Question for the collective.
I am looking at the fiber optic install for my Battlestar and figuring out what size hole to drill for 1mm fiber. It has to do with the small square plastic “chips” that surrounds every fiber. I am thinking they drilled a slightly larger hole in the model, then drilled a 1mm hole in the small plastic chip. This gives a bit more space for the glue to go. But I’ve never seen/heard anyone talk about the small chips around the fiber. Does anyone know why they are there? Is it as I am guessing or some other reason? I never particularly liked how they looked. Was considering drilling 1mm holes in the model and then lensing the fiber end and gluing directly to the model without the chips.
Comments, thoughts??
