For a lot of reasons, no replica will ever match the original exactly. The original structure was a bit sloppy and asymmetrical in nearly every area. For example, each arm was slightly different.
In creating a replica that could be turned into a "kit" of sorts, it was not practical to recreate this level of asymmetry. As a result, compromises will have to be made here and there throughout the ship.
Still, I think yours is the closest so far in terms of accuracy. You have paid attention to the smallest of details and the work so far has been very clean. I know you think it is not that great, but compared to just about every other project out there, it is really top-notch. And, like you said, when it is finished, no one will be able to tell the difference. It will definitely look like a battlestar!
