At the time I was building the mock-ups I had a lot of balsa on hand leftover from various RC ship and plane projects plus the hardware store in town carries it as well so I had a good continuing supply of it.
Blame Charles for the mock-ups he is the one who got me started on them. lol Also it was easier for me to figure out proper angles, sizes and parts fit with the mock-ups and build the real deal once.
