Probe Droid Despatch Pod - Scott Graham - 01-04-2010
Hi all,
Here are some shots of the despatch pod kit made by Richard and mastered by Lee. It was a lot of fun to build and not too hard to light. The only deviation was to use some 8 rad suspension bits around the engine nozzle, and some wiring added for color (a la Lee).
There was a disaster as the paint was drying - it crashed onto the floor and the third tier of the engine nozzle broke into twenty pieces. I decided to leave it as is and paint over the damaged area. I only count two rims used in my reference anyway, so I'm ok with it. Problem is that the LED and inner nozzle detail are a little too prominent. Oh well...
The toughest part of it was masking and spraying the darker graphic shapes on the hull sides. I just cut a mask out of paper and held it down to airbrush. It needed a bit of cleanup as the paint seeped under.

Hey there! My first post! dude, wow wow wow wow! I'm a fan, definitely! The aging on these almost-triangular grids is awesome! I'm about to start making props + I've got some spaceship ideas and I'm about to buy an airbrush. I've read many things on forums and I just wanted to know what type of paint you used to achieve that super flat white.. Acrylic? Great pictures!

Yes, that's an acrylic I brushed on foam. No fake snow used on the foam on this one - just paint directly.
