plans are for a 3/4 armature to support and display the model as a fair amount of weight has to be supported with this model . This is a beautifuly casted model ,and anyone who gets one is in for a real treat . I started by drilling a channel for the armature and two pilot holes for the solid alluminum guide pins to keep everything in alignment . Then I had to hog out extra material to make room for the tee mount . ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 03-29-2012 Wow looking good Kenny. Love the armature. This is going to br great. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - Scott Graham - 03-30-2012 The castings look good. You're an ace at the casting biz Jason! RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 03-30-2012 Scott sorry that is a Salzo casted kit. It was from my collection. I tradedit with Kenny. I can guarantee you my casting is almost as good though. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 03-30-2012 I have some of jases casted resin parts ,and they are very good !! RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - Wombat - 04-01-2012 Off ta a great start there Ken. It's a great kit which many more will be able to enjoy thanks to Jase picking up the masters to this. You're build thread will be pretty useful for those starting out on this one to follow. Can see you've already nutted it out and it's coming together real well there. A nice addition to your fine collection when done for sure! RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 04-02-2012 Thanks guys . Here are a few few more progress pics and a light test . I found three small led flashlights that amazingly the light assembly fit inside the engine nacells . The flashlight also provided a power pack and batteries !! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cockpit tub illumination , a yellowish green hue . ![]()
RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - Wombat - 04-02-2012 Good bit of improvisation there. Looks like they work well for the job in hand.cool: RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 04-02-2012 Thanks Phil . Still trying to make up mind as to what paint scheme to paint this bird . Leaning towards a Pegasus squadron , but still not 100 % sure yet . RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - Wombat - 04-03-2012 100% sure, is there such a thing in this game? A Pegasus bird would obviously be very fitting considering you are building the Beast there already. Theres nothing stopping ya from picking up another down the track and doing the other also if you so choose. Choices, choices....LOL RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 04-03-2012 Damn thats looking sick dude. Thanks Jase ,having a blast building this kit .should have some more updates in the next day or two I plan to have this finnished by the middle of next week so it is ready for a sci fi contest on the April 14 and 15 weekend ! And like you said if I wish I had of did a different paint scheme , I can always get another one !! Absolutely love your build of this , by the way !!! RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 04-04-2012 Man I love "the cockpit tub illumination", fresh. Keep it up mate. Its goodto see another Viper get made. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - Cylon-Knight - 04-09-2012 Let there be light!!! Perfect work, darkimmitator. Perfect! RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 04-16-2012 Some more updates Replaced all resin tubes with brass ones . Hollowed out the nose of the fuselage and added a scratch built intake screen . ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Another light test before paint and assembly ![]() Well I was running severly out of time to finnish this model before the 14th of april for the spring Model show and contest at the Shearwter aviation museum. So I put a drive on to finnish and forgot to take pics of the remaining progress . I actually finnished the model two hours before the contest started ( the time it took to drive to the museum ). The effort was worth it as my M1A1 Abrams tank took 2nd place in the wwII armor category and the Viper took 1st in Sci Fi . The icing on the cake was being awarded Best of Show for the Viper !! I was stoked to say the least ! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 04-16-2012 WOW! Go Kenny. That is some swift work you pulled mate. I love the work with the rear pipes. They don't come attached to the back plate anymore in the kit. I add 1/16 Piping for the builder to do it. Wastage prevention. I also used tubing for the gun supports so can be hollow when sanded correctly for open barrels. Looking good buddy. Now get back to the Movers & the Gal. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - Cylon-Knight - 04-16-2012 BEST OF SHOW & 1st in Sci-Fi - Congrats!! It is easy to see why, the only thing better would be a REAL Viper! SO SAY WE ALL
RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - Wombat - 04-16-2012 Congratulations on the build there,Ken. Sounds like ya was up against it to get it done on time for the show but it was worth the rush seeing them two awards you picked up. Bit of nice recognition for the work even if they didn't understand how fine ya was pushing things to get it there. Looks to have a pretty clean look for a viper but i take it this was the look you was chasing rather than the fully over used dirty look. Was that weathering effect around the panels created using an airbrush? Have never tried to do anything like that yet but maybe someday i'll give that a try. Only thing that i can see that could use some adjusting would be that rear piece that you did that fine bit of brass work on. That should be a lot further aft than how ya have it now. It may be something you can perhaps adjust but if not then just leave it mate. Overall it turned out great though!
RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 04-17-2012 Thanks gents for the kind words . She still needs a little more tweeking ( thanks again Phil ) and weathering and battering and possibly some decaling . Now that there is no build pressure ,I will pick away at it in between my movers and beast build . RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 04-17-2012 Uh! I see what Phil has said. The butt plate is in way too far. You sanded it down didn't you Kenny. If you need a new one to fix it I will send you one. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 04-17-2012 I may be able to salvage this one Jase . if I do muck it up though I will P.M. you though. I know you are extremely buisy with your newly aquired Salzo kits , but have you given any more thought to that SPECIAL viper we talked briefly about ? Send me a P.M. mate , when you get a chance . RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - LastBattlestar - 04-18-2012 Top job on the Viper Kenny and congrats for the trophies! I like your version very much as I'm a big fan of variations on familiar subjects. I'm still waiting for someone to do a.purple.and orange squadron scheme.: Maybe that will be up to me? ![]() Mike RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - dbhs - 04-18-2012 Congrats on the awards !! Well deserved. It looks fantastic. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 04-18-2012 Kenny i already have spares cast up. Its no problem. Yes we will be doing your project very shortly mate. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 04-18-2012 Thanks everyone for the kind words ... greatly appreciated , all !!! Mike .. I almost did the stripes in Blue Angel Blue !!! I decided on Chevy engine red in Modelmaster arcrylic as it looked like that orange /red color of the original because of the fact that this model was going to be judged and I wanted it to be recognised as close to the theme of original . But i agree a differentcolor stripe package would be interesting to see applied to one of these ! RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 04-29-2012 Howd ya go with that butt plate? RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 04-29-2012 All fixed Jase ! I will post pics up later tonight. RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 05-07-2012 Here are the pics of the butt plate relocation . I had it epoxied to far forward between the engine nacelles . all fixed now . Added a few more lighting pics as well . ![]() ![]() ![]()

RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - darkimmitator - 05-07-2012 Thanks Phil .Dodgie eyes or not ,they picked out the fact that my butt plate was too far forward . lol Thanks mate . RE: Salzo SS Viper Mark 1 - JAWS - 05-08-2012 Nice Kenny. Looks great |
