I hope you are right there mate,i always have doubts about my building but, i've got me fingers crossed here that you are correct.

Excellent stuff there Jase,they are looking good mate and i know first hand that they will really pop once the primer hit's em.
The outer walls are fun,especially the two that have all the chips on em.You'll enjoy it for sure.Just don't get too anal about having em spot on or anything,just follow the pattern as you see it and go with that dude.

I can help with the 250/3 and King Tiger.They are both kit's i haven't got to touching here yet.If you wan't me to cut the part's from the trees and send LMK?
The Lindberg LSD part's you would have there already.

Thanks me Aussie comrades. Its getting exciting again with these nearly wrapped up. I definately need the Bandai King Tiger radiator & the Nitto Hanomag parts. I have the Yamato, LSD & 155mm Howiter on the way. I can slowly feel the weight coming off the shoulders on this section & definaely look forward to doing the slopes top & bottom. Will probably have the new engine plate cut for all these parts to go on & will start to cut the butt plug as they say. Any one know what mm styrene or whatever to cut that in?

I can tell you the plate that CR built theres on looks to be 1mm mate.The thicker section on the bottom half is worked out by the step in those little rail gun part's.

Do you need an unbroken engine plate for that, Jase? I saw the parting lines in it from where it broke when it was dropped. I know you reglued this, but the top right corner is still a little uneven surface-wise. Unless you already took care of that.

When it comes to the crunch im a really bad perfectionist. I just can't stand things that aren't right & have a stupid knack of always pickin detail out unfortunately. his is what kept me from finishing my visual arts degrees.... So In persuite of perfection for my 'Butt Plug' as Im calling it, I have taken a picture of the G's Back plate & adjusted it to actual size to use as a template. It took a couple of goes but nailed it in the end. the kit parts sit perfectly & Im very happy that i will have something near perfect. Gotta love Photo Shop for this sort of cheating

[/b]Thanks Ken & I was a little impressed myself. Ive attached my template picture for the others to use . Just print as is & will be the right size.
So Ive set about cutting my styrene. I used 1.5mm. Once I put the pieces on I now believe from the 2 Leopold parts that sit from the bottom & join the top, that the top is at least 3mm. This is because with the 1.5mm piece sitting on top leaves about 1.5mm gap for those 2 parts to sit flush as they should. So I will make the top bottom piece out of 3mm styrene. I need one more Leopold and one more Karl to finish with the engine plate & Butt Plug sections. I only need 2 pieces from the Leopold & 1 part from the Karl So thats 7 Leopolds & 3 Karls for the engine plate & butt plug sections all up. For now. Doesn't look too bad. Just need the Yamato & Tiger parts & will look ok with some primer on

No worries Cris & thansk. Well nearly the last of my Roco's, sorry Herpa's just arrived. I actually have too many now... So these are the new Herpa reissues of the old Roco's. These as stated previously are not rare any more unless you want them in an old Roco box. The only one not available 'yet' is the 211 BW HS-30 w 20mm Cannon. Don't dispare as this will be put back into production quite soon. It pays to do your home work & Ive been in contact with Roco & Herpa for my information. hope that brings some relief to some. I paid about $6.00Au each for these. Just waiting for some more 215's & we're done

Ok too many updates but Phils package arrived also & promised to get these in rubber straight away. So in rubber they are Its pretty kool here at the moment & Im thinking castings not really going to work on the small parts but IO'll give it a go at any cost.

Here Ive cut the bottom piece from 3mm styrene. You can see with the Leopold parts that they now sit flush perfectly. Now put on for the mock up again & it feels right. I'd love to know what this piece looks like from behind. Im unsure how the side panels attache to the bottom piece? Is it just glued to the top piece & level with the bottom piece?

On a bit of a roll so thought Id just keep chippin away at it. One port down 3 more to go. Like Phil said Im not getting too anal about ferfection in this area. The outsides are a different story though.

Man,you've been posting a hell of a lot today.OK,starter,thats great news on the ROCO'sEven at $6Au each,it's a little expensive for a complete set,but least that option is going to be there for the ones that want to go that way.It's hgreat to see em available again.Any news when that 211 is going into production?

Good to see the parts showed up,not the quickest our mail but theres worse than ours i'm sure.Hope the moulding is going OK,even if the casting needs to wait till it warms up a little.

The butt plug is looking good,just one thing though.All the parts and the 3mm piece sit on the 1.5mm plate.The plate is the actuall shape of the butt plug with everything layed on top.Sorry,you'll need to cut another one dude,I sent you a mail tonight.

Glad you like that Mike. Hope it helps. Phil I checked it out & think its like that from how its moulded with the panels on the side. Thought it had some circular something joined to the back?.... I actually don't think its cut to that shap. Just easier to mould. Just don't know Well one more piece done. Its not accurate at all. Based on what I was lookin at compared to what I could fit etc etc. Just went for the look so to speak. I'll look at it for a day or so. Might change it. We'll see.

Looking good to me,you might wanna hold off gluieng the ammo boxes on till you've got the ports joined to the backplate.Just that step you need to think about because of the backplate thickness.

As for the butt plug,i actually think that was probably correct?It makes sense that they would have made a shape and then detailed that shape,hence why they cut parts to fit something.I doubt they would have had those angled rail gun plates just glued to the block on there sides,especially as this is a piece that was going to be handled at times.Anyway,which ever you do,it only needs to look right really mate.

That will work & give better support to those side pieces as they do just attache to the sides but are glued to the underside of the 3mm top plate/ I like it. Its my actual first scratch built piece using kit parts. Seemed to have got a bit done yesterday in the shop which is awsome &strange. I had no tv or music on & just worked all day. I really just enjoyed the quiet sound of cars excelerating up the hill I live on & the the build. The stress is dissipating & the joy returning. I had like you said the most fun just glueing those stupid chips & plating on. their not 'accuarate' or 'perfect' but they look good & thats the main thing. Can't wait to smash the last 2 ports out tonight. Im pumped for it. didn't get any sleep thinking about how Im going to do them....

The chipping is fun,i'm not sure i'll say that by th etime the last chips go on the build but it was fun none the less in the ports.This build has so much too it,it's more like builds with in a build this one.The ports and backplate are one of many,the butt plug you're playing around with is another one.Congrats on that too,you're first scratch built piece so ta speak.Good stuff mate,now back to it!

The roll ended... Got up this morning to pull the second layer off the first & make sure the mould was good. it didn't seperate. I then remembered i forgot to spray the mold release after i washed the modelers clay off. Was not impressed. sorry Phil need another day or 2. The only good thing is I have my 1/4 ABS T Strip for the Trench & 1/32 Styrene Angle Strip to finish the Ports.

Howdy all. So some not so bad news on the mould. I went straight at it after work to retrieve Phils parts & start again. When I looked at it I noticed a gap in the seam so I ripped at it, carefully, & it started to come apart. Anyway Ive managed to rip it in half so alls not lost. Im pretty confident I can use this & at least get what I need I'll do a pull soon but its cold so Im not holding my breath for complete success. especially the small bomb site. Parts are safe Phil. You guys should see what a wild Wombat can do to a bloke when their piised off. A guy recently got savaged by one & it had to be killed with an axe....

Hey Jase,sometimes shit just happens dude,if this is one of em thats life.I hope it is usable though more because of the wasted time and material you've spent there on it?If not then least you know what you missed and again,it's all part of the learning experience you are going through with it all.No one is an expert overnight mate.Every time you mould and cast will help you get betta at perfecting it all.No rushing dude thats the worst thing ya can do!
I'm glad you've got you're plastruct there now,and you can get back to finishing them ports up finally.It's a stage i know ya want to get completed the same as i did here.Once done there are more fun things on the horizon with the detailing side of these engine boxes.Good stuff on the trench Tee also,thats the first thing that needs to go in there.
So,it wont be long and you'll be at the engine box detailing,a few greeblies really brings it to life.

Thanks mate ypu are seriously a champion & I love your work. I did a cast in the mould. Its sat for nearly 3 hrs & is still soft. This id due to temperature. Its pretty cool here. The main thing is the mould worked. All the pieces are cast perfectly, just soft. Im going to make a new mould & seperate for the Tiger & B52 parts. Hope you don't mind Phil. I know whats goin on on now & what to do.

Ive pulled the pieces & theyre still tacky so Ive put them in the oven to heat up & cure. i hope that works. Today I checked my resin & Part A has crystalised a little in the bucket. this when shaked has left/put little bits of crystal in my pours when last pored. I either have to strain & seperate the Part A into a new bucket or make sure I don't shake before useing.... The parts are good & their very fine & delicate. I know what Im doing when Ive got my head on the job. I just forget some steps when not doing it repetabley...

Right so a little heat cured the resin. Good to know, just need to keep the heat down low..... Anyway I broke the small piece from the B52 by being clumsy & maybe just a little turpsed after familly dinner so that looks small. But all is ok as the parts work & I only need 8 to get myself out of trouble. Just want to be able to help the other crew out aswell. 8 runs will give me 8 sets of Tiger parts for the Trench so thats a little more than the crew thats building here so I think we're in the green. Never the less im doing a fresh set of moulds thanks to our hairy friend Phil. Big hugs Phil!

My Fujimi 1:48 f-15 eagle arrived yesterday ,are you and phil set for the parts from this kit .The most prominent ones I believe are the drop tanks for the bottom section of the sides of the trenches ,and the two pieces that are shaped like an upside down house located on the bottom of the nose cap ? If you boys are in need of those pieces ,I can ship you the parts for casting .

Hey they look good Jase,i'm glad the mould ended up working for you there but if you feel you need to do another,by all means mate,go right ahead.Now i don't know FA about the resin and castings but i have heard that the bottles do need to be shaked up before mixing.There can be problems if this is not done.For my CM i had some castings sent to me from someone and later down the track i got a mail from him saying some that he had done and let sit on some kits parts had apparently eatin into the kit parts.He was told this was probably due to not shaking his bottles up before pouring it into the cup for mixing.I have no idea what would be causing the crystal problem,hopefully someone will let you know.

Oh just one other thing and i think all of us know it anyway,it's the B-29 and the Panther G them part's are from.


Hey Ken,thanks for the offer there mate and also the reminder of which tanks they are on the engine stage sides.I was at Mikes last night and we were talking of all things,Battlestar's,can ya believe it? LOL
Anyway,those tanks came up,and i knew i had em and had already sent em to Jase,i for some reason was thinking they were the starfighter ones,but really i'm still just not up on much of it still.Anyway,Jase does have them parts there already to mould up,but thanks again for the offer dude!

Resin is a funny thing Jase. I've also had castings sent to me which after a long time were eating into real kit parts they were mixed up with. Sometimes one part of the resin just dries up around the cap of the bottle and mixes up with the liquid. That can cause little crystals in the mix. I even have really old castings that never fully cured and have soft spots in them. Do you mix by weight instead of volume? I'd be giving your resin stores a shake at least a couple of times a month to keep it from settling. Maybe the mixture is just too cold in storage to cure properly. You could try warming up the two parts before casting? Decant into smaller bottle and put them in a bucket of warm water for a while before mixing maybe?

Oh yeah, Phil gave me a bag of Roco blades that you had done for him. Thanks man, they look really good. My originals are rough as guts. Just in time for my rework in that area. Muchly appreciated.

Mike no problemo on the parts. Am happy to help. I actually have quite a few spare parts since I picked up original kits. Its simply too cold for resin to cure at the moment here which sucks. My PartA resin does have crystalisation on the empty part of the bucket so when I shake it up it collects the crystals which then get mixed in the pot.... I also gave the resin a ggo stir instead of a shake because of that & it went all milky cloudy??? The bottom of the pot was thick & gooey??? I did a poor with the milky mix & it worked. Just haven't seen it like that before??? I think I'll get some big buckets from work & some paint strainers & strain the mix into fresh buckets. That will remeve any crystals & should work ok.
On the build front not much this week. Am waiting for my parts to come. I lost my 155Howitzer as someone sniped it just before the end of the bidding... Gotta find another one. Also just need the Nitto & the King Tiger parts for the Butt Plate. Everything else is on its way. Didn't get my Engine Plate cut etc due to deleting some bills before school holidays start. Im off for nearly 3 weeks as of Sunday.

Um we're back in business after I got on the phone to do some yelling.. They did not do what was originally requested of them on 06/26. We were told to wait 7 -10 business days... they restored the files, but it was the database we needed restored. I told them to do the DB restore today and not make us wait another 6 - 10 days. So, I told them today, you have explicit permissions to over write the existing DB with the restored DB.. So, they did it while I was on the phone with them .. and we verified that everything was back.

Ok Ive gota bit done. Had some successes some plain out f*&^%k ups but the Ports are primarilly finished other than theh heller turrets which I need to get & the 0.8mm Angle that I won't put on until I get the new Back Plate cut as its very thin & fragile.
got the T-8 Tstrip which has gone in & looks pretty good. Can now progress to the Trench detail of Tracks & Sheridans. Have got the primer on & in all honesty see some areas Im not 100% happy with on the ports & all over but thats what primers for so will attend to those & fix them up. Plenty of pics so I'll let them do the talking. One thing that was a big negative was me sticking the plows on the wrong way. Thanks to Phil watching my back we spotted the problem. Unfortunately removing the plows to correct didn't go so well & lost 4 of them with damages. Lucky I had some back up 254's I was going to sell...... Primers on & we're moving forward none the less. All feedback welcome so i can fix anything thats not right.

One thing we did determine tonight was that at the time of filming, the two arms on the bottom angle of the backplate were not Roco parts, but 88mm kit parts, the same on both sides. Every time I look at the Galactica I see something new...

Jase,oh man,you didn't say it was looking that good on the phone earlier.Mate,looks real good,you should be pretty damn happy with what your achieving up there also!Wow,the primer really does the trick aye,told ya it would,you worry about nothing like someone else i know.You've made some real good progress in the down time and the way you are going you are gonna be past where i am at with mine.I just wish you had got those engine part's moulded up before i needed em back.Still,if you can find those kit's pretty soon that you still need then that won't be much of a delay in your building time.I'll be hunting for you also on some of those kit's you still need for this section dude!

Thanks everyone. The encourageing words of the team really push to move forward. Just when you think youve got a section done something pops up & its back to snappin bits off again to rework it. Im definately going to be more careful when going for the glue. The primer does bring her to life but also brings out the things that need attention. I guess thats the whole idea around 'Primer' so got a little tidy up to do on a few spots but shouldn't be a problem. I actually had more pics but it took long enough just to load these ones! Can't wait for that 'Multi Picture Loader' thats supposed to be introduced sometime soon. Its only a rough coate on the primer so might smooth & fill some of my areas oc concern & give it a nice good coate. That should present things a bit better.

Well it sure looks like ya building a Battlestar there mate,a damn fine looking one also at that!
Throwing the greeblies on is a lot of fun i've been finding here,and from what i can see it's looking bloody good there what you have done also.Building the ports is one thing but greebling this sucker up really transforms the rear end of it into a Battlestar.I like what i'm seeing mate,you should be very proud of your progress up there.It can't be easy getting the spare time with the family an all,but the kids do need there dad at times afterall.Just do what ya can when ya can and in the end you'll have a magnificent piece to display proudly.Something not many on the face of this earth will ever have.

That build is lookin downright badass now ,Jase .What a difference the last couple of days build time have made on the engine box !!!! I really like what I'm seeing here mate . I can relate with juggling family time ,work time ,and build time .I have 5 kids myself ,and getting other peoples builds , and my own projects some build time can be tricky .It is very hard to find an equal balance especially with unexpected events such as the passing of a family member ,which I have just recently had to deal with .But hey even if you can manage 20 minutes a day ,or every couple of days will eventually make quite a dent in your build progress . Just make sure you get your rest man.Your health is equally important too ,and you can't make any build progress if you are ill !!!! Good stuff there Jase ............ Cheers

Ok so as the clothes drier is inthe work shop i turned it on for a while to heat the place up which it did. I gave doing a cast a go worked quite well. Should have washed the mould from Mould release but gave the parts a wash & scrub & they didn't crumble. the mould release came off & gave em a dose of primer. Their still not 100% but they worked. Ive got the bomb sites done for one side & the King Tiger parts for the Trench so thats pretty good. Can't wait for it to warm up so I can go into parts production.....
