I thought lighting this model would be simple, but it was a surprisingly difficult task. I spent a couple months figuring all this out. I'm not kidding you when I say I am writing an entire book on the process. (Seriously, it should be out in a couple months.)
If you don't mind flicker, it is not that difficult to add dimming. But, I don't recommend it for model projects. I find the flicker can be noticeable at times -- and I find it annoying. Also, if you try to film your model on video it becomes very obvious and even more annoying.
I hope to have some printed circuit boards made that will help make the process of linear dimming much easier. (Building the boards I designed from scratch was a PITA.)
