Doug I believe thats broken off another part that looks like the steps off the Sea Lab III kit. The same part used as the baffles on the Star Destroyer Devastator. I'll go & check that later. I might have actually found a piece for the boys on their Shuttle Parts Map 
So Ive mad a relatively good start. This is quite good fun & somewhat stressfully relaxing 
Almost like doing a 3 dimensional jigsaw puzzle 
So getting sorted & the back decks almost found & in place. These parts will go into their own container. Its so good to have benches stuff can just be left out on & know no kids , wives or dogs are going to disturb the order of my kaos
