Executor - leukirix - 03-05-2012

Hi at all,

After a long time, I study executor. I will try to build Executor, studioscale dimensions. I don't know if it's possible to build a perfect studioscale, because too much parts : plasticard cut, kit parts... But I will try...
Executor measures 280x90x30cm, but a friend say measures in the book "Chronicle" are fake...
Thanks at man to the Executor pictures place in web and here with kits scan. About kits used by ILM, on the top, I indentified at this time battleship Tamiya 1/700 scale :

RE: Executor - kbilly - 03-05-2012

This will be so hard! But good luck!

RE: Executor - dbhs - 03-05-2012

Wow. This will be a huge challenge. Even if every detail in not there, just being in studio scale will be amazing.

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-05-2012

ThanksSmile

I see marder 1A2 1/35 scale Tamiya... About part n°1 picture above, it would marder 1A2 but 1/72 scale, but what model ? Revell ? Italery ? I don't search in web... Confused
What do you think ?

RE: Executor - MonsieurTox - 03-05-2012

This is really a cool model to ID and it's not that hard because most of the models are common to the Star Destroyer.

You'll need several Revell Midway carriers (1/542), unfortunatly it's OOP (and I bought them all for my Star Destroyer TongueP).

You also need several 1/87 Roco Gepard (easy to find).

The big problem on this one is the lack of reference :/ And all styrene strips with cutout that were cut by a machine, I would use a vinyl plotter, draw several pattern in illustrator or corel draw then get thousand of strips cut !

Best of luck for this one Franck ! Smile

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-06-2012

Thanks Julien,
I ask me what are the long parts, I had seen several boats, but I don't find Revell Midway 1/542 scale, thank you. I correct gepar flakpanzer 1/35 Tamiya > 1/87 Roco Gepard. I drew the plans, I have Gepar flak turret 1/35, and I didn't check... Mdrr !
I search marder 1A2 1/72 (1/76) scale, but I find Revel marder 1A3 l/72 scale... May be 1/87 Herpa/Roco ??
But Roco model are kits with parts or die cast ??

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-06-2012

I find Big Grin part n°3 : jagdpanzerkanone 1/87 Roco...Tongue

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-08-2012

Help to this parts please... An idea ?Confused

RE: Executor - JAWS - 03-09-2012

Morser Carl Liekirix

RE: Executor - LastBattlestar - 03-09-2012

The curved arm to the bottom right of the Karl part might be from the Tamiya Flakvierling also?

Mike

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-09-2012

Sh... I looked moser karl, and I haden't seen !!!Confused
Thanks !Big Grin
But about flakvierling, the part is almost similar, but some differents... I see to another scale or other modeler...Blush

RE: Executor - MonsieurTox - 03-10-2012

This is indeed the trailer from the Tamiya Flakvierling38, another part from this kit is also glued on the Saturn V can (this is a rectangular box with the wheel cutout and a raised cross on it). It looks like there's a 1/700 tamiya battleship barrel glued on it.

RE: Executor - JAWS - 03-10-2012

No worries Leukirix.
This is actually one of my favorite models.
Never thought of trying to Id it as its so detailed.
Now youve started we might as well finish it ay.

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-12-2012

I search a company about photocut. I find some company in Europe... Tongue
I hope price not expensive...Cool
Thanks Jase, thank Julien, I search again...Blush

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-14-2012

photo cut price received :

10 sheet (one sheet A4 210/297mm with 22 photocut parts) : 220 parts > 320$ / 245eus (1 part, 6/8cm length = 1,45$ / 1,10eus)...
What do you think ?

Are u talking about photoetched sheet metal?
The price is not to bad I think.
BUT you will need a LOT more then 10 sheets.
I guess it more in the 200 sheet area for a model with a size like that

Let say u have to cover a length of 260cm and the cut parts are 7cm long. That makes 37 peaces just to cover 1 side 74 for both sides. With the total of 220 peace you could cover only 3 layers.

I personally would cut the peaces from styrene. You propably could get enought styrene for 200€ for the hole ship.
Maybe you could get some metal templates cut that would make it much easier to cut all the hundreds and hundreds of layers need.
Just my thought about that.
Hope it helps.
Felix

RE: Executor - MonsieurTox - 03-15-2012

Franck, what do you want to do with photoetched parts ? The layers were made from styrene on the original, they indeed used photoetched parts, but to create the windows...

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-15-2012

Photoetched to this partsBlush :

[Image: kg-ssd-executor-reference-014-Copie2.jpg]

I thought used photoetched parts because I don't see myself cutting all part one to one... Confused

How to work quickly with styrene ??? I don't idea !Huh

All these parts (and the layers of the superstructures) were cut by a computer. You can just use a CNC if you have one (pricey) or buy a vinyl plotter, you can find one for cheap. It usually cut vinyl but you can cut thin styrene (0.5mm) and score thicker styrene (1mm, I think that's what you need) then snap the parts.

RE: Executor - Flixen - 03-15-2012

I have access to an vinyl plotter.
I can't guarantee it but I might be abel to help u on that.
Let me know what u think.
Felix
Ah and another reason not to use brass or any other metall it the weight.
I did a quick test a 1mm sheet 60mm x 270mm brass weights 137g
A styrene sheet with the same size weights just 17g.
Smile

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-16-2012

Thanks Julien, thanks Flixen to help you. I mail some company to cut styrene (laser cut or other), I wait reply their. I draw 22 part on paper A4. Problem is not plotter, but cut...

RE: Executor - MonsieurTox - 03-16-2012

I would avoid laser cutting, it requires a lot of cleaning (the styrene tends to melt).

What do you mean by "problem is not plotter but cut" ? FYI a vynil plotter cuts...

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-17-2012

Yes Julien, probably, I asked some company, I received some reply...

"What do you mean by "problem is not plotter but cut" ? FYI a vynil plotter cuts..."
I don't understand, Julien, my english is rotten !!!

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-24-2012

Good news ! Big Grin I find company to laser cut...
Picture when I received parts.Smile

RE: Executor - JAWS - 03-27-2012

cant eait for some pics!
Have you cut the hull yet?

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-27-2012

No, building no start. I search kit and laser cut/photoetched.
Before to start building I've some work to my houseBlush : two new rooms, a new workshop to my job and after I start building Executor... Tongue September I think.Confused

RE: Executor - Aurora - 03-28-2012

Try using ponoko a cnc cutting service charges about $.50 per minute just need to supply the files

RE: Executor - JAWS - 03-28-2012

When i get stuff laser cut they can use nearly any type of file. Even a PDF.

RE: Executor - leukirix - 03-28-2012

I find a company. I must give file Autocad 97 to laser cut and PDF to photoetched. I used 2 possibility : laser cut and photoetched, I order 440 parts : 220 parts styrene 1mm and 220 parts photoetched 0,4mm and in addition I used rest after cut, 500 parts additional probably.

RE: Executor - leukirix - 10-29-2012

Hi guy's...Big Grin

I begin the job... I build bottom and axe, plans finished, my first plans are wrong, so I restart !
I've some kits, but I must to buy 12503,25 other kits again !!!Tongue

RE: Executor - JAWS - 10-29-2012

Welcome back Leukirix!
Glad to see you still chipping away at this.
Definately looking forward to updates mate.

RE: Executor - Wombat - 10-29-2012

And people think the Galactica builders are crazy!!!Smile

RE: Executor - leukirix - 10-29-2012

Thanks friends !!!Big Grin

RE: Executor - Tsophika - 10-30-2012

It all starts with an armature. This will be great!

Craig

RE: Executor - LeeS - 10-31-2012

Crazy big SS model, please keep us updated, it'll be very impressive!

RE: Executor - JAWS - 10-31-2012

Man I hope its not as long to the next update as the last!

RE: Executor - dbhs - 11-01-2012

The armature looks great. Having a strong frame inside gives you good piece of mind about the rest of the build.

RE: Executor - leukirix - 11-01-2012

Jaws say : "Man I hope its not as long to the next update as the last!"

Yes I hope too !!!Big Grin

The armature is in iron and it's heavy...

I hope when Executor will be complete, it will not be too heavy...Confused

RE: Executor - Wombat - 11-07-2012

Don't worry too much about the weight, you have some bigger issues than that!! Thats gonna be one bloody big build!!

RE: Executor - leukirix - 11-08-2012

Like said Craig "It all starts with an armature", so I had to make a special table...Big Grin

The original Executor was made in aluminium, I've take plasticard 2mm and the result is correct !

A test...

voilà voilà la suite prochainement...

RE: Executor - Tsophika - 11-09-2012

Wow!!!

RE: Executor - Wombat - 11-10-2012

Taking shape there already, nice work!!

RE: Executor - JAWS - 11-12-2012

Sick man!
This will be an epic achievement.
Keep at it Leukirix & keep posting us updates.
We love them!

RE: Executor - kbilly - 11-12-2012

Off to a great start. How long is this model??

Can't imagine how much work this model would be

RE: Executor - Mr. Wabac - 11-12-2012

The angled table is a brillant idea - ensures that you have the sides at just the right position and provides great support during construction.

The armature you have constructed looks first-rate as well.

A fabulous start for your project.

C'est Manifique !

RE: Executor - Wombat - 11-12-2012

I noticed the table and thought the same thing also.. Great idea!!!

RE: Executor - leukirix - 11-13-2012

Great thanks guy'sSmile

Pictures tomorrow. Yes I made a special table, like ILM. It's better to build correct bottom. Undecided

RE: Executor - LeeS - 11-15-2012

Well I've never seen a large model being built with an anvil :-)
Great start you're off too...

RE: Executor - leukirix - 11-15-2012

Anvil necessary to build Executor ! Absolutely ! Big Grin
