Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 03-01-2013

Ok so I haven't done squat for quite a while now as I just don't have any room & limited resources while all my gear is in storage & living with the inlaws until we buy our property.
I had the opportunity to pick up a ANH Escape Pod hull from Mr salzo who is casting up Vaderdarth's V2 ANH Escape Pod kit.
Casting is great as usual from Mr Salzo & the kit was reworked by John Curri who has given us some fantastic offerings through Nice 'N' Models.
The hull comes on 4 sections. The main body is roto cast & done very nicely. There is little detail cast on the hull sections as has been cast seperately.
On this build i will be removing the little detail there is on the sections & just leaving the plating.
The model will be then primered & painted a matt black which will be the only paint going on this piece.
The aim is to show the basic model structure with all the colored actual kit parts.
No castings what so ever will go on this model.
I will be adding the decals that were used which are being supplied by Jason Eaton from his 'ANH Decal Set'.
Just want it bare to highlight the detail process that went into the construction of the actual studio miniature.
I will then make a second Pod that will be painted to show the finished product of the studio scale process to sit side by side.

Photos will be added this evening when I get home..

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 03-02-2013

First post updated with pictures.

A little more clean up to go.
Have lined panels up from reference & will now go about removing some details that will be replaced with kit parts.
Have marked with pencil to remind me wheres what.
Nothings secured & have to figure out a mount piece.
I will put the mount where the ILM model has its.
Quite looking forward to this stress free build.

That looks pretty damn big, a coke can in the next picture please.

Should be a lot of fun doing what you are with this and will be cool seeing it naked as such when done. Will definitely explain a bit towards what goes into creating one of these sort of pieces and how it was done in the good ol days.

Keep us posted with your progress!

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 03-04-2013

Ok heres the Coke can picture Phil.
Ive removed the Saturn V housing from the bottom rocket bay.
Also those parts we haven't found yet from the hatch.
That will stay bare until I find those parts.
No substitutes....
A bit of final clean up to go where some details were & will join the bottom, hull & top cone together.
The top cap will hide the mont plug.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - 3phase - 03-04-2013

Man that thing is bigger than i thought.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 03-06-2013

Yeah she's quite a big tub.
Is going to look pretty kool in black with colored kit parts all over it.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - Wombat - 03-06-2013

That thing is a great size and yes it will look pretty damn neat with what you have planned.

BTW, any more progress on it?

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - Tsophika - 03-06-2013

Fill it with punch and let's have a party!

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 03-07-2013

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 07-10-2013

Well actually got an hour or so to do some actual modelling.

Still need to remove a couple of bits of detail but thought I would see how she is in matt black.
Can't decide whether to make it matt black or gloss white.
The gloss white would make it look more like styrene which isn't a bad concept either.
Still will be an unpainted model to show all the actual colored kit parts so any suggestions are welcome.
More pics soon, hopefully.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - darkimmitator - 07-10-2013

AWesome idea Jase . I think the different colored kit parts would show up better against a matte black background . Especially if you plan on useing the model to take pics for a parts map ( hint , hint ) !
Absolutely great to see you back on the building scene again mate . Even if it is a little bit at a time .
Keep pluging away it , and keep them fresh ideas of yours coming !

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - Tsophika - 07-11-2013

I like the contrast of the black. Even a dark grey would look nice.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 07-11-2013

I had it in primer which is what would have been on the studio model before they painted it matt black.
That did look ok also.
I think I agree on the black.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - qcfoundry - 07-12-2013

some of your donors will be originally black plastic.
i vote you should find a PINK primer.
that will help make all of the donors visually "pop" better.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 07-12-2013

Now now Q lets keep it real.

So I actually have all my donors except for a few parts under my bead with my Sea LabS.
This may turn out to be the easiest build I ever do.

Will post some picture's with sexy orange details later tonight with any luck.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 07-12-2013

So I actually kept these out of storage to work on my scratch build(which I will still complete).
Most here, have to jump in the storage shed & find my truck chasis & some other odd bits n pieces but most is here.

RE: Vaderdarth-Salzo-JC V2 ANH Escape Pod - JAWS - 07-14-2013

So looking at the parts & the ones I still need to retrieve from storage I think the black will be too strong & wash out some of the kit parts going on.
So will most probably go with the grey primer.
As Im also adding the decals used from MoffEaton's ANH set the black will kill those also.
Looks like its the primer as the base coat.
