AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 12-26-2017 Time for to start a new projekt. This time i want to build the AnH Gold Leader Y-Wing. So far i have 95% of everything which is needed. Currently waiting for the correct bat handle switch, one missing Plasturct tube and some LED stuff. For the paint's i would like to go with Archive X paints, if Guy is back from his trip. As i not can scratch build it, i use the Kit from Mike Salzo. Looks like it's really close to the original, so i have just to change a few things to get it more close to the real one. Some pic's, stay tuned for updates. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - el loco - 12-26-2017 Great Kit ! Good luck with the build. Let the updates coming. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - JAWS - 12-26-2017 Nice. Good to get some more YWing action. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Apophis - 12-26-2017 I’d love to build another Y, maybe some day. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - JAWS - 12-26-2017 Your Jammer was beautiful Jerry. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Apophis - 12-27-2017 Thanks Jase!! I didn’t think anyone remembered that one, been a long time. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Ralphee - 12-27-2017 This will be great to watch unravel. Very good to hear of your paint choice too. Be nice to see some of these come through with these tones on them. Look forward to your progress. Lee RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 12-29-2017 Thanks Lee,...i just hope i not will screw this. Just slow update. Today got some more tubing stuff and the bat handle switch. Have chosen a 3 postion switch, as i may also want to light up the lasers instead of just the engines. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Ralphee - 12-30-2017 Stefan, you will do fine....take your time and do what you can do, I'm sure she will turn out a stunner, quite envious as id love to build a Gold 3 now, but wow, I'm running out of room at home to keep them. Look forward to you getting further into it. Bests.....Lee RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 02-26-2018 Hi guys. Sorry for the delay, but time is currently something which is running through my fingers like sand. As it is my first Y-Wing build, i had thought a lot about how to start and with which part. Finaly i thought on starting with the cockpit, than go over to the mainbody and finaly switch over to the engines. As i also want to build the cockpit part with screwed together halfs, i will have enough room for the whole electronic in it, as well. Also it should be easy later to reach the electronics if needed as it's screwed and not glued. How ever, talked enough lets build something.. First as always, sand grind and make some test fittings. The windowframe part needs some reshaping in boiling water, should be no big deal. Lets move over to the switch handle. The switch should later work in 3 positions. Engines ON Engines and Front Laser ON OFF Lets do some milling session: Also drilled the holes in the lower section. (Hope i got the wonky hole positions correct as on the original model) Will do some rods in the opposite part that those can be screwed together later. Just asking for the moment, if i have to "drill and destroy" the nice backframe part. As there should the armatur go through later, shouldn't it? So far for now, hope the next update will be much faster. Thx. for watching. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - 3phase - 02-26-2018 I have the red jammer kit and it had the circle marked on the inside to cut it out RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 03-05-2018 Found it, thx. Is the rear greeblie a complete part, otherwise it's a bit sad to build it up first and than destroy everything cause drilling a hole though it.. However. Today i made the base for the screws inside the cockpit. Was a bit more tricky as it looks. First was the position wrong, than the angle than to far right etc. But after 3 houres i managed it to fit as it should be. Screwheads sit now flush and in the correct angle if screwed. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 03-27-2018 Some progress: The cut out of the armature were a bit short, so i saw it to the correct lenght. After i carefully milled the hole in the backcover. Drilled the hole in the alloy sheet as well Fit's really well now Just had precut the engine pods to look how they fit in general. Bit boiling in hot water is needed to get them better in shape on the edges. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 04-11-2018 So some updates on the build, have fun: Some work on the armatur thread. The adapter which came with the microstand fit's perfekt inside the Resin holes and look really spot on the the screen used thread. So i add these as well. Ordered 2 more for the top and rear. As want to place the electronic and batteries in the front, i reshaped the cable chanels After more sanding and grinding, the halfes sit really flush now to each other. Next is to work on the cablelines. To work on the model with the armature is much more confortable. Cable chanels added as well on the wings. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 04-13-2018 Made the fitting for the R2 unit. Decided to not mill the R2 down, instead made a pod for the R2 as the screen used R2 also looked the same way. Also compared the coverplate with the few Gold Leader Ref pic's i have. Would say that the two marked details are reamining from the Red Jammer moulds, but not are on the Gold Leader model. Is this correct? RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 05-10-2018 Some more progress. Milled some new channels for the wireing , added the wires and glues everything together. As next i filled the seems of the two halfs. I know there will be a lot more greeblies added to that areas but i wanted it clean and smooth before add them as now it's easy to get it clean. As next was to sand everything and close the batterie slots on the back as i not use them. I also sand down the details on the R2 unit coverplate, as those are not present on the Gold Leader Y, as well as i changed the backcover. The frame on that part was also remaining from the Red Jammer kit i guess. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Hammer3246 - 05-12-2018 Coming along nicely! RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 05-13-2018 Thanks, glad you like it! As the two halfes now filled and sanded, i wanted to go for the detailing on the sides. I can say it was a good choise to fill and sand those even as you not see a lot later from the seams. It's just kind of cleaner work. But before go to the side details, i first added the wing armatur covers. Filled and send them as well. Those detailing on the sides is really taff work. A lot of the parts which come with the kit need special trimming while other a lot of sanding, as they are casted like real kit parts in compelte. Which is good to work with. The instructions which Jason did are a good help here (thanks for that btw.), but you need to be carefull as some of the parts shown in the instruction ar still from the Red Jammer modelkit. So i worked more with the references from the orginal model here, to add the parts on their places. So far my work till this point. Took me 8 hours just to fill the two midpart sides. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 05-26-2018 Main section is done so far, so time for some primer. Im quite happy so far with the result till this point. Just tiny Milliput work and some more fine sanding here and there. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 06-10-2018 Some work on the engines. I have to say,the castings are not that good as on the rest of the kit. Those parts need a lot of sanding and filling. Also some details need to be changed here as well from Red Jammer to Gold Leader. But it's all possible to do, so i'm fine with it so far. Below some progress pic's , have fun. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 07-01-2018 Just an update how it looks currently Piping and light up's still need to be made before painting. This thing is really huge...or better long. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 08-14-2018 Well thought i could upload some pic of the current status. Meanwhile, lightning is made, model got preshaded in black, got his ground layer in white and i started with the bule detailing...oh and painted the R2 and Mr. Dutch Vander. Really happy how it looks so far. Could be better, but hey...it's my first rebel ship :-) Have fun Cheers thanks for watching. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 08-14-2018 Some more pic's RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Hammer3246 - 08-14-2018 Looking awesome! RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - shadowknight - 08-30-2018 Great thread here. Would you happen to have a link to the microstand 1/4-20 thread adapters you used? RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Jkirkon - 09-01-2018 These are the thread adapters I use. https://www.studio1productions.com/parts/thread-adapter.htm RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - JAWS - 09-06-2018 Excellent. Great build thread. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 09-07-2018 Thanks guy's! Cause of the micro-stand. And some more progress in yellow. Masking took 4 hours but gave a really nice result at the end...well it was the first time i ever did this like that so it just could be worse. Added very minor paint chipping, which i later will use as template as well for the weathering detailing. The reefer yellow was really nice to paint as well as the midnight blue. Till now the only paint which is a bit "bitch" is the reefer white. Not know why, but it not has that nice finish as the other paints. I have to use a lot of thin layers as it not want to cover. But maybe that's normal, don't know. Did the masking without any template, just be using upscaled refpic's from the studio model, a caliper and well...my eyes. The curves i cut with the scalpel. Have fun while watching. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 09-21-2018 Some updates. Time for the detailing, weathering and well...washing. Progress so far, still a looooong way to go. Have fun. RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 09-23-2018 Just on a side note i want to say thank you to Guy here for offering those paints. They are may not like the original Floquil colours as some say, but while painting the model so far and check each section with the ref. pic's from the original, i just can say that they match wonderful once they are dry. It really gives a super nice touch to the model while panting. No big mixing needed as the batch Guy had send me for that model, match perfect without big mixing the paints. So thank you Guy. If this model is finished one more dream of my childhood has been come true. Ohh....and of course thank's to Mike Salzo as well for doing the kit!! RE: AnH Y Wing Gold Leader - Turrican - 10-06-2018 Thought i would share some pic's of the final stage of the painting. Only thing what is missing now are the decals and maybe a overall last wash. Well i know the paint job is far below the skills from the master's here on the board, but i hope you still have fun while watching. Next Y Wing will be better.
