TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 07-08-2014

Hi!

Almost 2 years ago I started my TIE Interceptor. Finally after a lot of research and help from boardmembers I am getting closer to the finish line Big Grin

I am not pleased with the angle of the wing, it looks too flat (currently 30°). I think the original was closer to 36° and I have difficulties finding the right prismatic light diffusor material Sad

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - Ralphee - 07-08-2014

Dont shoot me if im wrong lol, but im sure the correct wing pattern was in fact a Plastruct sheet item buddy!

Bests.....lee

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 07-08-2014

Really? That sound great. Thanks for the hint Lee, I will take a look at the Plastruct cataloge.

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - Stefan Hacker - 07-08-2014

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - Ralphee - 09-02-2014

Was nuts seeing all the TIEs together this weekend in Paris SO many differing blues, the Std had a hue almost identical to the Interceptor, yet the Bomber and X1 were very deep blues, really cool to see them together!
Any more progress on this build?

Lee

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 09-03-2014

Hi Lee

You are all so lucky to see the originals :-) If only a SW exhibition would be near where I live...
Not so much progress, I finished some of the smaller parts (cockpit).
Right now I am reworking the plans for the wings (the 3rd time Big Grin ).

One last part drives me crazy, it looks like a bigger part and the Ferrari part sits on top of it. Does anyone have any hints?

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - Ralphee - 09-03-2014

Hmm still looks like replicated cast alloy housing from an F1 bud, have you gone through the T4?

Lee

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - Ralphee - 09-03-2014

A10 from the Tamiya 312 T3 looks close bud!

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 09-03-2014

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - JAWS - 09-05-2014

Looking good.
I don't have any Ties yet......

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 11-01-2014

I did a complete rework of my plans and decided to start version 3 of my Interceptor wings. Acrylic sheets are cut, and gluing them together started Big Grin

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - MonsieurTox - 11-02-2014

Looking good ! Will you cut out the textured panel openings to insert them into the thickness of the wings or are the textured panels glued on top of your acrylic wing ?

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 11-02-2014

Thanks!
I glue it on top. The material can be about 1,3mm thick that should be enough for the material I plan to use.

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - MonsieurTox - 11-02-2014

Ok, that doesnt let a lot of room, the pyramids of the panel look quite deep ! Cant wait to see more !

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 11-10-2014

Work on the inner wings started. Greeblies, greeblies and more greeblies :-)

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 12-15-2014

Thanks Guy!

Your Slave is awesome too so far!
I finished the inner greeblie panels today, so its finally time for primer (yeah!!)
Sorry, no pictures yet :-)

Thanks for looking :-)

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - MonsieurTox - 01-05-2015

This is looking fantastic Stefan !

I love the black ABS Tees on the white wings ! Very classy Smile

Have you put a square aluminium rod inside the wing ?

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 01-05-2015

Thank you Julien!

Yes there is a square rod inside the wing. I thought it may help with the alignment of the wings and keep them in the right position.

I made a little step aside from the Interceptor wings and started to build something else during this weekend:

[attachment=17024]

And now I return back to work on my Interceptor :-)

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - MonsieurTox - 01-11-2015

Awesome !

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - 3d-builder - 01-11-2015

I dont have a Tie fighter either If I make one I would
make a Interceptor to go with a A-wing. This is looking
sweet.

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 01-26-2015

Thanks.
Only a small update today. Dimensions of the wing look good, the kit parts fit very well. Only a few parts on the outside of the wings need to be glued on.

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - MonsieurTox - 01-26-2015

Stefan, this is very sexy !! One more wing to go !

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 01-26-2015

Haha! Thanks a lot!
The second wing should now be finished faster with the first wing as template.

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - dirtydave - 01-27-2015

Loving your build Stefan.Did you ever find the right textured panel for your wings?

Dave

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 01-28-2015

Thanks Dave!
No I didn´t find the right panel yet. I think the original was a thin prismatic light diffuser sheet with female square base elements with a side length of about 3,2mm. PS-145 from Plastruct looks good in their catalogue but in reality its totally different.
I have a sheet which has the right size of the base elements but they are diamond shaped :-(

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - elfonzo - 07-27-2015

I switched back to my standard TIE build and I am too lazy to make another thread, so I am posting my progress of the TIE also in this thread :-)

I am now finally finished with my wing star (Yipee!):

[attachment=17394]  [attachment=17392]

I tried to replicate the crazy asymmetries of the original, its so much harder than building it perfect symmetrical, but the kit parts fit very well so it seems I am pretty close to the dimensions of the original studio scale model:

[attachment=17393]

I am also decided to rework every other part I already finished. I started with the back:

[attachment=17390]    [attachment=17391]

More coming soon...

RE: TIE Interceptor from Scratch - dirtydave - 07-27-2015

NICE.Can't wait to see more.

Very cool project; perhaps a fresh load of TIE-i pix to peg your progress on that model?

Cheers!
