This is truely something to be extremely proud of.
Up there with the best builds i think i've ever seen done.. So clean and sharp.. Fantastic job again, Rick!
I appreciate the kind words. All the hard work in the past year to get the model and display finished in time for WonderFest paid off. It was a big hit. More photos and videos of this model were taken than can be counted. Every time I walked into the room, there were people huddled around it. It was fun watching people enjoy seeing it, as well as talking to people about it.
We just got back from our vacation. The SD model traveled well over 1000 miles. The road got very bumpy at times, but she made it home in one piece (relief)! What are the plans for it now? Well, Patrick Read Johnson is currently in the midst of a major fund raising drive to finish 5-25-77. If he can, and the film is released soon, then this SD and other models that I made for the film will be used as promotional pieces. This has already happened once. I was interviewed for a behind the scenes featurette, and I built a 'set' that had the SD and three models used in the film as set dressing. They will also be used in any other interviews having to do with the film. I'm also planning on having them displayed in a theater on the eventual release day. After that, I will build a permanent display booth much like the one my second SD was displayed in during the Chicago Museum exhibit tour: http://rickingalsbestudio.com/Part%201/exhibit_3.jpg

Glad to read both you and that SD made it home in one piece. Bet there is always quite some concern transporting something as fragile and delicate as your baby. It's great WF was such a hit and by all accounts very self rewarding having such a response to it after all the work to get her done in time. Well done, Rick!
Hope all goes well with the fund raising to get the picture out there finally. Be very fitting after all this time. Perhaps they can set up a site where donations can be made like i've seen for other productions trying to raise money to get there films off the ground?

Actually, there is this site: https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/1JIQb
All along I've been saying that this model does not need to have every last accurate kit part to be complete. However, there have always been pieces that I wanted it to have from the beginning that I was not able to get before WonderFest. Now, since WF I've been able to get most of those parts to replace what I had on the model. Nine areas have been updated all over the ship. The most obvious changes are in the first picture. I had to strip half the details off the port side wall to do this.
I want to send out a big THANKS to Craig for selling me the parts from the hard to find Bandai 1/24 Panther G. Instead of repeating some photos, previous shots comparing my replica to the real thing were replaced on previous pages of this thread. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm glad you could put them to good use when I couldn't! I love your lighting when you take these beauty photos. It really highlights an awesome model.

Yet, I still have some pieces I got from you that I am unable to replace because the areas where those parts belong are too delicate, and much risk would be involved in removing the stand-in pieces. If I feel brave enough someday I might just try it, but for now I just can't do it. It was relatively easier to replace the parts shown. Not many more areas where I want to replace pieces I know I can remove safely.

You were damn brave doing what you did.
Few would know, but I bet you love looking at her with the changes just a lil bit more as you pretend your the Blockade Runner. |
