hey Guys! Here's My NX-01 - erospawn - 12-09-2009

Some of you may have already seen this.. But for those who haven't..Enjoy..

The First four pics just show the kit and the parts placement.

I spray painted the inside of the entire model black to cut down on the light leaks.. Then I spray painted it white to help the light be brighter.. Neat trick that really works..

Here's a sample of the clear plastic windows. I just took Liquid rubber latex to cover the windows.. This way I can put the windows in and build the entire model and not worry about getting paint on the windows. When all is said and done, just peel the latex right off.

The Pictures below show the latex on all the clear parts and the windows now glued into place on the ship. They also show

A pic of the Deflector array. I built a "light" box around the back of the deflector dish and used blue LED's in the back.

RE: hey Guys! Here's My NX-01 - erospawn - 12-09-2009

The first two pictures show the lights all wired up and ready to go. I wanted to cut down on all the wires, so I used a single power wire and a single ground wire and spliced all the LED's in parallel. I think in all there are a total of 50 White LED's?? maybe less. Also, you can see the deflector array in position as well.

Another pic showing the Deflector disk in position.

This picture shows the Warp Nacelles being painted and put together as well.

More pics of the Warp nacelles being put together.
[attachment=1066]

This pic actually shows the Lights used for the warp nacells and lights for the buzzard collector in place. I didn't do a led chasing circuit though. The white things in the middle are two CCFL lights. I had to use two because I felt that the light wouldn't cover the entire area where the light was to be seen. In order to get them to fit, I had to remove them from the tubes they were fitted in, which meant cutting and resplicing the wire together.
They were cheap enough, so I bought 2 kits.. Each circuit was capable of supporting 2 CCFL lights.. The circuit takes 12 volts and ramps it up to 1000 volts to excite the flouresent atoms inside the tubes.. I realized later, it was bit overkill on the warp lights.. still looks good to me though.. But I'll do it different next time.

This pic shows the buzzard collecter.. ( I think thats what its called) basically its 4 yellow LED's and one red LED in the center all crammed in that little space.
[attachment=1068]

This pic shows the Warp nacelles attached and almost everything wired up and ready to go. All thats left is to build the flasher circuit and wire that in.

A close up of the wiring..

A close up of the over all saucer section, wiring in and lighting almost completed.

[attachment=1071]

A close up, little blurry, of the flasher circuit I used. I basically just found a ciruit on the internet that used an LM324 and modified to make the lights fade in and out but also flash..

The following pics are pretty much self explanatory.. The Aztec masking templates I downloaded and printed out..I also had to mask off areas etc.. It was a little like pulling teach to cut out those masking templates though. All in all I think the paint job came out ok.

Note the position of the power connector. I could kick myself for not thinking about its placement better than that..Oh well.

Here's the lighting test. The front of the warp nacelles looks pretty good I think.. However, you see what Im talking about with the power connector..

Like many of us- I also have this kit and know how daunting it can seem when you look at it in the box and plot out how much work it will take to do it some justice.

Not only have you done her proud but I appreciate that you scoured the net for the lighting info and even made your own Aztec masks. Methodology I certainly can identify with!

Kudos to a nicely finished piece!Cool

Stunning work. I agree the ends justify the (extensive) means.
