Hi guys. I've been into studio scale type models for a couple of years. Somehow stumbled on RPF and RI forums, and found out I could actually buy and build resin models that weren't on the market. Woohoo!
I've been interested in history and building plastic models, mostly of armor, most my life. When Star Wars came out and I saw the sketchbook I knew what I wanted to do. Whatever Joe Johnston did to get that job I wanted to do too.
Art was my favorite subject in high school. When I decided to go on to college, I found out that industrial design was what I should get into. So I decided to go to CCS in Detroit. It was and is a well known school for auto designers. I studied ID for a couple of years, dropped out, went back and studied product design, then auto design. Well, the Joe Johnston dream didn't exactly come true, and I really disliked the car industry by the time I graduated. Some friends I went to school with went on to work on Episode I and II, and one of them is now at pixar...
So now I design shoes for Fila for the past 15 years and subsidize my model habit that way. Living vicariously through others quite a bit. And recently I've been very lazy. Looking forward to getting back into it. Some of the problem is that I live in a smallish studio apartment in New York City for the last 5 years. Not much space for models or storage. The models are made on the kitchen table, and hopefully I can prime and airbrush outside. Not too easy in the winter. The plan for the future will be to build during the colder months and save the big painting jobs for the odd warm day or next spring.
