crashed AT-AT and snowspeeder - Scott Graham - 01-04-2010

Hi all,

This is a diorama I took a pic of before moving into my tiny NYC apartment and moved a lot of the models I've made into storage.

The AT-AT and snowspeeder are both from SMT and are approximately 1:48 scale. I have a MR AT-AT (which is the same scale) so I wanted to show this one in a different light. I figured the inaccuracy of some of the details would be balanced by a dynamic pose. I replaced the side guns with scratch built guns from the 20mm flak gun kit. I also used the shields from the kit on the rear of the hull. The bottoms of the feet also have details added - the originals were just flat resin.

The snowspeeder was a separate kit and I always wanted to show that snowspeeder buzzing the AT-AT just before it exploded. Only problem with the snowspeeder pose is that I put the wrong speed brake up in the air. I hope it doesn't veer into the AT-AT!

Hope you like it!

Scott

Thats so awesome man! You got the wire around the legs and everything.. I really need to start making some dioramas. What did you use for the snow? Plaster?

Thanks!

The snow was built up with celluclay. It's a type of paper mache - if you're unfamiliar with it. It's a gray fibrous block of material that you mix with water and white glue. Then I painted it white with house paints. Over that are microballoons sprinkled over a watery white glue base. They used microballoons for the bases in ESB. Hazardous stuff to breathe though, and it's like a dusty powder, so if you aren't wearing a gas mask and clean up really well, you'll definitely inhale it.
