Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 07-27-2014 Last year I started on a replica of the 'Close up' section of the Valley Forge from Silent Running. ![]() After tracking down the kits, only 4 are used, all Bandai 1/30th and 1/15th Panzer 4s, I figured out what was needed (since revised): ![]() Had the base pieces laser cut: ![]() Assembled and checked against a 'life size' print out: ![]() ![]() Well after a short delay :-) Thanks to Paul Francis and Simon Graves, castings are finally coming out of the molds here in Bangkok: ![]() Hopefully I can start cleaning them up and attaching to the base later this week. RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LastBattlestar - 07-27-2014 That is cool Lee! I really like how you build the more obscure subjects, nice to be different eh? Hey, can't wait to see how you recreate Bruce Dern making breakfast. Jim Creveling created some really cool 3D interior effects very simply on his Nebulon build that would work for you. Mike RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - darkimmitator - 07-28-2014 hey mike , check your pm! RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 07-28-2014 Yeh I'm not sure what to do about the interior, I wish there was a way to get the original footage and put a video screen in there :-) RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 08-12-2014 I finally have cast up the first full set of parts needed for the Valley Forge close-up window section. Took a lot more resin/molds than I thought. 408 pieces in total. ![]() Now if I offer a very limited run of these, I need someone to cast them up for me. I just don't have the work space for it. RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - cireskul - 08-12-2014 Wow. this is awesome. RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 01-19-2015 Finally it's moving again after my moving from Thailand to Austria. It 'should' make some rapid progress now :-)
RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - dsp5500 - 01-19-2015 Can't wait to see this hung on a wall. Rob RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 01-26-2015 Moving right along. Hope to have it in primer next weekend! ![]() ![]()
RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - Mr. Wabac - 01-27-2015 Looks great ! Would be amazing if you could fit a small screen where Bruce Dern is. If the original footage doesn't work you could always stage the same scene and put yourself into the Valley Forge. I guess you have a real appreciation for how massive the actual filming miniature was. RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 01-28-2015 Yeh I'm looking for a small screen. I'll figure a way to make a repeating loop of Bruce, but yes I could film someone else and put in too :-) On the big/full miniature they used a photo of this close-up panel:
RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - KrokoHunter - 01-28-2015 How big would the screen have to be? .. could an old iPhone do the trick? RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - Mr. Wabac - 01-31-2015 (01-28-2015, 08:11 AM)LeeS Wrote: On the big/full miniature they used a photo of this close-up panel: RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 02-02-2015 OK the main build is done (some pieces and all the piping will be added once I have the base paint on) ![]() Now for a little primer to see how it all looks. (Note to anyone using a sharpie, it seems Tamiya primer doesn't cover it) ![]()
RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - JAWS - 02-04-2015 Niiice. Very kool Lee. RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 02-09-2015 Added/trimmed the piping today. There's a few spots that I can't see clearly on the reference, but this is my best guess! Also added a little styrene supports in a couple of places, while I can't see them on the reference, something needs to be there. Not everything is glued down yet :-) Most was styrene tube with a wire down the middle so it keeps its shape. ![]() ![]() ![]()
RE: Silent Running Valley Forge - LeeS - 09-06-2015 With summer over and my Narcissus finished it was time to get back to the Valley Forge :-) 2 hours masking, 60 seconds airbrushing, 5 minutes un-masking, rise, repeat! ![]() ![]() It's very difficult to know exactly what colour the original miniature is. It's certainly a light tan, not white or grey. So I used Tamiya XF-55 Deck Tan mixed about 2:3 with flat white as a base. Then there's a bunch with a little red/pink, some blues, and the rest are just darker and darker shades of the tan. ![]() ![]()
