Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - REL - 08-02-2012 45" long. Thanks for looking. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm working on the neck now. First make cross sections out of plexiglass. ![]() Then fill them in and sculpt them to shape, in this case a combo of 15lb rigid foam and bondo. ![]() Then vac form styrene over them so I have something to detail. I did this twice because of the layered details. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - JAWS - 08-02-2012 WO-OW. That is a beautiful build Rich. Now Im not a masive Star Trek fan, as much as I loved growing up with Captain Kirk. The models were what kept me interested cause they were nice & somewhat realistic. But this model has always been up there on the awsome builds list. The work youve done on the detail is fantastic. I simply can not wait to see how you splash those amazing greens & colors through this build. The original just has a fenominal paint work. I think you can pull that off if anyone can. Thanks for posting. RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - Wombat - 08-03-2012 Not much of a Trek fan either but i know good work when i'm looking at. This thing is looking just incredible!! The size, detail and cleaness of it all leaves no doubt how good it will all look when done. Outstanding work, REL! RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - REL - 08-04-2012 Thank you very much. I also have to credit this site and its great kit scan section. I ID'd quite a few parts and I can't thank you enough. I'm working more on the nacelles.
RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - dbhs - 08-04-2012 Fantastic work, Rich. Any chance you will ever do the Quonos One version of this in Studio Scale? I'd love to do that or see it done. I love the detailing and painting on that version too. You'd be close to it making that one easier with all the leg work doing the masters for the vac-forming for this one. -Doug RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - REL - 08-05-2012 I'm actually making both versions. The K'tinga first, which I'll mold the major parts, then use the castings to do the ST VI version. More on the nacelles
RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - JAWS - 08-05-2012 Sweet. Must say its great to see some Star Trek builds on the site. The sites heavy on SW & BSG so to see some Gerry Anderson, Star Trek work etc etc is a nice change One thing about your work REL is it always looks so clean & precise. We see the same even in your moulding style. Cheers mate keep up the good work for us to enjoy. RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - REL - 08-18-2012 Thank you. More on the nacelles ![]() While looking at this pic of the studio model I noticed that the generators on the impulse deck didn't use ribbed styrene sheet but each individual baffle was cut from styrene. In the pic you can see where part of it broke and you can see the spacer. So I'm in the process of doing the same thing. ![]() With the parts mocked up. ![]()
RE: Studio Scale K'tinga (lots of pics) - Wombat - 08-18-2012 Jaw dropping stuff, REL! Your work sure is impressive in every way. Cleaness and detail are first class! Nice spot on the baffles. Already what you have there looks so right comparing with the picture with those slight variances in gaps. Excellent work as always! |
