1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Red III - 10-04-2013

Hey guy's, I thought I'd post some progress pictures of my latest project. The Ralph McCuarrie concept A-Wing is a rather simple kit so it shouldn't take too long to complete. Here is the cockpit tub with pilot with a single LED for lighting.

Wow that´s some pretty nice work!

Off to a great start there! That pilot and cockpit are looking very good.

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Red III - 10-07-2013

Here are the top and bottom fuselage halves. Very well cast although there are some strange bumps on the undersides that will need to be filed away since they interfere with the fit. There is also some slight warping of the parts but a soak in some hot tap water should take care of that . I'll also have to come up with some simple armature for mounting and running wires.[attachment=14783][attachment=14784][attachment=14785]

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - 3phase - 10-07-2013

I would say those bumps are just fill points in the mold maybe.

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - JAWS - 10-07-2013

Nice. This is a TITAN kit right?

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Red III - 10-07-2013

Yes, It's A Titan Kit.

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Red III - 10-16-2013

A little more progress. I found these really inexpensive LED flashlights and used the LED cluster for the engines. They fit right into the engine nacelles. I'l be making diffusers for each engine to make them look a little more interesting. [attachment=14829][attachment=14830][attachment=14831]

They look like they'll do the job very well.

cool! now im thinking I should start building mine Smile nice job so far

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Red III - 11-05-2013

Finished all the major painting, now I'll go back and fix all the overspray and bleeds. I use a high tack frisket for most of the masking, it works really well for me. Next I'll paint the little details, give it a gloss clear coat, put the decals on and then give it its final flat coat and weathering. I'll try to get the masking off the canopy after that......[attachment=15154][attachment=15155][attachment=15156]

Ah! Also very nice Mustang. My favorite is the "Grim Reaper" but there are so many nice Mustangs out there.

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Gans - 11-08-2013

Did you find a gap when you put the two halves together
On the side of the ship
I think it was the right hand front side about level with the guns??

I couldn't work out if it was ment to be there or required filling and sanding
I think the guy on you tube did about a 13part build and he had the same problem

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Red III - 11-08-2013

There is suppose to be an "intake vent" along the leading edge on either side. I did have to clean that up quite a bit so it would look right , the casting wasn't too clear in those spots.

RE: 1/24 Studio Scale Scale Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing - Red III - 11-22-2013

Finished. Just a few more things here and there but that's just about it.
