SS B-Wing -Finished- - Turrican - 03-27-2020

Well after some break, time for a new projekt.
This time a stuido scale B Wing.
Kind  of rare, long time search but finaly catch.

Onby some pic's of the kit and the cockpit so far.
The lights in the cockpit i will just imitate and later paint.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 04-24-2020

Bit more to show, still long way to go.
Some fittings and testings.
Front of the Cockpit detailing finished so far.
Back is a bit harder to do as i need to remould the back as it was casted for a fixed cockpit.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 08-08-2020

Just a bump that i'm still on it.
Time is low at the moment and to get the kit right close to screen used one is really not as nice as i thought.
Drilled the holes for the wings last weekend, which really was a pain in the ass.
Also cutted a few parts down to single parts, as it was not possible to get the whole kit in one straight line with the armature.
Still long way to go.

Also still on the hunt for some missing parts.
They loo like air hoses from some warbird or an old racing car.
Well...still on it but really slow.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 09-20-2020

Well time to show some progress.
Cutted the long wing , as the distance to the small wings were to short.
The wings could not sit flush in the spare area, also the big wing was not in center line to the rest of the upper parts.

Cockpit mechanism is now also finished, possible to turn 360°, sit flush but not to muich so it will hold in each position.
Made new shims for the openings in the front of the big wing.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 10-27-2020

Some updates, have fun.

RE: SS B-Wing - JAWS - 10-28-2020

Nice work

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 11-15-2020

Thank's Jaws :-)

Onby some more progress.
She has the first Primer on her now.
Used Tamiya fine surface primer.

Also added some missing wires and micro neodym magnets for the armature shims.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 12-21-2020

Some light up

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 01-16-2021

Well after enough sanding priming sanding and so on...time for some paint with Archive X.
ILM Style pilot.
Still need a smooth blackwash, but you get an idea.
Have fun.

Btw. The paint fit's perfect, thx Guy.

RE: SS B-Wing - JAWS - 01-20-2021

That looks great. Wish I had got that kit.

RE: SS B-Wing - Ogibendogy - 01-21-2021

Looks great, Turrican. Love that shot of the cockpit.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 02-27-2021

Hi folks, some update on the painting.
Finaly made it to the airbrush cause of the upcoming better weahter now.

Started with some pre shading and pre colouring the engines and weapons with engine black.
Just sloppy over it, as it will be later masked and finished cleaner.

Tha go ahead painting with reefer white as base coat.
Plaque is meanwhile also finised.

RE: SS B-Wing - Jessie White - 03-09-2021

This is beautiful! I've always loved the B-Wing Fighter. I wished that I could build one of these or at least the A-Wing Fighter. Thank you for sharing.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 03-17-2021

Hey Jessie,

glad you like it.
Will do my best to finish it close to screen as possible.

Meanwhile i tried something new (to me)
Humbrol Metalcote

Tried 2 different shades with and without airbrush.
At least no big difference. To paint with brush was bit easier and i had a smother finish at the end.
With the airbrush the surface had a more sandblasted touch.

Next time i would use black as basecoat instead of grey.
But for this time, the finished result is okay as how it looks.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 03-28-2021

Some further work on the painting.
After some white, white and well some more withe i'll go over now to the base coats in the different areas.

Start with base coat on engines, all the guns, cockpit and cockpit cover.
For this i used Lark Grey and ILM Stormy Sea.
As first try to get the correct hue, i'm quite please so far.

Befor paint...masking first..took me at least 4 hours. Blush

Also masked a few areas for later chipping and layers in White and Foundation.
The engines and the "cockpit ring" got highlighted with a mix of Stormy Sea and just a bit of Lark Grey as well as the underside of the wing canons.

Next will be the base blue shades on the wings and the main body.
More layers and shadings to follow.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 04-01-2021

Next Base Layer...ILM Stormy Sea.
Center stripe and lower Gunpod area.
Looks more darker grey blue as on the wings on the cockpit backpart.
So i decided to go here with stormy sea first.

Also wanted to paint the wings in base with Blue 55 and some lark grey, but as i corrected the masking tape, in some areas the bascoat inkluding the primer come off.
I'm really please....well. Heart

Should be to fix, but i really not want to sand down the whole bird, so i will repair the areas and hope it will not be affect the whole bird as well.
Also will switch to a not that adhesive masking tape and will tape smaller areas, while using a finer airbrush nozzel for the edges.

So back to stormy sea.
Looks greyish blue in the jar as we all know it on the Tie's but green in the pic's don't know why.
Base coat is white.
Anyhow as some lighter blue, grey and reefer white for "dusting" will follow i hope to match the correct hue than.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 05-02-2021

Going further.
Two steps back and one step forward.
The "area new painting" was not really successful, so i stripped the whole paint with a razor blade on the wing and repainted it.
Should be fine now...i hope.

After this was done, i did the wing markings, the stripes at the cockpit back part and low cockpit chin area.
Added some misting on the ILM Stormy Sea in differend lighter hues, useing a mix of Blue 55 and a tip of lark grey.

Enjoy.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 05-06-2021

Bonsaaaaaai..points..or what ever it is.
Using Reefer Orange is fun.
Very nice painting.

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 05-10-2021

Strating with first detailing, washing, weahtering...

RE: SS B-Wing - Turrican - 05-15-2021

More details and weathering.

RE: SS B-Wing -Finished- - Turrican - 06-10-2021

Well would call it finished.
Far away from a John Simmons, but i'm quite happy so far.
Sorry for the bad cell phone pic's.

Decals are from a Jason run from 10 years ago, some microscale as well as some letraset.
Tried to catch the details as close as possible.
Overall i would say she has "the ILM look"

RE: SS B-Wing -Finished- - Ogibendogy - 06-12-2021

It's never finished - but it's a beaut all the same! The engine lighting it perfect.

RE: SS B-Wing -Finished- - Turrican - 06-19-2021

Well the engines could be a litte bit more bright. It's ok in darker background.
But as shown on the pic above its a bit weak.

RE: SS B-Wing -Finished- - Satazius - 06-20-2021

It's a fabulous build. Love to see the B-wing. One of the best Star Wars designs.

RE: SS B-Wing -Finished- - LeeS - 07-21-2021

WOW!! A beautiful build!
