Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Ralphee - 06-24-2017 OK, well finished at last, managed to get a new camera to carry on playing photographing models, not the best results, but, I'm still learning and no expert .Its been fun, more fun with a model in a long time, as this one took some tinkering to get the tones of the Floquil enamels i have used more or less correct, who's is to say as the ref material on this model conflicts massively. The ILM table shots show the more or less correct tones and hues, yet the most recent ref changes the models actual tones in a drastic fashion.......mine does attempt to follow this most recent ref, but slight adjustments as not to darken her too much, a happy medium if you like. Most of the decals, sadly are not correct and one i do need to source from Micromark still, but i was more than happy to apply them, as not to keep the model in mothballs for too much longer, one can obsess too much.....so this was an exercise in getting yet another model completed this year, and some more, much needed painting practice under my belt. Best Regards.....Lee [attachment=18754][attachment=18755][attachment=18756][attachment=18757] RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - marvin - 06-24-2017 Damn she fine Lee! RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Ralphee - 06-24-2017 Thanks very much Marvin. Still much to learn shooting them, but I feel I'm improving a bit on the paint side. One more accuracy driven paint up (B wing) then it's some concept fun for a while. Lee RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Hammer3246 - 06-24-2017 That looks awesome, I love the decals on this ship. RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Ralphee - 06-24-2017 Thanks Hammer. Yes it's quite a pretty livery, it's blend of yellows etc make it a very different animal to the likes of Golds 2 and 3 say. Though I'm quite partial to both of those models so may want to paint one in the future. Lee RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - KrokoHunter - 06-25-2017 Looks bloody awesome buddy
RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - beaz - 06-25-2017 Hey Lee, I really like the off-white you used for this and your pyro X-Wing. Can you tell us anything about your base color? (PIC HEAVY) - Ralphee - 06-25-2017 Thanks again mate, i just need to learn a lot more about model photography and lighting, but i will in time Lee RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Guy Cowen - 06-25-2017 It's stunning Lee, can't wait to see it again. Nott long now till I actually get to paint something now my work's changed RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Ralphee - 06-25-2017 Thanks a lot mate. You were a huge help in it getting here too, so it all worked out great. Yes, going to be great putting all these on display in Nov, really looking forward to it Lee RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Ralphee - 06-25-2017 OK, now I have started a new thread, in the completed section, ill detail down some on what was used to complete this replica. The model started out, as a Nice N red Jammer kit. I had all plans to begin converting this, using just the hull to a Gold leader. The model was well on its way, but a change of plans, and the advent of some newly released reference, of Gold 5, changed my plans a lot. All parts, as much as I could stomach were removed, and replaced with a good portion of parts to make this conversion possible. All plumbing was also removed and reconfigured to this model, it was soul destroying, but also an operation in delicacy removing all of this. Once the model was brought much more up to par, it was time to follow on from my Red 3 Pyro Xwing, and start researching the paints used. Now, i was working in Floquil enamels, which are quite different to the earlier, period lacquer paints used at the time of its conception, but i was able to make some very nice finds, as, knowing the Floquil catalog, it limits the research and confirms many colours used at the time. Once the palette was chosen, it just meant mixing them to a closer tone, that matched the original colours, and reference material this wasn't very easy, but close was fine for me. The base coat used was an off white, as not to be too stark on the weather pattern. The detailing hues were as follows in Floquil. Foundation Flesh Depot Buff Reefer Yellow Reefer Grey Grime Weathered Black SP light lark grey Rust Once all these were laid down, and the weather pattern suitably adorned, i went about applying the many decals on the model. I used many decals, from the 1/24 Harrier, and Tamiya Matilda. The decals are not all correct, they are very hard to read from the available pictures, so close calls were made, and i have one to add that i believe is from a Micromark decal set, i still need to find this, but no rush at all, i managed to complete my Y, after four years of it sat on the shelf in a sorry state, so this year has been a good year so far, three very key ANH replicas, and from here, many more to follow, as I'm finding my passion for building and painting has grown so much, and will continue to keep having fun, albeit in my second wind of this hobby. Best Regards............ RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - JAWS - 06-25-2017 Excellent build. Detail is really good. Nice work RE: Gold 5 studio scale Y wing. (PIC HEAVY) - Ralphee - 06-25-2017 Thanks Jase. I could do with a break after this, but one more paint up and I can take a bit of a breather, im spending more weekends high on paint fumes and covered in itchy resin than id like of late Lee |
