Buck Rogers Scorpion - steve36uk - 09-27-2012

This is a model I've had running over at RI for a while it's one of the guest ships from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century - the Scorpion or Gnat fighter.
One of Universal Hartland's creations it uses a Fujimi 1/48 F14 and Revell 1/32 Huey Cobra with bits of Harrier,M60a1 and various other kits thrown in.

The original aim was to have a detailed cockpit rather than the black painted canopy of the miniature but stress fractures in the glazing put paid to that. Two White jumbo LED's provide Engine effects.

Very nice looking project . Going to have to break out the buck rogers box set and watch for this ship . I can't seem to remember it ?

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - t2sides - 09-29-2012

Ohh man is that COOOOOOL!!!!

Great project Steve, looks really, really great!!

Gotta be fun chopping up the kits and making this thing come to life!!

Looking forward to more updates, I'm sure the finished product is gonna be amazing!

It was in at least the following episodes, as a bad-guy space fighter:

Planet of the Slave Girls

Plot to Kill a City

Return of the Fighting 69th

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - steve36uk - 09-30-2012

Thanks Joe yes those are the ones. Cheers for the kind words guys-yes it is fun chopping up the kits-I think she's one of the best designs from BR but she's also a bitch as there's very little ref-the two battle buck pics, some small res pics on the Universal Hartland site and all the screencaps I can pull and process thru Photoshop

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - steve36uk - 10-10-2012

Still creeping along - fill,sand,prime.sand,fill....
Building up the mysterious brackets that link the missiles to the wing - lord knows what the original used but I'm pleased with these so far - two smaller ones to mount in front of these plus two stub ones to connect these two to the harrier pods.

Man that looks cool! A hint of A10 Warthog badassery about it too, very tough looking ship. Love it!

Mike

Wicked fresh buils Steve.

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - steve36uk - 11-22-2012

Little bit more done-upper barrels for the turret soldered up from brass also a representation of the undercart like bit that goes on the big "radiator" on the underside.

Detailing on these miniatures always amazes me - lots of nice techie bits from 88's,Leos,8 rads etc.....but a bloody soldiers knap sack??? On a Space ship??

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - jedimaster - 11-22-2012

Looks sweet...... Knapsacks nothin. There's a whole soldiers arm on the ISD.

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - Tsophika - 11-22-2012

Haha, I love those touches. There's an infantry backpack on the Falcon too.

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - Wombat - 11-22-2012

The G has a few things also that has me asking out of all the parts why did you use those.. LOL

This build looks fantastic!! The design is right up there with coolness and badass rolled into one. Some really nice clean looking work with those latest touches shown. It's coming together nicely and looking sharp!!

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - Apophis - 11-23-2012

awesome Steve!

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - LastBattlestar - 11-23-2012

I'm loving this model Steve! Hey, the knapsack could well be a toolkit for spacewalk repairs, hey?Smile

The Galactica has a few German helmets glued on under the bay's and painfully obvious differential housings all over it, so I wouldn't complain about anything.Smile

Mike

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - steve36uk - 11-23-2012

LOL - cheers guys - not just the sack, its the axe on one side and shovel on the other as well,on the other hand to make the nose tip I used a tin helmet from the Quad so since that's where the sack n tools came from as well may just be right...

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - steve36uk - 03-18-2013

Unexpected development..............oh my :-)

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - Mr. Wabac - 03-19-2013

Hey I cool this ship - what a cool design !

Love the build too - very neatly done.

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - Wombat - 03-20-2013

Congrats on that Steve!

I really do like the design of this craft myself, it has that really badass look to it. Of course thats going mostly on your first build there which looks bloody killer! I'm looking forward to seeing it once you have it painted and weathered as it'll just take it to another level again..

Awesome job and it's easy ta see why someone else out there would want one.

RE: Buck Rogers Scorpion - steve36uk - 03-22-2013

Cheers Phil-just discovered who my benefactor is and can i go hide please.....
