NCC 1000, USS Bonaventure, a 1/1000 kit WIP

Here's one I stumbled on while looking for something else the other day! I decided I should go ahead and get back to it since it was nearing completion.
It's an ST project inspired by a ship only seen at that time in a Ships of the Line Calendar.

The nacelles each hold electronics for a ten LED "chaser" circuit to be seen behind the Bussard domes. The ship also has blinking nav-lights and a lit bridge, rear "hangar" beacon and sensor dome. The stand carries the power while the base hides a microswitch, allowing the craft to be removable.

While this one started out as a "design study" it then evolved into a challenge of sorts, to add about as much lighting as I could? I actually had it all buttoned up one time then split it back apart since the lighting was an afterthought. Jase, it's straightforward stuff with 555 and 4017 chips for which there are a few different online tutorials existing. I merely looked them up and ripped them off as my own- um, I mean, followed the instructions. Except in the case of some rather "specific" circumstances you can easily light almost any scfi project armed with readily available supplies (at nominal cost) and a lil time on the net. I've yet to purchase a lighting kit though I mean no insult to the makers of such items and they certainly offer a viable alternative.

I thought I had posted the first Trek ships already.. Er Maybe I didn't. Well, I can post them but I think most have already seen my Voyager and NX-01.. I haven't posted the Ent E scratch I have, so I don't think everyone has seen that one.. and Im working on another scratch thats almost done.. would explain why I haven't done much actualy kit building in the last few months though..

Come to think of it I do have a splitting headache right now and didn't get much sleep last night? And I see even less sleep ahead! But hey, there's plenty of time to sleep in that ole pine box eventually.

In case you aren't familiar, I present a lil project to duplicate NCC 1000, Bonaventure!

With the electronics squared away it's moving through prep for paint.

That's a different looking design,what goes in the big gaping hole in the front and what's the plan with the paint,does this one have some sorta aztecing pattern?
If so,that'll be some fun for ya!

As in real life- when a guy sees a big gaping hole he's just gotta plug it! Stay tuned for that and more details. But yes, the concept artwork did have an Aztec pattern to it.

Good news for me is that I won't have to struggle at all with it- since, this is getting kitted and the Aztec decals will be included. Rest assured the gentleman doing the kitting/decals ain't no slack and I can predict confidently it will all be topnotch on his end of things!

Oh a kit you say,congrat's on that,ST is not my scene but i believe there are one or two out there that follow it with some passion.
I'm sure it'll go very well and you get the decals for your build ta boot!

Yup Wombie. You're right about using your better judgement to plug a hole. I figure I can always be pulled out by my webbed feet if I've misjudged? And thanks for the well wishes mate!

Continuing with some refinements I cut the lil 'indentions' that flank the nose up front. Oddly, there are more than one version of the picture which made it into the Hard Cover SOTL calendar compilation. One has these indentations while another does not, showing flat faced panels? I chose the one published in the book for some added visual interest.



The Polar Lights Enterprise TOS has several bridge domes to choose from but the Bonaventure has what I'll call the 'Reliant or refit' style extended bridge with dome. Started out by laminating some styrene together to get a big enough block to carve the overall shape from. Also turned down the smooth top bridge dome kit piece to fit within it.

And moving towards turning on the lights here are the some of the components getting stuffed into the 1/1000 ship. There are 10 LED chasers that go into each nacelle and then the timer for the blinking navlights as well as the color shifting LED up behind the deflector. The LEDs for navlights, hangar bay dome light, bridge and sensor domes are already buried within the model.

But Phil, unlike some, even if I retired a ComTech from AT&T Network Training and Support I don't brag to be a trained electrical guru? I just plod along like the rest of us. Hell, I never even would have thought to use high tech twist caps on an electrical project? I'm obviously behind the curve.

The navlights have yet to receive their new "dome caps" (with a tinted bottom) and are now just the embedded LEDs.

It just makes all seem so worth it when I see the outcome. Just wish I could get my first completed model with lighting finished. I know Im really just new to this & have much to learn just seems like Ive been plugging away & nothing to show yet. Just wanna be able to turn the lights off & be in space...

It's the only way to show such effect's when it's like the one's you've got there.I'd say it look's good,it's all seem's to be working and there's no smoke coming outa of it.
I'd say your podding along there is a great addition to this build!

A living model almost?

I expect we can work it out when you're ready. Just determine what supply voltage you want up front and then what lighting features you need for the model and we'll sort it.

The ship was shipped (LOL) this morning and only if it survives the casting process will I resume with it. If not, I'll modify the resulting resin version to accept the electronics and then actually get to paint her up!
