I was lucky enough to have a friend find me one of these Timeslip kits the other week. A lot to do, but my first task was to start roughing out the gun tubes to allow the correct donor parts to fit.
Its a task in itself as you have to back the tube with enough meat (epoxy sculpt) so you can then go in all brutal with some grinding tools.
They still need cleaning up, but once they are, ill be going hammer and tongs at the actual good stuff.
All too be topped off with the wonderful hue of vintage Reefer Orange developed by Archive-X, really excited at the thought of painting this one.

I hope so Jase haha. A lot to do and figure out, but nothing I can't handle.
Got to reign myself in and make a clean build of it but the Reefer orange being developed by Archive-X makes me just WANT to get to paint fast, it's beautiful and matches the prop the so well.
I'll make sure I keep updating my progress here buddy.

Really looking forward to you finishing this build , to have an enamel and acrylic versions being painted at the same time will be very interesting  to see how they turn out, the Reefer orange in this pic is if a new sample in the acrylic  waterborne version being developed but you'll be using the more traditional enamel

This swatch is over a lighter grime  base coat from one of the many grime variants I have

It's a good way of controlling the aged look of the reefer Orange as opposed to straight out just painting over any primer. It's hue changes drastically with light and background, such a wonderful vintage colour

Guy it's just a very exciting time. Accurate hues and all matched expertly by pigment. No digital crossover to hang up or hamper the process.
The Reefer swatch in solvent the you popped over with was just perfect too.
Just the remainder of the other opposing orange to find, but doing the research correctly and ONLY looking for paint before 1979, it should narrow the field down by a ton.
It's a great time to be actually painting studio scale models, so many builds i the near future are too g
oing to benefit from all the hard work and countless hours put in.
It will be very cool to see the future development of these acrylic colours too, the Bandai painters will I'm sure be very keen to start using them.

youd be surprised , so many studio scalers are requesting it , much more than I thought. It will be nice to please as many folk as I can with the hue being priority as opposed to just the Product .

That's a good sign then for the acrylic line. The orange in this line certainly looks very good indeed, even though yes....its the enamel based weapon I'll be using.
It's the difference between looking at a jar of wet paint, and actually using this paint on a manner true to the miniatures.
I'm glad I'll get to test these theories while keeping very busy in the little toy room

It is indeed mate. I see a lot of nice Twin pod cars coming at some point, what with the NiceN kit too.
You can sit back some soon and get some building and painting done....thats where the fun is at.

Cutting all the relevant holes begins. Want to try get the wing mounts done as soon as possible now so I can get to the major clean up.

Lee, looks great, keep it going. Your color experimentation is incredible and looks identical to the mini, I can't wait to see that color applied to your build. For whatever reason I've always had an affinity for this ship. I think it is one of the more interesting designs in the OT.

Roughed out mounting. Can start making it pretty now. Wings are mounted via wooden blocks shaped to the hull and screwed in. Should be nice and strong.

YES.....the first of the paint is ready...cant wait mate. Yes hoping it won't all take too long now, quite a bit to clean up and fettle but all easier work now.

Finally starting to lay down primer on this one. Its took a lot of flatting back to negate the pits and marks in the resin, but able to move forward a bit now.
Should be a lovely hue of Reefer orange soon. Need to get her done for a show in November.

Laying down the darker panels now. I chose Rust, to do this.
It's not an adjacent orange, more so a weathering Color to break up the hull, seems to work very well too.
Once these are all done, various misting with grime will add further age and tone definition.

Thanks Shawn. It's starting to become more fun now after all the nasty stuff draws to a close.
The paints are making it look a lot better in having the right hues, but also hard in the fact all ref material is not all that defining.
It's cool to be slapping on what I think is correct though.

The paints are impressive. But still gotta be able to use them.
No different than trying to replicate say the Mona Lisa.
Seems to be the new craze. Not that it wasn't before, but we're definately seeing a higher grade of work these days. In regards to painting replicas.

So very true Jase. It's the using them for actual model painting that really throws up some great discussion and, discovery.
So many of the hues change a lot over various basecoats which takes the research so much further than simply making swatch cards now.
Just this model alone, and one color (Rust) threw up a great find.
I'm doing my best with them but can' wait to see some of the more blessed artists using them in anger.

Some are obvious and some are obvious then you paint em and realise your totally wrong, you really have to paint a lot and paint thin layers to replicate ilm stuff, this is when the RND Changes again

Working backwards with weathering layers to study the lower base colour of panels is fun and frustrating

Just last week I was messing with the A-wing red, it's very hard to be sure from ref and I e studied it more than once !! But painting a certain red over the white gets you near exact to the filming mini, Ive had the swatch fir months and disregarded it !! But seeing it in a thinner layer as per the model is brings very different results

It's never conclusive and never fact and doesn't matter it's about fun and hopefully a great looking model based on actual research be it correct or fiction there's never going to be an answer but logic and a narrowed ball park, I'm hoping to narrow a few ballparks to about 30ml pots :-)

Thanks guys, that' nice to hear. She may not be perfect but its a lot of fun.

The hues just worked so well on this. All did the job fantastically, Boxcar red was truly a wonderful addition. As for Gold Leader hues, yes sure just talk to Guy.
TBH the best thing to do would be buy the 25 part legacy set, that only omits the green that Guy seems to have now found, but shoot him a message buddy and he can always tailor something to your needs.
