Lost In Space Pod - JAWS - 02-15-2010 Ok I picked this up a little while ago. Not sure if its a Studio Scale? Its a great kit from Mobius & should be fun. I might actually get this one finished... This year, but maybe not! This little kit is getting a brass etched detail set from Paragraphics I got from http://www.cultvman.com thats hopefully being delivered this week. It will also get a lighting kit from http://www.voodoofx.com & more lighting of panels etc from myself with fibre optics Im hoping this will be relatively straight forward so it does get finished in a small time period. The Pod will have a custom Base with landscapeing & maybe a Robbi the Robot or some figures that I think I saw recently. Phil is going to slap me for starting another project when we're just about to start on the Galacticas but I just feel I need to catch up on some of you blokes with your already outstanding finished masterpieces. The Jupiter 2 will be done after this or maybe the Charriot
RE: Lost In Space Pod - Damien9479 - 02-16-2010 Dude I hope you are good at filling seams!! This kit leaves some pretty good ones at the top where the main body goes together And it leaves some rather nasty ones at the front and rear where the main panels go on Believe me I know from experience ...It took me about a good day and a half of sanding and putty work to get them to disappear ![]() Then I hope your prep work is good because silver shows any amount of flaws/scratches in your sanding/putty work Good luck dude!! I guess I better get off my arse and start posting pics of my fully lit J2 commission
RE: Lost In Space Pod - JAWS - 02-16-2010 Thanks & yeah got off yo ass & post that sucker. I was concerned about the seams yesterday when I looked at how it goes together & the reference pics. It'll be ok, just some work. My main concern is the small amount of space for the lighting. RE: Lost In Space Pod - JAWS - 02-19-2010 Ok so the etched detail set arrived yesterday for the Pod. It took 10 days from purchase so thats good service from Cultvman Shouldn't take to long to make the alterations to the styrene pieces for these to go on. Really looking forward to this as its brass etched detail & resin add ons that brought back to armour modeling & on to Sci Fi. Im hopeing this is a rather easy build other than the lights.
RE: Lost In Space Pod - JAWS - 02-23-2010 Ok after a full day starin at Galactica reference Ive had enough. What better wat to unwind than destroy a perfectly good kit .... As per the instructions I went about removing the nice detail from the panels for the etching set to replace. I did have a thought to remove all the panels & cast them in clear. Good idea but the detail gremlin got the better of me & believeing these will make the Pod as accurate as can be went this route instead. So with my #17 Exacto blade chisled the buttons, dials & displays off. Didn't even cut myself, though came close several times. My major refernce is a Pod build I saw at R.I. Sorry can't remember the name but will look it up & add a link. Its the best Pod Ive seen & was fully lit. Anyway, phase 1 complete.
RE: Lost In Space Pod - DarthDuck - 02-23-2010 Very cool Jase. Damien's was the last build I recall seeing and I totally loved it! Just saying I'll look forward to seeing another one finally. Have fun and keep us posted!
RE: Lost In Space Pod - Damien9479 - 02-24-2010 Yeah I really wish that photo-etch set was out when I did my client's It came out right after I got done with the damn thing
RE: Lost In Space Pod - JAWS - 02-25-2010 Damien can you post some pictures of your build? Please? Do you have any reference on this sucker? can't find squat! RE: Lost In Space Pod - Damien9479 - 02-25-2010 As far as reference pics...I couldn't find squat either ![]() I just went by the paint guide on the back of the instructions...they are accurate as far as I know My client is a HUGE Irwin Allen fan and he said the colors and overall look for the build I did was spot on ![]() The only after market set I used on the build I did was the TSDS Inc. decal sheet which is far better than the kit supplied decals...it has more details Here are some pics of the one I did RE: Lost In Space Pod - JAWS - 02-26-2010 Damn mate thats really nice work. You been holding out on us mate! I think you should post some more stuff... RE: Lost In Space Pod - 427 Cobra - 02-26-2010 I agree! This looks like the pictures on the box should. Very professionally done! ~ Cobra Chris |
