3 foot Galactica WIP - directorcass - 05-21-2014

Wow, I haven't posted here in a while. Here is my latest project, Mike Salzo's 37.5 inch 1/2 SS TOS Galactica. It's going to be lit with .5mm fiber optics, scratchbuilt landing bay interiors, and will have a few 3D printed replacement parts. Here she is as she currently sits on my much too small desk!

Looks like a great kit. I love the Galactica and thought to myself that I would never be able to do it in studio scale so I have one of these on its way to me as I think it will be the next best thing that I can afford anyway.

When the 16.5 pound box arrives on your doorstep have a drool rag handy! It's an awesome kit with great casting. Mike outdid himself on this kit. I'll add a lot more in progress pics tonight.

RE: 3 foot Galactica WIP - directorcass - 05-23-2014

Thanks guys. I'll post more pics after dinner tonight. Even though it wont be done for Wonderfest, I'm bringing it anyway. A few people want to see it. Anyone here going the WF?

Fitting of the large parts on the bottom. Fit is pretty darn good. A little hand fitting to eliminate small gaps and she will be good to go.

RE: 3 foot Galactica WIP - directorcass - 11-25-2014

Sorry I have not updated this thread. The build has been on hold for a bit as I have been involved with getting a series of replacement parts 3D printed for this model. You guys have probably already seen them, but here they are again. First we have a new bridge. This version has 23 pre-drilled .25mm holes for fiber optic drilled. Non drilled is also available.

Then we have a new nose for the Salzo Galactica. It's an absolute little jewel!

And coming in the mail, the two new upper domes!

Oh, and anyone building the little Moebius Galactica, these same parts are available for it as well!

Wow, thats a real beauty there. And those printed parts have come a long way, since they started. Very crisp detail. Now if we could only 3d print the 7 foot version, Wink
