Full Studio Scale ATAT Build - dsp5500 - 10-11-2014

Hi guys, Been working on and off on the ATAT for a while and finally got to the stage of making a prototype of the ATAT armature. Firstly the leg. This is a working armature with compression on the foot along with working pistons on the upper leg as close to ILM spec as i can get them.
Here's a video link to the piston mechanism prototype I made earlier this year.

And here are some pics of the machined parts so far.

Steve's been great helping me out on the ATAT build, I think he wants to see it finished more than me Smile

Here are the feet that will be covered with resin shoes. Just like the original armature there posable.

This ones driving me nuts,

Those were scratched on the original.

Awesome work, I must admit you almost nailed the foot insert.

Well scratch its is then, Thanks.

What are you calling "Foot Insert's" The 4 aluminium parts in the last pic?
I know mine aren't canon, but will do for the prototype. I will redo them at some stage but this was easier and has the same effect.

Installed the pistons and made thin brass shim's. Everything on the test fit fitted spot on.

Got all the machine screws and other parts I needed. Thanks Scott
Couldn't wait so started putting it together to check fit. Still a bit of work milling the screws that need to be worked
but Its coming together nicely.
Re machined the shin and will do the foot inserts next.

Upper section mostly done. Few more kit parts to add and need to dig up some Plastruct U beams.

If anyone has a spare 1/24 Stuka gunner window thats not being used and your willing to sell it, Let me know.
Cheers,

Rob

Beautiful. Ill open up my Stuka tomorrow if you want Rob, can't you cast it?

lee

RE: Full Studio Scale ATAT Build - dsp5500 - 01-16-2015

Cheers, Just let me know how much.
Yer I'll cast the one I have but two would be more economical and quicker.
Besides are they used on any other SS builds?

Rob

Ill dig it out the kit when i get in from work in the AM Rob, ill sort it with you. Cant say I've seen it on anything else though, the Stuka is an underrated beast donor wise.
