Another 32" Falcon - Vos - 06-12-2012

I've decided to embark on a second SS 32" Falcon...this time spending more time on it and trying to get the detailing as accurate as I can.

I've had 3 layers of 2mm aluminium water-jet cut to make up the basis of the model. Between these layers I will sandwich a 9mm MDF structure. I also have other structural parts cut.

This is going to be quite a slow build.

Cheers

Neil

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Apophis - 06-12-2012

So, is this an aluminum falcon? lol, i just had to say that!
Sorry

RE: Another 32" Falcon - darkimmitator - 06-12-2012

An interesting medium to start this build , for sure !

RE: Another 32" Falcon - dbhs - 06-12-2012

Cool. Damn, that's going to strong.
As I don't know exactly how you're assembling it I'm Curious why you need MDF in the middle. mDF is very heavy. Seems like the aluminum would be strong enough even if laminated with some sort of rigid foam in between.

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Vos - 06-13-2012

Sure, MDF is heavy if you use a lot of it. I won't be sandwiching solid sheets between the aluminium layers...just something like a 10mm wall, here and there to allow me to join the aluminium sheets together.

RE: Another 32" Falcon - JAWS - 06-20-2012

Interesting attack on this build Neil.
Looking forward to seeing the base structure unfold.

RE: Another 32" Falcon - kbilly - 06-24-2012

So cool to see so much new interest in falconry at the moment.

The aluminium and mdf structure should be very strong, look forward to seeing this come together.

I got a bit done on my new one this week...

So far I've collected around 80 of the kits I need. The only resin on this will be the Entex parts.

Thanks!

RE: Another 32" Falcon - JAWS - 07-08-2012

Going to be hard to improve on the first one Neil.
Other than accurate details in some place she's a splendid first go mate.
Looking forward to this build.
Well I look forward to all builds.

I've made a fair amount of progress, working on the model during my lunch breaks at work. The top and sidea are almost done.

RE: Another 32" Falcon - darkimmitator - 09-07-2012

Wow , a boat load of progress achieved there !! Lookin very good there so far .Very good in deed !!!

RE: Another 32" Falcon - LastBattlestar - 09-07-2012

Wow, wow, wow!

Do you have a rough idea of the cost of the donor kits Neil? With the Galactica, it's multiple upon multiple of the same kit, but the Falcon doesn't look too bad in that regard. When looking at your build pics and all that lovely white styrene, I get super inspired to build a Falcon again! Top job!

How did you build the cockpit?

Mike

RE: Another 32" Falcon - peza - 09-08-2012

eh up buddy,i think my big toes just shot up in my boots,,that looks mint mym8..keep it up ace it looks well smart!pezaBig Grin

RE: Another 32" Falcon - JAWS - 09-09-2012

Holy macrel thats looking fantastic.
You have had some practice at this though.
Lol!!!
Thanks for sharing this build Neil.
I like the MDF arches.
She will be solid.

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Vos - 09-10-2012

Cheers guys,
Mike, I've spent a little over £2000 on kits so far and still have a couple of spendy ones still to get. The only resin on this is the Entex Porsche (and castings of my docking bay and exhaust port patterns). The cockpit was vacformed over a turned buck.

Here is my kit stash for this build...

RE: Another 32" Falcon - daverep - 09-10-2012

Wow...nice! I'm about halfway there with my donor kits. Got a question...where do the X-wing parts go and which kit parts?

Looking fantastic!
--Dave

RE: Another 32" Falcon - LastBattlestar - 09-10-2012

I appreciate the kit info Neil. I'm no stranger to moulding and casting stuff for my Galactica, so I could bring the cost down considerably for the Falcon.Smile I'm waiting to see how the Mensaboy Falcon turns out, but there's nothing like cutting the styrene to make the build more satisfying!

Mike

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Wombat - 09-11-2012

Your first build looked incredible and this new one looks like it's well on the way to being equal to that at the very least.
Thats some really nice looking work on this new build. Everything from the first stages to your latest updates is nothing but impressive. Theres something about seeing these builds prior to paint that just oozes coolness when it's such fine looking work.

Awesome job thus far!!

btw, nice kit stash also!!!

RE: Another 32" Falcon - JAWS - 09-11-2012

Niiice.
Just love those donors.
Seems to be the start of a droid there Neil.
Busy busy.
So is this going to be a totally kit encrusted beauty Neil?
This may be the closest to the original anyone has built yet.
Not without the help of all the work everyone has put in on this project past & present.
This may even be more accurate than the Master Replicas by actual donor detailing.
The back end just looks incredible mate.
Im blown away on the beauty of all the parts being actual......
More pics please.

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Vos - 09-16-2012

Here is another pic of the back.

I've moved on a bit this week.

The top is almost done now and in primer. I need to add the microstrip around the perimeter of the dish and finish the gun. The sides and recesses are still missing some parts as are the inside of the jaws. I'll flip her over next week and start on the underside.

Daverep, I've used x-wing parts for the 'heat sinks' on the gun barrels.

Of course, I couldn't have done any of this without the incredible IDing and parts maps done by members of this community. Cheers.

RE: Another 32" Falcon - peza - 09-16-2012

eh up buddy, lookin sweet mym8,if mine looks half as good as yours,i`ll be very happy!top marks.....cheers peza

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Wombat - 09-16-2012

It's a bit of a shame seeing that in primer now but it's still looks fantastic!

You're really getting stuck into it and it's coming along nicely, very nicely indeed!

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Guy Cowen - 09-20-2012

Gob smacking mate, not bad for a lunch break build :-)

RE: Another 32" Falcon - Junk Pilot - 09-26-2012

Is that tube a Plastruct tube and if so do you know the catalogue/product number?
