Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-16-2009 Just landed on the bench. Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica shuttle masterd by Sean c, ryan c & cast by Mike salzo. What an awspome kit. The mail man came unusually late & after a couple of Johnny Walkers this is a fantastic end to the day. When I picked the box I was like, shit the fucken customs have stolen my Shuttle. I put it on the bench & proceeded to open very carefully. Low & behild US supermarket catalogues wrapping some very well cast resin that was amazingly light. Thanks Sean, Ryan & Mike for an early Christmas present Very happy indeed. This kit rocks. The first of a few Salzo kits on my list
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - Wombat - 11-16-2009 Bloody good to see another one of these make it down here. I'm glad it's there dude,it's a most impressive kit,the boy's really did a fantastic job with this one! Least i know now that there will be at least one being built now! RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - 3d-builder - 11-16-2009 OMG that looks gorgeous.........you have a serious amount of parts to sort! Look forward to watching tis take shape! RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-17-2009 Ive had to evict the boss as Im running out of space. he packed up his stuff. he was pretty short. this was his 'work' bench. Lucky my son loves me building the stuff... I didn't even want to look in the bags yet! RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - erospawn - 11-17-2009 Oh wow... that looks pretty awesome! I'd love to have one, but can't really afford it right now. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - dbhs - 11-17-2009 Oh man - that's awesome. So fun to get a new kit and start drooling over the parts..... I can't wait for mine. Seems a little too simple with how you've laid the parts out. A testament to good kit design I guess. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-18-2009 Just cleaned off my bench to lay this out & start clean up. Really looking forward to this build. Its just such a great kit. More pictures soon. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - 79 Daytona - 11-22-2009 COOL!!!! Can't wait to see your build up of this kit, I also have one which i hope to start on soon. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-24-2009 Well thought it was time to get the bags open & get some sorting done. Have been pre-occupied setting up the site, work ,kids, wife, dogs, robbery & other things that haven't allowed me to concentrate on modeling. Its time to take a back seat & let things roll. I decided to break out the Shuttle parts & get an idea of what needs to happen first. The amount of work the boys have had to put into this kit is mind boggleing & to cast this could only be done by a master. While there is a bit of clean up required the pieces are all moulded very well. This is going to be one very massive build. Time to get out the scalpals & nail files... One of 2 bags that were sent The major pieces awaiting some love The second of the 2 bags cracked open on the work bench The decals. These look fresh boys. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - dbhs - 11-24-2009 Sweet !!!
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - Wombat - 11-24-2009 Cool, bout time we got to see one of these built up from the start. Did you get your decals with the kit Jase or did they come separately? RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-24-2009 Did you get your decals with the kit Jase or did they come separately?
I only just noticed they were in with the kit. I'd be guessing yours won't be far away. I need to start looking closely at the refference photos for this build. theres alot more parts than I expected. This is going to be so kool & challengeing. Good practice before tackleing the big girl
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-25-2009 Well on my feet still think I need a bench stool to sit down once & a while when Im working. Just stood at the bench for nearly 3 hours cleaning up the parts for this little monster. Theres some bloody work to figure out just where they all go cause other than a few of the obvious parts I goit no frign idea Oh well thats what I like doing the most in life, jumping in the deep end. Just a couple of small bits not sure if they broken or not, they look like small steps. We'll find out later. Everything else is in good order & just needs some tidy up with the nail file. I'll do each piece as I need it. There all pretty tidy & ready for fase 3 of operations.
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - dbhs - 11-26-2009 Nice. I like your organization. Esecially helpful when you've got as many projects at the same time as you do. Not sure how you do it. I get crazy if I have more than a couple going at once. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - DarthDuck - 11-26-2009 Um? I see a lot of parts? So, then there are no instructions, available, anywhere? ![]() Hell. If I was faced with that I think we'd all be seeing me make a Gundam out of em?
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - dbhs - 11-26-2009 Instructions are just a 'suggestion' anyway. Paint all the parts a different color then glue them on randomly like an art car. That will be cool. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-26-2009 No instructions. There will be a 'Build Thread' by the makers at some stage at RI, but other than that its all refference initiated. Organising & sorting is a habit which is also part of my job at work. I have one last purchase before the end of the year which is another Big kit from Salzo. The Viper... Then thats it until these current projects are off the bench. I also need to buy a house next year so some careful planning is needed to pull that off. Guess that means sacrificeing hobby expenditures... RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-26-2009 Ok so Ive done 'preliminary' clean up on most parts & the project is on the bench. I now will search the various sites( http://www.modelermagic.com/ & its forum Resin Illuminati) for refference material. Im blown away by the amount of parts on this build. I now want refference on the models lighting as well as where to put the parts. I am also waiting for a special package from a good friend that must arrive before too much progress happens on this build. I just want to mention how impressed I have been with the generosity & friendships I have made in a short time. People I once thought of as gods(and still do) are now friends & associates. This is what its all about. Happy modelling a 'Happy Thanks Giving' to those in the US & Canada. To everyone else I Hope they have a 'Merry Christmas' with a fantastic New Year. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - 79 Daytona - 11-27-2009 Great start jasonwright!! I got to start taking notes for when i do my. And Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to you as well.
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - jockdeboer - 11-27-2009 Looking good Jason! How big is that thing? RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - Wombat - 11-27-2009 Good stuff there Jase. Look's like you've gotten the crappy side outa the way pretty much and now it's onto the betta side of building. Theres a couple of really awesome picture's posted at RI by OTIST and some good picture's in the Mike S shuttle thread there also. Those OTIST picture's are just the best ya gonna get of the top and starboard side to work from mate! They are just that good, although you've probably seen them already by now? RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-28-2009 Thanks guys. I have seen those photos Phil & have downloaded them & have also sent a PM asking if its ok to post them here. As there are no instructions the photos are the instructions. ive been chekn em out & it all looks pretty clear. If theres any worries theres people to ask. When you going to get on yours mate. I know you been busy making lists but you need something else to fill in the time. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - Wombat - 11-28-2009 I know i really should have made a start on this one by now and it's not like me to get a kit that i wanna do and just let it sit around. The listing is pretty much done for the other project and i've started cutting part's from the sprue's.Even that's still causing some problems though as some of the stuff listed ain't the correct part's and i'm now finding myself hunting through all those map list's again trying to find that part so i can then go look at it on the map's and see what is actually required. Maybe a day or two away from it all and some time on the shuttle might be a good thing? RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-28-2009 I highly recomend not sitting there too long doing what your doing. Break it up with some building. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - Wombat - 11-28-2009 Well i might just play around with it a little today perhaps? But in saying that i've still got around 75 more kit's to be cutting up and i also want to get some more pictures for the kit scan section before cutting those kit's up.Unfortunately i've already attacked some without taking the picture's already though. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - dbhs - 11-28-2009 Phil, Isn't cutting the parts off of the sprues now a little risky? How will you keep them organized? Keeping them grouped by where they are going on the model? RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-28-2009 I believe Phil's spent the last week or two making comprehensive lists of kit parts used in each section that has been id & bagging them seperately per kit. Im pretty sure he's also been writing the numbers on the back of the kit pieces as I will be casting all the pieces. I have already done most of the Rocco's. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - Wombat - 11-28-2009 ^^ Doug,i've been doing as Jase just described but it's been total's of each part that i'm listing. Each part is going in a seperate bag,on that bag i'm listing which kit,the part number and an X amount that is required for the build, then I check it off my list with a highlight marker to make sure i didn't miss anything hopefully.Doing the listing has taken weeks and it'll take some time to cut all these part's from there sprue's,but that's nothing compared to what the poor bugger is gonna have to do to mould and cast all this stuff up! Sorry for getting this thread a lttle off topic,Jase. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-28-2009 Nar its all good. SS BSG related anyhoo RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - dbhs - 11-28-2009 Sounds like a kit is in the works? RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - Wombat - 11-28-2009 Not to sure about any kit's but,Jase will have a lot of mould's for at least one particular build that i'm sure he'll be happy to do casting's of for anyone wanting em.That's after he make's a set for someone that's going to do the same build also and the one's i need some multiples of that is!
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - dbhs - 11-29-2009 It's great to see you guys working together on this. It would be fun to help out or participate if I could but there's no way to tackle something like that anytime soon. I look forward to seeing progress. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Gallactica Shuttle - JAWS - 11-29-2009 Its all good Doug. Shareing & working together is what its all about. I will have moulds of pretty much every piece needed & will be buying all the 'Donor' kits I can for various builds over the next year & on. Im happy to cast parts to help builders out with their builds. Its fun & Ive just taken this part of the hobby up because of that. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 12-15-2009 All right you buggers are all over this kit now so Ive cleared all the stuff off the bench again & am here with ya's Gonna print out the refference pictures & start sorting some parts into areas ie: Top, Rear, Port, Starboard, Hull & Engines. Wish the Somalian pirates would release my armiture...
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - dbhs - 12-15-2009 Very cool. I put the little bits in tupperwear too. Don't want anything breaking or getting lost. I found a part that looks just like a casting of a tiny metal staple. Kind of like the ones in a staple gun to pin up fliers. Is this a real part or just flash that happened to be that shape? It's super tiny. I'll post a pic later on. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 12-15-2009 Doug I believe thats broken off another part that looks like the steps off the Sea Lab III kit. The same part used as the baffles on the Star Destroyer Devastator. I'll go & check that later. I might have actually found a piece for the boys on their Shuttle Parts Map So Ive mad a relatively good start. This is quite good fun & somewhat stressfully relaxing Almost like doing a 3 dimensional jigsaw puzzle So getting sorted & the back decks almost found & in place. These parts will go into their own container. Its so good to have benches stuff can just be left out on & know no kids , wives or dogs are going to disturb the order of my kaos
RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 12-15-2009 Doug. The answer to your question is they are parts #32 on the Top hull where the two halves meet. It says they are Morser Karl arts. Look on the Parts Map. They look like Sea Lab parts also... RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - dbhs - 12-15-2009 I think that's it. Good catch. I hope i can find the rest of it.... RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 12-16-2009 Doug i got about 5 or so in my package.. Not 100% sure how many are needed. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - 79 Daytona - 12-16-2009 WOW!! This is so COOL!!! RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - dbhs - 12-16-2009 (12-16-2009, 06:54 AM)jasonwright.1972 Wrote: Doug i got about 5 or so in my package.. Not 100% sure how many are needed. Thanks, Jase. I need to start cleaning up and sorting my parts. I'll let you know what I end up with. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 12-17-2009 So that would be 2on top at the centre join & 2 underneath in same location. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - Wombat - 12-19-2009 (12-17-2009, 07:22 AM)jasonwright.1972 Wrote: So that would be 2on top at the centre join & 2 underneath in same location. The way i'm seeing it Jase,is there are the two between the front and rear body halves on top and also two are used on the antenna assembly. ![]() But there could be other spots i haven't seen yet also? RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 12-19-2009 Antenna! Doh haven't looked at that structure yet... RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 01-08-2010 Wife just called me to let me know a package just turned up. Its mine & Phils armatures we been waiting for!!! WOOT WOOT!!! Photos coming when I get home. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - 79 Daytona - 01-09-2010 COOL!!!! Can't wait to see it. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - JAWS - 01-17-2010 Sorry for the delay. I fianlly screwed my armature to the bench to do some work. This was greatfully sent from far away. It is I believe in the form of the original armature used on the studio model. Most of you guys are opting for a more extensive armature which is awsome. The reality of it is I will most likely only ever display this in one style which will be from beneath. I am also toying with the idea of building a Galactica deck base & displaying this as it would be on the deck. I also found what might be suitable lighting & sockets for the engines like Dougy 's using. The interior lighting is something I need to check out before fnalising my build options. RE: Studio Scale Battlestar Galactica Shuttle - dbhs - 01-17-2010 That's looking great, Jase. I can't remember if I mentioned on my thread or not but while I'm thinking about it I wanted to point out that my pipes were just a little out of alignment in the front and the back and I was able to adjust this by putting a few layers of masking tape right here to straighten it out. Worked like a charm. Just FYI, in case you need to do the same. |
