Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-03-2014 Here I go again. LOL Another CR head section build for a lucky fellow who is getting a "kit" of the original series battlestar. This will be the last time I make one of these modules -- at least like this. It's excruciatingly difficult to build and takes weeks. After I'm done here, I am going to completely redesign the head structure. That will be Version 3 and hopefully the final version. After that, I will at long, long last start building one for myself. Once my model is done, I plan to retire from making studio-scale battlestar replicas. . . RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - Wombat - 07-03-2014 Coming along nicely there and outstanding work once again as per normal.. RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - dbhs - 07-03-2014 Retiring?!?!? But....what are you going to do during your retirement? That's the best time to build models. RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-03-2014 Oh, there are PLENTY of other things I'd like to make. I'm just tired of building battlestars. Someone said I should start putting symbols across my avatar like "kills" listed on a fighter plane. LOL
RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - JAWS - 07-04-2014 Ha you should Charles! Looking good. I want one.... RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - LastBattlestar - 07-04-2014 Must be 7 or 8 of those by now Charles? Mike RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-04-2014 This is #8!! Still 2 more to go, that will make it an even 10 builds. . . RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - LastBattlestar - 07-04-2014 Not a bad guess. Do you supply these through Custom Replicas or are you out on your own now?Can you hook me up with a set of landing bay lights or are they still through CR? Mike RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-05-2014 Everything is through CR.

Charles: Sorry to disappoint, but there are twelve colonies, so you can't stop at ten - must get to twelve. Thirteen if you want to count the last tribe - perhaps that one can be yours ? Back to my bear skins and stone knives... RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-05-2014 LOL I'd lose my mind if I had to build 5 more. . . RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - roboterkampf - 07-06-2014 Love it, Charles
RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-06-2014 Thanks Jason!
RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - Kafka - 07-07-2014 Your build looks amazing--even the interior supporting structure is beautiful. Do you always use acrylic for the interior? RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-07-2014 Thanks! ![]() I nearly always make my structures out of acrylic. I love working with this material. I choose it for the same reasons Grant McCune did when he was in charge of building all the models for the original Star Wars. Acrylic is strong, rigid, glues very quickly, and lasts a long, long time. When using solvent, the glue bond is molecular and can be so strong the part will break before the joint fails. Acrylic is brittle, however, and it's so hard that it can be a nightmare to cut by hand. I have all my parts laser-cut, so that is not a problem. If you know how to work with it, acrylic can be an excellent choice when you want to build something that's strong and made to last. RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - Kafka - 07-08-2014 Star-art, Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed response. I really enjoyed the historical reference to Grant McCune, too. I can tell I’ll be learning a lot from your build and I look forward to your updates. It's a work of art. RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-21-2014 Almost done. This head section will be crated and shipped very soon! RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - JAWS - 07-22-2014 Yeah my address is.... RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-23-2014 Ha ha! Nice try. . .
RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - JAWS - 07-25-2014 Doh!!! Well maybe in a year or 2 I can save up for one... RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 07-25-2014 In a year or two you won't catch me anywhere near a battlestar model (or anything else from this series). LOL I am retiring! RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - JAWS - 07-25-2014 What!?! Retiring, no, no ,no Mr Adams. RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - dbhs - 07-26-2014 I don't believe it. RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - Wombat - 07-26-2014 That's what he thinks now...lol RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 08-05-2014 Finally done, packed, and ready to ship. Had some family distractions that slowed me down. I'm looking forward to getting back in the saddle again.
RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - Wombat - 08-05-2014 Do they make saddles that big? Someone on this globe is sure to be happy about seeing that other than just yourself. Nice work!
RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 08-05-2014 Ha! I'll have you know I've lost 18 kilos since the Boston trip at the end of April.
RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - Wombat - 08-06-2014 For a change i'll actually be serious. That's absolutely bloody amazing Charles.. Good on you for sticking with it over the months. Well done mate! ![]() RE: Yet ANOTHER studio-scale G head module - star-art - 08-07-2014 Thanks! I need all the help and encouragement I can get. . .
