I tried this out when decided that I hate Bondo, and it was too messy! It doesn't clean up with water, and it's a health hazard. It's also made for cars flat surfaces,so making highly detailed parts are impossible with it. It chunks out while scraping, and it sands hard.
Elmers' brand woodfiller works just as well,it's waterbased, and it dries hard as a rock after a few days. It comes in multiple colours, white, red, brown, and light brown.
The only reason I didn't use white is,because I couldn't see which was filler, and which was plastic. I needed this to get into small spaces where glue is impractical. Putties are worthless,as they become brittle,or they need to be fired. Elmers' is cheap, easy to find anywhere, and it works beautifully! If the woodfiller is too thick, just thin it with water when filling small gaps,or making details smooth. You'll want to sand it with dry 600 grit, once dry - not wet,as this softens it,and makes it wash out.
Elmers dries in fifteen minutes, but it's not hard enough to sand out for about an hour. If you make a mistake, you can wash it off,and start over. You can add more later if you have a hole,or two after this has dried. There's no odor to contend with,so you can use it anywhere inside your house. Try it out on your next project. I guarantee you'll love it!
