OK I finally have a shed and have set up a bit of a work place to do some modelling again. Time to do the Viper I bought from Jase long ago. First pic is the work area.
Don't have a before pic but these parts had a ton of resin that I needed to get off. As I don't have a bench sander I had to improvise and clamped my orbital sander to the bench and made quick work sanding off the extra resin tho I had to be carful as only had a coarse sanding belt.
OK what I have seen on most builds and this is probably screen accurate is the front of the viper looks to be sticking up and not strait with the engines etc. This pic I have exaggerated it to show what I mean.
With mine in the pic below I have sanded a few areas so I can try to get it as straight as possible with the engines and wings. Havent done much else so more next weekend if I get time.
Thanks mate. That is the pic I was using and yes sticks up a bit but wanted mine strait. Also I noticed that the wings are real close to the engines and the nose or the detail that is beside the guns is further back. Hard to explain but with the kit the gun is further back.
Can someone please help. On the attached I have an arrow to a small part that runs around the front of the 2nd motor. These are not on mine and wondering what they are so I can put them on, thanks.
Thanks mate that's what I'm thinking after looking through as much reference as I could find. I'm away from home for a few more days as I will check the kit as I think there might be some with it or it might be t channel for the cockpit. Might be both there. Hay lucky you are on here as it might get lonely haha
It has the t strip and wire for the back of the engines. There should be some at my hobby store. Does it come in many sizes or should it be easy to notice.

started on the rear plate. Could not find to much screen shots but did find this one below of someone's build up of the rear plate. Not sure if its the way they were done or if it maybe hero pyro etc. Anyway did mine with the wire that came with the kit and did it how I like it. nothing glued yet. Pics below.
The originals had those parts casted on. Mike also used to do that for a while but had issues with the pipes breaking. I plan to make them how they were made on the originals when I get back to that pattern. It will also be a hollow kit.

It should have been taped to the underside of the lid with the T Strip used for the Canopy?
Mate just looked at my local hobby store (toy world) and they only had 1 size c channel and it was too big. Do you have any spare and I can pay for postage etc. Wont need much.

OK I bought the Leopold as I was thinking of using it to make new guns for this kit and what do you know, only 1 of the parts was in it.
Anyway doesn’t matter now as its going to cost me too much for the phantom for the gun barrel as I think I would need 2 kits.
I’m going to try very carefully cut off the barrel just after the winged part and maybe drill thru it and up into the main part so I can use brass pipe.

Mate funny you say that as I was looking thru it to see if there was anything in it for the y-wing when I noticed the little cover that goes in front of the canopy on the viper shown below with one from the kit. I was very happy as the 2 that came with the kit are not much good so now I at least have one. I think there might have been one on the under side as well but not sure with my reference.

From what I can make out on one or more of them they simply covered the bottom mount hole with a piece of colour matched tape of some kind. The bottom mount on the originals is just aft of what would be the front landing gear doors.
Just looking at that b&w shot above I looks like the top and bottom mount points line up. You can actually see the tape on the bottom in that shot.

OK as one of the guns was snapped and the other bent and the phantom11 kit to pricy I decided to use brass pipe. Got this pipe from eBay 3,4,5,6 & 8mm at 200mm long for only $9.25 delivered.
Yes there not screen accurate but I like them. Cut off the barrel part then drilled a 3mm hole up there to take the 3mm pipe.

Should have been some taped to the underside lid of the box? With T Strip?

OK done some work on the cockpit and was not fun.
I only have them sitting there. Im thinking of gluing the cockpit together but not to the model then carefully cutting of the part that is part of the casting so then I can remove the cockpit to make painting easier. then I can glue the cockpit on after painting.
Does this make sense. what are your thoughts.

That detail should be on the cans?

I will send replacements.
No problem.
Please querie problems if found...
I ibvioysly sent some spares not realising.
Apolagies
Jase don't send anything. The can is glued in pretty well so I thought fuck it. Below is pics of what I did. Only one side done and it was a bitch to do but im happy with it.
