Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - roboterkampf - 05-07-2015

Any one want a "builders kit" of the BLOCKADE RUNNER?! Thanks to the diligent work of Tsophika and the soon to be diligent work of Mike Salzo, you will be able to buy resin castings of every single plant-on part, and get plans to build it as the original was. This is not a "resin model kit". This is a massive leg up on scratch building a Studio Scale Blockade Runner, part for part, as seen in Star Wars. Not the converted ROTJ version, and not the "sort of restored" ANH version seen today. The original as-seen-on-screen-in-1977 Blockade Runner.

This is the usual "gauge interest" feeler post - and no, I HAVE NO IDEA ON THE PRICE. This has been a slow cooker for a while now, and we are finally at the "throw bags of parts at Salzo to get them cast" stage. He won't know the price either, until he starts molding. This will be offered in phases to - we're starting with the engine section.

So once again, and I cannot stress this enough: WE DON'T KNOW THE PRICE. Somewhere South of the price of building a Battlestar, and somewhere North of the price of that amazing Death Star Turret kit. Not cheap. Six feet.

Of course, I am a crazy person, and I want to build the Pirate Ship first! So here is a Tsophika render of the Pirate Ship, which was one of the first models ILM made in 1975/6-ish?

Did you use computas and them lazer line and calibrated caliper things to make this? Awesome!!!

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - roboterkampf - 05-07-2015

I digitally recast everyone's everything. Mostly the Galoob Micro Machine.

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - roboterkampf - 05-07-2015

Addendum - technically I just took the credit for everything (I'm a no talent ass clown) Wink

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - dsp5500 - 05-07-2015

Ahhh the old school way. Saweeet!

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - dsp5500 - 05-07-2015

Don't be so hard on your self : (

BUT SERIOUSLY, FOLKS (slide whistle) I am super excited to see this idea/project bear fruit. Like the blimp, I got some recently discovered surveys of the Pirate Ship that will let me absolutely NAIL the paint job. And it is WEIRD - cleaner/weirder than Blue 1... definitely "proto ILM" decorations....

KICK ARSE!!!!!!!

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - roboterkampf - 05-08-2015

I am really motivated now. I was just thinking "this Landspeeder is too damn big" but here we are, planning six feet of model goodness.

Great work boys, good luck with such a great venture Smile

Bests, lee

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - JAWS - 05-08-2015

Well another one to scratch off the bucket list.
Not many ANH models left to worry about.
Might actually be able to concentrate on actually building some stuff.

There is one though Jason.
Skyhopper, hint hint.

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - roboterkampf - 05-08-2015

That one will be just like in Beggar's Canyon back home!

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - star-art - 05-10-2015

I like the pirate ship better myself. Smile

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - roboterkampf - 05-12-2015

I love them both almost equally, for different reasons. I've lusted after the Blockade Runner since I was a child in the 70s, and as more and more Pirate Ship reference fell into my lap, I became so enamored with a version I had NO IDEA actually existed for something like 20 years. And like the Landspeeder that some said couldn't be done, we will make this happen.

Wave 1 - the Engine top and bottom, off to Salzo for molding and casting!

This is an amazing endeavor and opportunity.

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - Tsophika - 06-19-2015

The second wave of parts gets us past the engines.

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - jockdeboer - 08-02-2015

Do you know the cost of the second installment yet?

RE: Studio Scale Pirate Ship/Blockade Runner - Tsophika - 09-09-2015

Similar to the first, I believe. Accurate engine interiors will be an upcoming set. 11 of these!
