Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Wombat - 05-21-2014 It can be funny how things come about at times and from just looking at this a bit more recently on the bookface thingie i now find myself wanting to try and build a replica of the EAD. It'll be a learn as i go with it as i haven't studied it so am just working it out as i go. It's more fun this way!! LOL Anyway i don't have all the kits needed or infact know what all the donors are so nothing has changed there anyway. Still for the most part the main parts are known so hopefully it'll look sorta around the money when done. So to start things off the cut Fujimi F-15 fuselage. I had that kit.. [attachment=16162] I also had one of the two needed Revel F-15's so i cut that fuselage and joined the engines together. The front piece is also from that kit and it will be made up of four seperate cut pieces once i have the other F-15. They really could have made things easier for that neck section than they way they did it. [attachment=16163] Ok so tonight i played around a little more with it. I need more kits before i can do much more but one thing i needed to do was make a base for the Saturn V cone. Looking at the ref on Modeler Miniatures Magic the cone sits on a flat area that is the height of the intakes. I made up the spacer and then cut the back out to make room for the cable car roof's to sit. I don't know how it is on the original but this works for me. [attachment=16164] [attachment=16165] [attachment=16166] While i had the blu tack out though for holding that cable car roof in place i thought i might as well put the one engine on. It's probably far from where it needs to be it was just to see how it looked.. ![]() [attachment=16167] [attachment=16168] So theres where i'm at with it at the moment. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Satazius - 05-21-2014 Wow Phil, lookin' good. Maybe the Thunderfighter wings from the new Timeslip release will be the right size? From what I understand the ones from the Jim Key kit and the Sneisen kit are too small. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - LastBattlestar - 05-22-2014 Cool! Damn I'm so behind on my model project list. ![]() Mike RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Richard_2001 - 05-22-2014 Phil, Nice start on this looks like a nice addition to collection Richard RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - darkimmitator - 05-22-2014 great start on this Phil . I was actually thinking about tackling this build as well . I just need to do some more research . Off to a great start with things so far mate . RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - JAWS - 05-22-2014 I have wings coming from George Takacs for us Phil. Great start. I'm going to kit this. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - LastBattlestar - 05-22-2014 YES!!! RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - JAWS - 05-22-2014 YES!!!! Im going to stick my chin out & assume that YES!!! was for a kit. YES! I am going to kit this! I put my hand up first for this one. Might as well say there's a bunch more that are going to get kitted also. I will have starter pics coming soon. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - JAWS - 05-22-2014 Oh & just to be clear. I have permission to use the wings to make the kit. Sorry to.hijack the thread Phil. Without Phils assistance by his project it wouldn't happen. Just doing what he does. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - LastBattlestar - 05-22-2014 Rock on. Mike RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - olcabour - 05-23-2014 Nice start, Wombat. What is the length of the studio model ? RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - dbhs - 05-24-2014 Very cool Phil. Cant wait to see more on this. I imagine you've got almost all of the parts for this already with your G build. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Wombat - 05-24-2014 Thanks all.. For a change i've been having some fun again with the modeling starting this one. Hanging to get some kits so i can progress more with things and have picked up some so i can do that. Just need to get em mailed down here now. Jase thats great news on the wings but Richard has offered to help me out also. It might be easier to go with those ones George will send you as he has them molded up already. Theres actually a few kit's needed for this one that i didn't/don't have in my stash, Doug. So far they have all been relatively cheap and easy to get so thats been a good thing. There is one though that will be a PITA to get but then theres always gotta be one, right.. It's not too large this one around 18" in length when done. Heres a couple of bomb looking parts that i'm not sure what they would be from.. Anyone one here studied this subject and know what they might be from? [attachment=16177] RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - JAWS - 05-24-2014 Possibley old motor bike fuel cans. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Satazius - 05-24-2014 On Ken Larson's site he mentions that part of the head was vac-formed. Given the number of kit parts on there, it seems likely to me that these are as well. But it's possible they were a vac form shape they had around the shop. Hopefully they ARE from a kit. Weird shape though, to be sure. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Wombat - 05-24-2014 Not looking like that to me..They appear to be two halves of something but theres no cut out to fit over a frame if that was the case. It looks like there is two bits of detail on them, a pin at the fat end and then a little ramp as such on the inboard edge of both but thats all i see. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Wombat - 05-24-2014 Jeff, I'm wondering if Ken Larson is talking about the larger one that is mentioned was being built? The head on this one is a kit part but would have needed to be made for the larger scale one. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Satazius - 05-24-2014 Mmmm. Yeah I think you're right Phil. I never knew they were making a bigger one until I re-looked at Ken's site and some old EAD posts today. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Wombat - 05-25-2014 Jeff, after looking at that page again the way it's spoken i took it Ken was talking about the smaller miniature and that Vac Formed head also. He simply must have been getting it and the larger one being constructed mixed up. RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - JAWS - 06-26-2014 Got the wings. Compliments of Timeslip Creations George Takacs RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - bg_451 - 06-26-2014 (06-26-2014, 11:40 AM)JAWS Wrote: Got the wings. Those wings look great Jason. Will you be making them available on their own? Those lumps on the head of the EAD look like Fat Boy atomic bomb halves, although the usual suspects look like they taper too much for a match (Monogram B-29, etc) RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - LastBattlestar - 06-27-2014 If they are bomb halves, there ain't much else they could be. Maybe sanding them down to fit the head has altered the profile so we don't recognise the parts? It wouldn't be from the big 1:48 kit, those parts are quite large. Did the smaller B29 kit have the bomb in it? RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - steve36uk - 06-30-2014 Must resist..Must resist- oh bugger it.... RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - LastBattlestar - 06-30-2014 Hey, for any of you guys that might be building this or just have the parts, I need the missile racks from the Fujimi 1:48 F15. They are under the Galactica bay nose caps, part no.82 on the parts maps, E13 in the kit. I forgot to order two sets from CR....even parts from another manufacturer in that scale would be cool. What the hell...also the AMT 359 wrecker engine block halves used under the main body and the M60A1 boxes used under the nose, part no.185 pn the maps. A loan would be great, I'll cast them up and return them to you if that's cool? Thanks! Mike RE: Eastern Alliance Destroyer - Wombat - 07-26-2014 Things are just mocked up for the most part but things are starting to take shape. The neck was some fun to make. I actually fucked it up the first time and had to re do. Good thing those Revell F-15 kits aren't expensive or hard to find. It's an area that involves more cutting than what i would have expected them to go to the trouble with on the original but it's just what they did. Armature shown is still in the works also as i plan to have the front mount connected to the main pipe even though i don't know if that was the case on the original or not. I'm still to have that bit made but will hopefully get it underway early next week and perhaps get back by the weekend if lucky. Once i have the armature in place i can start putting things together properly. Haven't decided if i'm going to light it or just dummy those up yet but it's something i need to choose in the near future.
