Mikes Tie Bomber build thread. - mikeg - 08-18-2017

This begun as the JPG model kit that came with very crisp castings, however I have replaced as many resin bits as possible with the styrene kit parts that I had on hand.  There were a few areas that needed surgery but nothing that some squadron putty couldnt fix. This has been a very fun build and my advice for anyone starting this build would be to make very sure to test fit the (2) hulls and bits that fit along the center pipe.  You want to make sure that everything aligns, has a tight fit and is "squared up."  Other than that, its a very straight forward build.

Here are some items of note for my build:
1.  Ive added the MPC Vader tie cockpit front and rear walls to my build simply because I liked the look.
2.  Im still trying to unwarp the resin wings.  They are not bad, just slight enough to annoy me.
3.  Base coat is Tamiya Haze Grey.
4.  I am planning on building some kind of hangar diorama for the tie to hang from.  Ive got some ideas...
5.  There are a few small areas that I noticed after my painting where Im going to go back, sand and refinish for a smoother surface.

Mike thats looking mighty fine. Its nice to see you dressing it up some with original donors, what you have to hand will shine. In regards to the colour, we are looking around at present, as the Bomber didn't seem to be the usual Sea Grey akin to the TIE fighters, if anything it was a lot more of a blue hue when compared to say, the X1 sat beside it, but this is being researched before i do cave and use the Tamiya branded Pactra alternative.
Always good to see others having as much fun as I'am, keep it coming buddy.

Updated photos below...
I am just about to the point where I call it finished.  I was not able to totally unwrap the wings which is abbot frustrating, but they are decent enough as is.  Only thing remaining is adding the small lines that are scattered all over this ship and start working on how to display it.

Anyone have any ideas what they used to draw in those small lines all over the wings and hull?  Are the simple pencil marks?
