Wow Joe that is looking just too kool. Maybe you could get the head 3D printed. Your doing whats needed with these CGI's. To get stuff cut Laser Cut they have to be 'Vector' drawings. So Adobe Illustrator, AutoCad etc are all good. I just taught myself Illustrator. Ive had it for years & never bothered with it cause I could do everything I wanted in PhotoShop. Not any more. Ive got few things I want cut properly.

I'll look into it, and either put em up uncompressed, or zip them on a PC instead. Cheers Niels (06-07-2010, 06:12 PM)jasonwright.1972 Wrote: Wow Joe that is looking just too kool. Thanks Jase, Unfortunately, the head will be so big, it would cost a small fortune to get it printed. Once I get the 3D version done, I'll have all the curves figured out. Then I can build it for real. With the pattern built I can roto cast any copies needed. That is the plan anyway, I need to get a vector program myself. Lightwave doesn't output the files I'd need for laser cutting. I really want to have some Galactica and tanker stuff laser cut eventually. Autocad bakes my gourd, LOL. I thought I was smart till I tried to use that piece a crap, Kudos to anyone who can figure that thing out. It's beyond my brain power. I'm using the 3D stuff just as a guide right now. Some guys are great sculptors. They can build a part by eye, and just cut styrene and make the part. I need a little more help than that, Cheers,Joe (06-08-2010, 09:45 PM)KrokoHunter Wrote: hmmm weird Thanks Man, I was wondering which issue of S and F that article was in. Someone posted a few pages from it a while back. I want to get that back issue. I have a lot of issues before they changed the name and format. That was such a great magazine. Of course they had to go and screw it up, Figures, that's why we can't have anything nice, Cheers,Joe

Yea man, I know lots a people that love it, I just can't figure it out. I think it's the interface. It's not very intuitive. I need more hand holding in a program. I like the features of something like Solid works. But who can afford that bee'otch, LOL. Oh well, I'll do it old school. Until I get enough lettuce for Solid Works, Cheers,Joe

It's definitely a pain in the ass sometimes. I'm lucky that I learned it way back when it was fairly simple. Now there's 10 different ways to do the same thing and they redesign the icons and interface every year. I have to create and enforce CAD standards at work and it's such a pain to keep everyone on a team doing things the same way.

Why they have to totally change software just to add new features, baffles me. I'm lucky with Lightwave. They update it all the time, but they try to keep the interface familiar. I really want to get into CNC stuff here at the shop. I know I'm gonna have to learn some kind of cad system, to be able to have the drawings for the G code program to use. I want to at least have a 3 axis router, and hopefully a plasma cutter. I hope I can come up with something to do both. I can't afford any of the machines they sell out there. Even the 4 x 4 foot Plasmacam is over 10 grand. I want at least an 4 x 8 foot machine. I'll end up building it myself. The hard part for me will be the controller boards and software. Oh well, thats what time and money are for. Can't take it with you, Cheers,Joe

Hey Man, I've been having tests, trying to figure out whats goin on with my back and innards. I hope to hear back from the Dr. this week. Hope he has some good news, or any news. Can't stand being in pain all the time. Really sucks the life out of life. My computer got hit by lightning about a month ago. So I'm only able to get online when visiting family or friend's. Laptop was only 14 months old. Luckily the hard drive survived. You would have heard me scream, all the way down under, if I lost all that data. I bought a refurbed Dell and hope to be back at it soon. I've been poking my head in from time to time to see whats, what. I can't wait to actually start building some of these models. I'm still collecting kits as I can. I just want to start gluing plexi together on the shell. Then I'll really have started. Thanks for asking bud, I'll be back in the action soon, Cheers, Joe

Ok so any updates Joe. Am really looking forward to you getting this on the bench. Oh you will need 2 benches now won't you.
Not yet man,
Still getting the new computer together. Gotta get Lightwave set up, and get all my files together. There's a problem with getting info on the underside of this beastie. I may have to ad lib. Unless some new photos pop up on her. I have a few, but need more angles to get the parts I'ded. Well we'll be pretty close anyway. Enough for govt work as they say, Cheers,Joe P.S. I do have 2 and a half benches, so I'm good there, ![]()

Are you still working on this, Joe? I was hoping to see an update. I know you're busy, but I hope you haven't given up on this.

Hey Chris, thanks for asking about this. My computer got killed a while back. I bought a small refurb desktop, but it's not up to doing Lightwave too well. I haven't given up, but just hit a snag, I need some key parts ID's in the nose section. So far that nose section is being a bear. I want to get this thing pretty close so I can build an accurate SS model of her. I would love to be able to rotocast the nose section. It's definitely the only real hard part of this model. Again thanks for the interest. I'll hopefully have a better computer soon, that can handle the program. Cheers,Joe |
